Purdue 77, Illinois 71 Postgame

We were right there for most of the game. Let them get hot from 3 in the second half. Ultimately, I have to question Brad on putting Goode in during crunch time. It lost us the game at Michigan State and if he thinks this will get his confidence going I would like to remind him its too late for that. If Goode passes up 3s he is better served on the bench.

I question playing Amani especailly him taking that 3. In a game like this with Dain only with 2 fouls I don't see why. That shot is essentially a turnover. Ever possession matters and a few key plays changed things.
Domask losing his grip going up for a dunk and then the Gillis three killed us and Harmon missing a wide open look with a great pass from Domask. Purdue shooters made em from 3 and really just Quincy and one from Goode for us was the difference.

That nighty nite motion from Smith near the end after his three was unwarranted, unsportsmanlike and should have been Teed up.
That stare down by Edey after he fouled (‘blocked’) Hawkins…definitely a T.

Being psyched after hitting a big shot to ice the game? Naw, I’m good with it. Reminds me of this type of stuff with Ayo and we would’ve lost our minds if he got T’d.

Domask had a couple wide open ones tonight ... Harmon had a WIDE open one with about 2 minutes to go ...

Goode passed on at least 2 that come to mind ...
Other than MD we played really tight down the stretch. Guys looked like the ball was on fire when it did get passed out of MD’s hands. MD is awesome but it also stagnates team ball when everyone else stands on the perimeter. That is where TY cutting is huge and could be an X factor late. Unfortunately he has to be in the game.

It was not the teams night when Jones makes a boneheaded play to force that shot and the ball somehow bounces around and back to Purdue.

The more I think about it the more I'm mad about this loss. Let's be real, who have we really beat that's worth bragging about? We had to win this game if we want to act like we are legit.

As has been mentioned the double-team adjustment at half is just awful. Mainly b/c this is not a great defensive team and the rotations off the double team was terrible. It could work but not with this team.

Absolutely don’t understand why Dain didn’t play more in the 2nd half. He was bodying Edey way better than CH. And AH was just way overmatched.

I thought the big turning point was Harmon’s missed 3. I would have loved to see him make 1 more pass to CH. Harmon missed a couple wide open shots and PU hit theirs. That’s the difference.

This one hurts b/c it was there for the taking.

That stared own AFTER committing a clear foul and getting away with it (like he always does) definitely deserved one based on the BS techs we've gotten over the years

OK, after some time and reflection

1) We did play defense tonight, so it is still possible
2) They are a #1 seed and played like it
3) They have Edey, and no one else does
4) We played a real game and did not get home calls, but we didn't get screwed either
5) We are ok and I see us playing in the sweet 16, hard to guard Domask, Shannon, and Hawkins
We did get screwed on the so-called edey block on Cohawk...clear foul. The weird backcourt kick was another strange call...if anything calls at end were tilted against us.

Regardless, when Purdue hits their last four 3ps, I expect they will always win.

Also it’s more bad luck than anything, but … the missed Domask layup turned into a 3. It more or less ended it.
Another pivotal play in the second half was Hawkins dunk attempt were Edey got all wrist. Should have been a foul and a T. I've seen plays this year where the guy got all ball and still got called for a foul, just ridiculous. I believe that changed the momentum of the game.

Lately Harmon’s been the guy cutting like that, but tonight he just wasn’t for whatever reason

My brother was there and told me the crowd was electric! It was really really loud. I just DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY UNDERWOOD STARTED DOUBLING EDEY in the second half. They were winning and keeping their shooters locked up! They were up 6 at half.

4th or 5th pending the next couple of games.
It does not matter what our seed is, we will play a very good team. We need to be able to win down the stretch, too many empty trips tonight, leading to Purdue getting in a rhythm. Give Purdue credit, they got stops in the second half on the road in a difficult environment. Don't feel like we were able to make Smith uncomfortable. Surprisingly, TJS got outplayed on his home court by Smith.
