Every time I see impassive Dain I'm reminded of the adage "still waters run deep."

Agreed. Honestly even early in the year I was pretty confident that he would make opposing teams pay whenever he was left open but he's just gotten into a slump.

That Nebraska game seemed real bad and then the MSU and Maryland games have been ugly and he seems like he's in his own head. Did noticed him drifting backwards as he shot a few times so may be even a bit of a mechanical issue.

He's going to need to figure it out quick or a team that I thought was very deep is basically down to a 6 man rotation plus Dainja when matchups allow.
Have noticed that too with Goode this year. He’s drifting to the side or backwards on a lot of his shots. Not sure if that’s something he’s working on to get shots off when he’s not wide open. But it’s been hurting his form and %.

psu using an old gym to play the Illini......hmmm.........hope there are no ghosts of the evil past there........That being said , if we can contain Ace B. and cover the 3 pt line on D then I see a comfortable win by the beloved.......

psu can hit 3's if left open , and get a lot of turnovers , but our superiority in skill level and the Alpha Male rounding back to his All American playing level , I predict...................................

Illini 83
psu 71

Thanks for the pointer. The video makes it pretty hard to see any details in his form (from a distance, looking straight at him without any depth). What I do see is that the form looks inconsistent. Watch his off shooting hand/arm. His motion, once he goes to shoot, seems very quick. I'll take it. A strong defender who demands respect at the 3pt line.
From what I could see, he still isn't squaring up to the basket, lots of work still ahead.

I don't see that they stop us. If we are on, we win by 25 -30. If we are off, we win by 12-15. That is, if we play HARD.

We’re at that point in the season With 6 games to go + 2-9 tournament games you would hope our senior laden team comes out hard every game of the games meaning more to them since these are the last CBB opportunities for all of them.

TSJ, Harmon, Coleman, Domask QC - I know there’s a little wiggle for Coleman or Domask to come back but I’m sure they are not thinking of it this way right now.

Feel from here on out we’ll see good efforts. If we lose, we lose but won’t be due to lack of being ready.

my primary concern is how we handle trapping defense. Likely solve it and it leads to easy points.

I don’t have a ton of analysis to offer other than saying that I feel this is a huge trap game. Scares me a bit. I will make a few points, but will preface the whole post by saying I think we can and SHOULD win this one by about 5+ points.

1. Another distant road game after a huge emotional win.
2. PSU putting us in their Huff Hall, this has already been discussed. Fans and players will likely be more juiced.
3. Skeletons of 2022-2023 PSU
4. Leading scorer Clary now out, when in reality they actually looked better without him @Indiana and @Rutgers. Addition by subtraction I think
5. % of bets and money (on FD) is about 2/3 illinois but the line hasn’t budged an inch. I never really like that.
6. Our staff had not played this team/coaching staff yet so it’s going in a lot new. There’s tape, but less tape without Clary.
7. Weirdly early tip. Could be a good or bad thing. Also means fans may be trickling in late.

Expect this game to be closer than we’d all like. Maybe we are even down or tied at half. Plenty of Loyalty hand wringing and probably ref complaining in this thread tonight.

However- I trust TSJ being back, both offensively and defensively, and shutting down Ace Baldwin will be huge. Coleman and Domask have been playing very well. This veteran team does not seem to get rattled. My hope is that 3 losses last year means we are extra focused.

I predict Illinois 82-PSU 80. Won’t be comfortable, defense could get gross. I’ll need a drink after this.

Anyway, that’s about my dozen cents :D

I agree with you on the trap game bit and the novelty stadium location.

I think no Clary makes them a worse team overall and not having to defend against a small quick guards that can score is a plus for this Illini team. Though they might get a temporary bump from removing a cancer if that was the case.

They did win without Clary against IU and RU but it took absolutely heroic Baldwin performances where he never left the court. Shut him down and you shutdown their offense.

I think Rodgers and Shannon have the length and athleticism to make life very difficult for Baldwin.

Watching the other BT games this week seemed to me that when a team gets a lead in the first wins. Hit free throws is name of the game. It still will be interesting to see how this game will play out in a small gym.

The only thing that scares me about PSU is that guy with the big butt that owned us last year and I think that he's moved on.

Hypothetically, if we win 5 of the remaining 6 with the lone loss at Iowa. If that enough to get us to the 3 seed?
