Good morning Dr. Chandra........I can't wait for the Illini game tonight........

hal02.jpg

Good morning to you Hal...................Yes , I am more than excited to see the beloved in action tonight........

hal01.jpg

My question is how do we defend the Sasquatch - type Edey down low ??

hal02.jpg

Well Hal , I believe we do it by committee and double and triple team him whenever he receives the ball to confuse his feeble brain........He has shown to get excited when human beings surrounded his space.........What do you think Hal ??

hal01.jpg

Your scheme does have merit , but my thoughts are to judo chop him till his limbs are a bloody pulp , just like they always did to
Kofi time and time again.........You do know he is from Canada and they talk funny and are all " aboot " having a low self esteem complex.........

hal02.jpg

Yes Hal , I agree with you " aboot " ( hahaha ) their anxieties .......Maybe Cohawk and The Doctor Domask can trash talk with a lot of "eh's " and talk " aboot " Terrance & Philip farting tendencies..........

hal01.jpg

Dr. Chandra , that's a good ploy to get Sasquatch off his game....Wonder if BU has given any thought to that course of action ?

hal02.jpg

Well Hal , I have it on good authority from a couple of Loyalty insiders that the Illini's meal since Wednesday has included a lot of Bush beans and broccoli.....that should do the trick , don't you think ?

hal01.jpg

yes I do and I'm so glad we are here in space to not get methane and sulfur overdoses.........I sincerely believe that the Illini will be victorious tonight and now moreso with the in depth scouting and game plan reports........

hal02.jpg

So do I Hal..........So do I...................................

hal03.jpg

How goes it with the Illini fanatic pile of bytes and memory banks........

I gave him a plan that the Illini fart and belch their way to victory tonight and he bought it......he really really did......

HAHAHAHA'S by everyone...................

hal01.jpg

Dr. Chandra , I guess you forgot I am an expert at reading lips .................Lower life supports levels now to minimal settings......
Good night guys .....everything is fine......................it really really is....................

Go Illini! Please refs no homecookie for Pu. Looking forward to this game. Do they put Renn on Domask if we start the booty ball.

Minor correction: In 1978-79, after winning the Kentucky Invitational at Rupp in December and opening conference play with two road wins, Illinois was 14-0 and primed to take on #1 MSU. Eddie Johnson's corner jumper at the buzzer (as I remember it watching from the C section behind the basket) moved the Illini to 15-0. Alas, two days later Illinois lost to Ohio State in OT to forfeit their shot at the #1 ranking. As you say, the Illini collapsed after that, winning just 4 of the final 15 games to finish unranked.
You are correct, sir. My freshman year.

Think this game goes to OT. We have the ball tied last possession & Coleman finds a cutting Ty to the basket and he lays it in with a few seconds on the clock. That was my dream last night. Then Jeff Goodman talks about how we won’t perform that well again all season and we continue to make him look like a fool. Go Illini.

FWIW, there are a fair number of tickets available for tonight on both Seat Geek and StubHub. Based on the prices it's either a hot ticket or PU fans overestimate their ticket values (like every other fan base in the country I think).

If I didn't have to work until 5 I'd probably go over, haven't been in Mackey since 1988.

I will be content if we keep it close and elated if we win. They may lose their this year but somehow I don't feel we are the one that is going to do it.

I think the Illini continue the multipass offense and wear down the purdont's legs and we pull away in the last 7-8 minutes and ..........

Illini 80

I will be content if they just play well. Matt Painter is one of the most underrated coaches in the country imo. Hard to dislike the guy but would still be a joy to beat him at their place.
He is a super nice guy. I was his TA for Statistics while I was doing my MS at Purdue back in 1986. He was also a hell of a good player.

I’m excited for this game and my mind has been running wild with what I think both sides might do. Yes, I have problems, and also just drank some real strong coffee.

If I’m Purdue I’m 100% putting Edey on Ty again. If I’m Illinois I have Ty set screens again.

Unless BU has specifically told an (unbeknownst to us) much better shooting Ty not to let it fly until this game to catch Purdue off guard (very unlikely, but coaches have been known to hide things, and we haven’t really needed it if he can), Edey can play his drop coverage and help on all drives.

This opens up a couple things for Ty.

1. Short rolls to the nail area where he can facilitate in the middle of the floor. We have good cutters and shooters he can find from there.

2. Ball screen, rescreens. After his Ball screen Ty goes and cleans up somebody else on an off ball screen that Edey can’t get out to. A 3 man game of Ty, Coleman, Domask would be very intriguing.

What concerns me is that Edey on Ty could take away one of his biggest matchup advantages, which is offensive rebounding from the pg position.

These ideas would be some real game specific wrinkles that we haven’t really shown. We usually just push quickly in transition, then run the most basic 5 out flow ever, move the ball, move bodies, and hoop. Like a well developed open gym offense when you got 4 teammates and you that just know how to play. We hardly run any plays that aren’t iso, and it’s beautiful.

The other thing Painter really likes to do is 1v1 the pg up the floor. Obviously if Edey is guarding Ty, he’s not doing that. Whoever Edey is guarding might be our PG, like we did against Kansas when we stayed away from whoever their good guard was checking defensively.

Ditch work and I'll buy you a beer.

Ty will get at least one "Man's rebound" against Edey tonight. Might not be on the offensive end, though.

This is a chance to show everyone that Underwood has put together a great team…not just one great player and some other guys.
He’s already proved that in my mind. The togetherness and culture of this team. He keeps saying they’re “connected” and it shows.

Now we will see what that looks like in a HOSTILE environment on the road, with backs up against the wall. I think these boys have what it takes.

Haha. Trust me, I'll pulling for us. Perhaps my prediction was tooooo dark as I took off my orange tinted glasses. We just won't win them all. Now, if we get Smith in foul trouble, keep them off the foul line, and take care of the ball, we just may shock the world! (But we won't be shocked!) 😉

Had to look up some stats since I couldn't remember how last year's game at Mackey went - our only meeting with Purdue, and it was the regular season finale.

- We only lost by 5, but started out in an 11-0 hole and were down 10+ through most of the game before tying it up with a minute or so to play. Looks like this was another of our patented 2022-23 slow start -> insane comeback games.
- We held Edey to 6-of-13 shooting from the field and only 3 or 4 trips to the charity stripe, which would be huge to replicate.
- Total fouls were 23 (us) to 17. So, a moderate homering.
- Both teams had heavy success on the offensive glass, grabbing almost 40% of their misses.
- Mayer was 1 for 10 (!) from beyond the arc.
- It was a fairly slow-paced game with only 65 possessions.
- We had 15 turnovers, which is pretty high in a 65 possession game (23%)
