I have had that exact foul happen to me and it is super dangerous so honestly must agree with the refs on that one. Hummel was wrong saying it was just a box out. It was clearly undercutting to me
You are correct. It was a legal box out to begin with when both players were on the floor but when QG went up for the rebound Jones kept backing underneath him creating the foul/undercut and dangerous situation. The refs got that one right.

I forget who on Illinois got called for blocking out Edey when the Illinois player just tried to put his butt to Edey. Edey reaches over and snags the rebound over our guy. Good play by Edey. Our guy applied too much backwards contact which wasn’t even 1/4 what Jones did to our guy who was very very precariously in the air. The two fouls were night and day different. One was minor and one was egregious. I remember being upset that Edey gets to reach over our guy like that. Turnabout is fair play here.

Considering that was some of the worst, most scared basketball from us for 3/4ths of that game and we cover? I’m leaving feeling positive. Didn’t expect that 30 min ago.
I do agree with this, but will we be typing this, let's say, in the round of 32 or Sweet Sixteen in the tournament? Is there a guarantee that they won't do this again in important games? Elite programs (who will lose games at times) probably won't being losing those games by being scared for 3/4ths of a game. We all want IU to be an elite program, well let's start by not playing scared for 3/4ths of the game. And to be honest, I think they will learn from this game--I really do.

Ugh, you are going to me make go clip this to show how wrong it is.

Jones was blocking out.

QG, giving maximum effort, jumped towards the ball which was towards Jones and to the left of each player. As in, he jumped over, but not all the way, Jones.

Jones was simply still in block out position. He stumbled back when QG was no longer there for him to lean into.

Crazy call in favor of the Illini.

Also, I think Quincy is okay. He made the free-throws gifted to him. Also the replay didn't look like he got a lot of weight on the wrist. His body did land on his arm, so he might be a little banged up.
If you look at it again, notice that Jones went down lower and backs up as Quincy jumps. He knows Quincy is trying to rebound so he went lower and undercut him. These are great athletes with tons of experience. He could feel exactly what was happening. If he wanted to make a play, then go after the rebound. He didn't want to make a play. He wanted to take Quincy out of the play. I wouldn't call it an "Intentional foul" exactly, but I would call it a flagrant foul.

I mean, play better in those first five minutes and things look different. Brad's presser tells you the gameplan was to contain Edey and take your chances with the others. Unfortunately Edey is a cheat code as far as rebounding is concerned. And they burned us from outside.

One great thing painter did was have a person pressure Domask brought the ball up to court. At the end of the game he was spent.
That's why I wish TY had an outside shot and was more efficient at finishing around the rim. If he does that, then he can be Domask the next two years.

He should have. I like Coleman, a lot, and think many fans under-appreciate what brings to our team. BUT, he's beginning to become a bit of a cry baby, even to me, a big supporter of his. It's to the point to where I think he's hurting his own case with the officials.
It's not a good look but we all know Coleman is who he is. At least he appears to be staying away from some of the key words and phrases that would bring an automatic technical. How often have we seen players walk by a ref without being demonstrative or seemingly saying much of anything and get teed up.

He had it backwards. You can't contain Edey unless fouls are called on him. If they would have played ball denial on him and focused on everyone else, they win easily.

Advanced stats look at opponent adjusted efficiency, actual scoring margin vs predicted scoring margin, etc. The polls largely look at wins and losses. We likely won’t drop much since we played tough @ #1 Purdue, but depending on how the rest of the games play out over the weekend, we likely drop 2-3 spots.

Let‘s aim get back in and have another top 10 matchup in a few months.

Purdue still uses the slap-grab Gene Keady "they can't call 'em all" defense they have always played. Still think they crash and burn early in the tourney. Edey will get frustrated when he doesn't get the star treatment that he is use to and they will collapse. That loss last year to FDU will go down as the biggest upset in tournament history. JMHO

Let's make it a top 5 matchup with a B1G title on the line.

The more I think about this game the more frustrated I am about how utterly winnable this was without out giving up all those offensive rebounds in the first half. The game script went absolutely best case scenario if we bring those down, especially while Edey was sitting! That spotted them so many second chance points when the situation was in our favor. The one that got away, but also may only be a small blip by season end.

I went and watched again. My phone is too smart so it won't let me screen grab from YT TV.

It reminds me of why I struggle to hear eyewitness reports and be able to trust them. I still see it exactly as I stated.

Quincy DID NOT jump straight up. He jumped towards and to the left. Selfless effort, but not Jones fault. All of a sudden Q was just jumping over him, and Jones is already smaller and then squatting down to block out.
