Illinois 105, Minnesota 97 Postgame

D was much better in the last 7 minutes, but when you allow teams to get comfortable shooting they will make them. Our D is not good, but glimpses of improvement late. I believe it is mostly, if not all, effort but the scheme also is not great. Clearly higher effort at the end of the game. For all that is holy, please, please, please scrap the drop coverage and start hedging screens. Teams are fu&^ing torching us and have been since we started playing averagely competitive teams. It will not take us far in the tournament. Glad for the win, but tough to see us winning any of the final 3 if we can't stop anything teams want to do.
Amen. At least give a few different looks here and there. You can play drop with Shannon guarding the ball. That’s it. But even then, he would be a part of a good trap duo. Show me that twice a game for all I care. But do SOMETHING. I am sick of double digit second half leads meaning basically nothing.

That was fun! Domask was Barkley like in 2nd half. Harmon's defense was fantastic. CoHawk has scored 50 in 2 games! Quincy played great, and loved the minutes Dain got and his X factor plays. And Shannon is a dang pro. Nice work out there tonight. Minnesota played well. Impressed with Garcia and Christie; Hawkins is fun to watch. Their bench only scored 3 points on one shot. Go Illini!

The nets in SFC tonight must be really worn out.

The Gophers were on fire.

But the better team won, nonetheless.

Not enough defensive resistance, for sure. But several gophers were abnormally nice from deep tonight.

Game ball to Dain Dainja for spinning gold from his precious minutes on the floor, making winning plays on both sides of the court. The unwavering tenacity in his play, game after game, despite the cage they’ve put around the Dancing Bear, is supremely admirable.

Let’s keep tightening the grip as we march towards March.
Seems most teams are on fire against us!? I watched some replays and don't feel we are playing that awful on D and yet teams still hit their contested shots against us. Let's hope whoever we play in the tourney doesn't go into turbo mode against us.

Hearing Bruce say (paraphrasing here) to screw the defense when you can score like this makes me wonder who has taken over his body.

I know lots in here don’t like him, I’ll always like him and i feel like he can’t hide his affection for Illinois.

Well folks , that was an exciting game with the beloved SCORING the victory.........the goofers shot lights out and LOST........the name of the game is scoring more points than your opponent and that is what we did.........

I think the game turned in our favor for good when BU made an ADJUSTMENT and put TSJ back on the goofer PG.......It slowed down their movement and our D seemed to tighten up somewhat.......Allowing 97 points in a B$G game doesn't sound great but scoring 105 sounds exciting as hell to me.......

3 Illini with 20 + points........
Dain with an excellent game tonight and hit all 3 FT's........( I think )......Dain with his most minutes in B$G this year and he deserved every second.......dain gets more of Goode's minutes......
TSJ with 29 points......
The Doc Domask did some carving down low again and got 22 points.....
Harmon with hard core defense in the second half......
Cohawk started the game out great and played a very MATURE game again tonight...................
QG hit some 3's when needed and played hard all game long.....
hate to say it but Ty didn't deserve a lot of minutes in the second half.......
Goode hit a 3 but sat almost the whole second half and I'm ok with that.....................\

BU's radio presser............

talked about B$G perception as slow and physical.......not tonight................
Deon said good game O & D.......BU said not the D.....................lol
we ran one play .....Domask down low....booty-ball............got a lot of assists doing it................
since the debacle at psu cohawk has been great in practice and games...................fought through the game and got 20 points.....
dain gives us a physical presence.....figuring out how to play him in the booty ball scheme......he's a grown man and stopped some of the down low stuff by goofers.......
Harmon , when locked in , he can guard anyone.............
TSJ on the ball slowed down Hawkins and was a big key to the win...................
offense wins games , defense wins championships ....tonight our offense won us this game...........

Agreed. Great ambassador and he was at the helm of a team that gave us our winningest season in school history. He's such a a nice guy and a standup guy.....which ironically was his demise with recruiting. You have to work in the gray area and he just wouldn't.

They hit 3s some of them were open but a lot had a hand in their face in the first half.

I think sometimes the problem with our defense is the game has a good flow. The ball starts going in and then the shooters get hot for both teams. MD vs NW was low scoring because open shots were not going in. The threes missed in that game were similar to the ones Minnesota made
It’s more about the matchups that I’m referring to. Most great defensive teams (Houston, Virginia) play as a unit, not so much 1 on 1.

They make the offense ugly.

How many dunks and layups in the half court do we give up a game? It’s gotta be higher than the median.
