Yeah, they did, several minutes later. A Maryland player quickly extended his arms outward while looking in the other direction and basically clotheslined an in motion Marcus. In fairness, the player didn't see Marcus coming and it wasn't a dirty play. That said, it was a reckless and unnecessary arm motion that certainly was not a basketball play that hit someone in the head. 3 years ago that's a very very easy flagrant 1, no argument whatsoever.

Wondering how much Dain will play against Penn State. I feel bad for him. I'm not saying Coach doesn't know what is best or that we are not at our best when Coleman is at the 5. I'm not saying Dain should start over someone else. I did some stat work to see how productive Dain is when he is in the game. It confirmed what I thought. He is very productive! Here are some stats for him over the last 20 games. I compared his stats to Quincy's over his last 10 games just as a comparison. (Not to say Dain is better than Quincy - Just as a marker to compare with)

Dain - (Last 20 Games - 158 Minutes - 7.9 Avg) (55 Rebounds - 13.9 Per 40 Minutes)(88 Points - 22.3 Per 40 Minutes)
(39 of 63 Field Goals - 61.9%) (10 of 16 Free Throws - 62.5%)
(Note - Last 13 Games - 80 Minutes - 6.2 avg)

Quincy - (Last 10 Games - 254 Minutes - 25.4 Avg) (67 Rebounds - 10.6 Per 40 Minutes) (94 Points - 14.8 Per 40 Minutes)
(29 of 64 Field Goals - 45.3%)(13 of 30 3Pt. Field Goals - 43.3%)(23 of 43 Free Throws - 53.5%)

Again, my point is not to say Dain is better than Quincy or any other player that is playing ahead of him. They all have different skill sets and roles. My point is simply to say that I think it is unusual to have a player who is this productive offensively and who tends to make an immediate impact when in the game, not playing more than 6.2 minutes per game (last 13 games - average). I realize we are probably better defensively in many situations with Dain not in the game but I wonder if it is really that drastic. I love the chemistry of this team and I think Brad is doing a great job! They are fun to watch! I know that Coach Underwood knows a lot more than me about what is best for the team but I just feel bad for Dain and I do think he has played well enough to earn more playing time. I hope he is still here next year and I hope he gets more that 2 minutes playing time against Penn State which is what he got against Maryland.

I hope you’re right.

I’m still wondering why they made the move. It were to avoid the top teams, it would’ve made more sense to schedule vs Purdue. But I don’t believe the conference games were announced by the time the dates were set. It was just serendipitous for both men’s and women’s teams.

I head that the last time PSU moved games to Rec Hall it was because the Bryce Jordan was rented out for Bon Jovi to rehearse, not perform, not put on a show. They make more money renting out the arena to outsiders than to the basketball team.

In fairness, they had Thon—a dance marathon for children—was held this weekend at Bryce Jordan so they may not have had time to reinstall the basketball floor.

That doesn’t change the whole ticket resale conundrum.

Dain has shown some improvement this year- running the floor.

We used to play drop coverage defense (based around Kofi and our small size Trent, Alphonso, Damonte)

This year we play Switching since we have 7 mobile strong medium sized defenders - Terrance 6'7" Ty 6'6 Luke 6'7" Quentin 6'8" Marcus 6'6" Coleman 6'10" and Josh 6'4". All can cover all of the floor and muscle in post.

Dain needs to lose more weight, improve his agility and stamina so he can cover outside the paint. He should be a rebounding shot blocking machine but he plays with low energy when he does not have the ball. He rarely helps on defense. Good talent but one trick pony - bully ball in paint. If he wants NBA he needs to work on his game.

One of those greats passed away this morning. Ted Beach, who played for Harry Combes after the war, was 94. Strangely, he played for Combes for three years at Champaign High School and led them to three state championship games and an overall record of 106-7 (1945-47). He then followed Combes to Illinois for three years where they were 57-17 and won two Big Ten titles.

Agreed. Honestly even early in the year I was pretty confident that he would make opposing teams pay whenever he was left open but he's just gotten into a slump.

That Nebraska game seemed real bad and then the MSU and Maryland games have been ugly and he seems like he's in his own head. Did noticed him drifting backwards as he shot a few times so may be even a bit of a mechanical issue.

He's going to need to figure it out quick or a team that I thought was very deep is basically down to a 6 man rotation plus Dainja when matchups allow.

Really comes down to defense and spacing issues. Guerrier has been up and down but he can play on the perimeter and inside, would like to him be more aggressive off ball and on the offensive boards but he's a lot more versatile then Dain. My main issue with Quincy is when he occasionally gets the ball and dances around trying to drive when he just needs to get downhill quick or move the ball.

Dain has some moves offensively but you really don't need much offense when you constantly have TSJ, Domask, and Coleman on the floor plus Harmon and Guerrier are capable(Goode should be). But Dain draws another guy into the paint to clog things up for Shannon and and can get abused by guards that can shoot in pnr.

Thanks for the pointer. The video makes it pretty hard to see any details in his form (from a distance, looking straight at him without any depth). What I do see is that the form looks inconsistent. Watch his off shooting hand/arm. His motion, once he goes to shoot, seems very quick. I'll take it. A strong defender who demands respect at the 3pt line.
