While all of our losses to PSU last year sucked, it was the BTT one (which I unfortunately attended...) that really stuck with me. The first loss in Champaign seemed like such a random flop that we could theoretically move on. The second loss in State College seemed at least justifiable in that it was a road game. However, to lose to them in our Home Away from Home in front of an 80%+ Illini crowd when we desperately needed that win just felt like PSU pouring salt in our wounds. I think a lot of our fan base has been waiting for some revenge!
I was there. This is easily the worst game that I've ever witnessed, which includes the 2009 :poop:show

I have been an Illini fan since Nick Spoon. That is a long time. This team has the components to go a long way this year. If they keep coming together and peak at the right time, they could do some serious damage. Underwood is doing a phenomenal job here and hopefully this year will be topped off with a long run in the tournament. I have not been this excited since 2005. Don't get me wrong. The 2020-2021 team was good but this team has another gear that if kicked in could take away some pain of our underachieving years that WE have LONG endured. Underwood is right. This is where Illini Basketball belongs. When Illinois basketball is good, it is better for everyone. I love it when we play on the road and see the opposing crowds leave in bitter disappointment after we have brought them down. The best thing about this new NIL period for me is that the Blue Bloods are no longer dominating like they once were. There is much more parity. Listen I know it is not perfect but at least now many more schools have a puncher's chance and that is all that you can ask for. I do believe that Illinois will win a title in the next 5 years. Far fetched you say? For me, the sooner the better :)
My yearly reply to a Weatherspoon mention. A great player and wonderful ILLINI but I remember most fondly a few years later a great guy named NEIL BRESNEHAN. A ferocious rebounder, bordering on an enforcer kind of player
Reminded me of a certain Red Wings defenseman.

When the situation required some cooling off an opposition player, coach would look down the bench at Neil and just nod. Two fouls later he would return to the bench
and usually order had been restored.

The kind of guy I would want on MY team.

Bobby Ray Starnes! Opponents bruised from hands to shoulder.

So many great Illini over the years; don't get me started. But when I was a teenage Illini fan living in St. Louis, MO in the late 60s, I was partial to Greg Jackson. Great. He wore glasses, didn't he? Maybe that's why he stood out to me, other than for his basketball prowess. Anyone who dons an Illinois uniform is automatically a great friend of mine.

If we can handle Stoneybrook before a sellout crowd of 4300, we will be ok here.
Oh man, I remember that game. We eventually pulled it out but that was like playing in a loud high school gym. Wasn't the circus in town so they could not play in Champaign. As it turned out, I believe we got blown out of the water at home to the Dayton Flyers that year.

I had hopes that Goode would be the shooter Funk was last year.

Dude could get his shoulders square to shoot anytime at any speed.
One of the issues Luke has had is he's been shrugging off open looks for a shooter (i.e. not wide the hell open, but open enough to get a good look and shot off). I think he's just lost confidence in his shot so he's looking to give the ball up rather than looking for his shot, and we can't really have that when he's out on the floor. That said, it happens. When it does though, what he needs to do is start making some backside cuts towards the bucket, maybe get an easy layup and a little extra space on the 3pt line to build some confidence.

There will be a game or 2 this year, maybe even in the tourney, where we're going to need him to hit a few threes to spark a run. Gotta just work on getting him out of his own head right now.
