This Braggin rights game is generally a dogfight more than not. I don't expect anything different in this one. Mizzou did play Kansas tough for most of the game on a neutral floor. If the Illini allow the Tigers to get rolling it could be a long night. If TJS, Domask can score as usual and Guerrier and Hawkins provide some balance to the attack the Illini will be a tough out. Illini 76- Mizzou 73

Little brother, you say?

I would instead argue that the Illini own the tiggers, (somewhat similar to Kofi owning Hunter Dickerson).

The Illini have won:

* 33 of 53, overall (62%)

* 25 of the last 40 (62%)

* 15 of the last 23 (65%)

Plus, we've had winning streaks in the rivalry of 9 in a row, 8 in a row ----- and then 5 in a row most recently.

Actually, what happened last year isn't all that relevant. Aiden Shaw is their only starter who was on the team last year and he played four minutes against us and had no stats.
Really ??

here's the box score from last year..........................

Missouri Tigers

Missouri Tigers

clearly shows Honor as a starter last year and East , Carter and Shaw as bench players , but all 4 played last year......
Honor played 30 mins
East played 23 mins
Carter played 9 mins
Shaw played 4 mins

Ugh, you are correct. I was looking at the prior year where Honor was at Clemson, East at John A. Logan, and Carter at Northern Iowa.

I say yes, because half the team will be remembering last year's game.
OTOH they have several players who could go off with 3 pointers and make things tough for us.
But I think our defense will cause them a lot of problems at all five positions.
This seems to be Mizzou's plan for success....one we have seen work out well for them in the past 5 years. We have seen the Illini play defense at a really high and disruptive level at times this year, but who knows if the Mizzou frenzy will negate that. In addition, they outwork the Illini to the point our guys have looked slow and uninterested.

And we all pray that changes this year. We are all therefore insane...but that is not news. What I want to see is high focus and effort...and an uptick in competence. Love the recent FT shooting.

If we want to win this game we need to run Miznoz off the line… East is shooting 60% from 3 this season, that’s not a typo. Honor is shooting 45% & Bates is shooting 52%….

That is insane. Luckily (maybe?) East and Bates only shoot 2 or 3 a game. So that’s 2-3 made threes between them. (Statistically)

Honor shoots 6 so we have to limit him for sure.

We play good half court D and have run guys off the 3 point line so far this year, my fear is transition 3s.

If they start to get hot, look out, they are gonna be near unbeatable. Especially if we try to match them 3 for 3.

Let’s hope we can limit their transition looks and get their guards in foul trouble.

They are going to feel emboldened after what Tennessee's press did to us. We need to consistently beat their press and make them pay with easy baskets. I'd like to see us use our overall size to pass over the top of Miznoz pressers with much less dribbling.

@Indy Illini Fan @LvilleILL @illini0440 Maybe i missed it somewhere recently but is there something wrong with Amani? Seemed to my laboring when running through the layup lines last night. I have not seen anything mentioned if he has a problem.

Nothing that I’ve been made aware of … But the staff mainly just talks to me about the guys that are a part of the game plan … 🤷🏻‍♂️

Amani won’t see much tick this year …

They just shot 50% from three and lost to a god awful Seton Hall team. Not a gimme whatsoever though, we need to come out with energy from the jump
True, but that Seton Hall team shot 44% from behind the arc and 59% overall.

Basically they shot REALLY well and it was juuuust enough to beat Miznoz. (Miznoz cut a 19 pt lead at 6 minutes left down to 4 with 10 seconds left)

All I’m saying is if we can’t keep pace with 3s (like SH did) we better limit their open shots. If we don’t, and shoot our normal % from behind the arc, we could be in for a long night. Miznoz can score in spirts it seems.

Let’s just stomp em from the get-go and drive them into the floor. Maybe put up triple digits on em?? 😁

Miznoz sat zone most of the game. Lot of Seton Hall's looks had a ton of space. Guessing their plan will differ for Illini...if not they should be in for a long night.

Agreed on the triple digits!!

That’s unfortunate. Brad was talking about how consistent and good he has been whenever he has spoke of him… what’s the issue? Personally I’d rather see him than Dain most of the time …

Thought it seemed like the NET overrated the B12 teams and underrated B1G teams compared to Kenpom. Decided to check it out. Comparing top 25 and top 75 in each for Q1 wins.

Kenpom B1G:
Top 25 - 4 teams
Top 75 - 10
NET B1G:
Top 25 - 3
Top 75 - 8
Kenpom B12:
Top 25 - 6
Top 75 - 11
NET B12:
Top 25 - 6
Top 75 - 11

Turns out the NET is just low on the B1G compared to Kenpom. Basically every B1G team has a worse NET ranking vs Kenpom.

Isn’t the way to beat a zone to shoot over it? (And make them obviously)

If so, lots of Luke and TSJ finding open spots please.
