Maryland 76, Illinois 67 Postgame

A game like this was bound to happen eventually. This game was very uncharacteristic. It stings, but the boys need to get some rest and take care of business against Michigan. Still a favorable schedule over the next few weeks.

I don’t have a stat sheet but it seemed Domask had a lot of decent shots that fell off the rim. Not sure why. Fatigue? Getting bodied by the defense? Anticipating getting bodied? Hard to tell on tv. If he had had 2 or 3 of those fall in instead of fall off the rim this might have played out differently IMO.

I wonder if the lack of judge’s ruling took the wind out of their sails.

Perhaps they were at the very least expecting a decision and this looming over their heads has sucked the energy off from this team.

Everyone seemed off and this seems like the only logical explanation besides the fact that Maryland just played with desperation and we had zero energy

Not really surprised by this. Maryland has had our number and have looked better lately.

These types of games are going to happen in conference without Shannon. Probably more of a 4-6 seed without Shannon vs a 1-2. Still a good team and capable of doing some damage but don't have the same ceiling and ability to make up for miscues. Really miss his on-ball defense.

What's the Tim Anderson beef with Julian Reese? Do love Harmon immediately coming and calling Reese a !!!!! though.

Shots.....Didn't.....Fall.........
Because too many 'shots' were more like throws, Pru. Anything in transition was running and launching and clanging off the rim.

Add to that the terrible threes (after the opening 5 minutes) and 6 for 16 on layups (pre-garbage time) and the shooting was off the charts bad.

I don’t care what anyone else says. Lid on the bucket today. Dainja had 7pts in very limited minutes. Dainja should have been playing more. It’s not like our interior defense was good with him out!!
At the risk of being unfashionably objective, Dain is a solid low post player with great feet, but if you watch any defensive set that he’s involved in, he’s just lost.

Can’t wait for all the overreactions 😂

8 out of the top 10 teams lost this week..
I don’t think many of those lost a game at home against a sub 70 Kenpom team.

I’m not saying the team is doomed but this was a bad loss, plain and simple. One you couldn’t have. Especially if you want to sniff a B1G title. Place us firmly in 3-4th in that conversation.

It was already hinted at midway through the game thread by an insider. And frankly, based on how they were playing, I can buy that certain players were hungover today. We played really abnormal today
To me that's on the captains of the team. Party all you want but not before early afternoon Sunday game. Especially after we did this last year.

I know this is minor but why, why WHY did our stinker have to be against Maryland. They are inside Brads head. We suck against Maryland.

Correct me if I am wrong, did we not make any adjustments all game? Or did we make them and not execute the plan?
Hard to make critical adjustments when you have a really short bench and you have multiple players really struggling. He could have played Dain more, but that's really about it. I'm not sure how successful DGL would have been as Harmon was getting cooked out there on defense and DGL hasn't shown much on that end this season.
