Idk how rate is calculated but they are also 63rd for total opponent 3pt fgs made.
It's the % of shots opponents take that are 3s. The national average is 37%, Illinois's opponents are at 27%, which is 7th nationally and 2nd among tourney teams behind Creighton. Their defense is predicated at running opponents off the 3 point line so they take fewer of them.

If Morehead does the whole 5 man on Ty thing …

Ty is dropping 20 on Dieonte Miles …
And if they don't put Miles on Ty, then Morehead is going to task someone who is roughly the same height and weight as Ty to try and keep him off the boards. Considering Ty is currently 118th in the nation in offensive rebounding percentage and he has done that going against guys who normally have 4+ inches and 30-50lbs on him, if Ty stays out of foul trouble and plays like he did in the BTT, he might just go off. If it goes optimally, I would not be surprised if he winds up with 14pts and 12+rebs.

I'm going to be honest here: the Illini should beat the hell out of Morehead State & BYU doesn't scare me at all.

LvilleILL is absolutely correct: BYU hasn't seen the likes of the Illini. This Illinois team just put 93 points on a team that is better than BYU.

Isn't Iowa State very beatable, too? I'm not saying, but saying . . . . .

Having typed all that: one damn game at a time. Destroy Morehead State. Illinois 88, Morehead St. 71.
From the talk I’ve been hearing, Morehead likes to run slow ball. A few sites have Morehead as upset pick. I’m with you though, I feel Illini should win by decent margin, but more like 68-59

ESPN Bracket guys seem to be consistently liking us getting past IA state to play UConn, hope they are right, then play UConn with our hair on fire like we can do inconsistently
I actually think Iowa State is a really good matchup.

They are not that great offensively. They can struggle to score. I think that plays well into a team that has had some issues to defend. They are very good defensively, but they will not be able to totally contain Illinois for 40 minutes.

I absolutely blatantly watched Championship Week games from phone in my office and I'll be doing the same this week.

(I did mute it when kids or parents came in to speak with me. I'm not a total heathen.)
In the past, at my work place, when we were all in office...we would set up 3 TV's next to each other and run all the games. We would all gather around and half way work and watch the games. Now I work from home, so I just have games off to the side while I do my thing.

It's great.

Get in the film room with this long twitter thread:

Two big questions:

How good is Morehead at avoiding fouling if and when Domask, Shannon and Rodgers force the issue against their drop coverage?

How effectively can Morehead rebound against a much bigger team man-for-man?

I foresee us having real defensive problems against this team, their cleverness and creativity in generating their 3 point looks will have Hamer QAnon going berserk in the game thread, but the path to a blowout is in a virtuous cycle of dominating the glass and getting their bigs into foul trouble.

Not that small with 2 6’7 guys and 2 6’5” guys. But if they go to the offensive glass they will get killed on the break. Don’t know how quick they are but our problems are generally with quick scoring guards and big centers who can score. Doesn’t look like they have either. Just don’t want to face a #11 like North Carolina State.

Just as a reference, BYU is ranked 12 in net as a 6 seed. Texas tech is 28th as a 6 seed.

Iowa state is 6 in Net as a 2, Marquette is 13 as a 2.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear the NCAA selection committee hates Illinois.
Nah its just the selection committee doesn't only look at predictive metrics, they also look at results-based metrics, where BYU does not perform as well

'Morning all. How good does it feel to have another banner in the Illini rafters this a.m.? Compare and contrast with how we all felt a year ago today having lost to PSU ignominiously for the third time heading into an 8-9 matchup with Shoeless Matt.

😁😍😎:illinois:🏀

A blurb from the Athletic live blog during the Selection Show, from the "we're not trapped in the pod with them, they're trapped in the pod with us" camp:

Appears they wanted special dispensation for their religious beliefs without a penalty for having to travel and play easier teams. Well guess what BYU, not playing on Sundays comes with a price tag.

ugh man..I'm a barber and mostly booked that day, but just randomly had some slots open from 2-3:15 and from 3:45-4:30....Hoping the game won't go past 4:30! I blocked off those open slots now! Let's go!
I pity your 430 appt, you're either gonna be pissed and hack away, or amped up and jittery. "Oh just let me settle down a little before I take that straight razor to your neck"
