If that was on the table, you'd be dumb not to.Luke’s graduated and may be thinking Harvard for his Masters!

I mean he is Crystal balled to us. That has like a 70-75 percent hit rate so we should be good0440 % of landing Storr? any idea?
Grad students are not allowed to play sports in the Ivy LeagueLuke’s graduated and may be thinking Harvard for his Masters!
Boswell, Storr, Hill, Maddox, Davis, TBD Big guy ...
In addition to Ty, Rez, DGL, Hansberry, Butler
Redshirt Jakstys and leave a ride open ... Or if Goode stays/Hawkins return ...
What do we think ???
TSJ was a very good defender before he got here.So did TJ when he got here.
This is exactly how I'm looking at it. Two year windows.I think our doom and gloomers are so blinded by the amount of new faces they don’t see that this IS actually a multi-year team development process.
That lineup as is has enough to be a very good, competitive tournament team. You have a mix of young talented guys getting their first round of major minutes, and guys who have played a lot of college minutes.
But the payoff for that group is really year 2, with Boswell, Storr, Ty, Davis, DGL, Rez, and Hansberry having practiced and played together the ENTIRE season before. That’s 7 rotation guys, so you plug and play an impact transfer after next year, and now you have continuity AND experience, and you push for another Elite 8/ Final Four run.
Worst case scenario is you develop somebody’s game faster than anticipated, they go pro, and you have another slot to fill. But man, what a terrible sell that would be to the next guy, right? “We need you to fill his spot because we put him in the league. We have all this coming back. Come make a deep tourney run with us and then you’ll be in the league next year.”
You can't rely on guys sticking around multiple years you just can't. You have to put the team that you think can win this upcoming year together. Who is to say next year all these guys don't jump in the portal again looking for more.I think our doom and gloomers are so blinded by the amount of new faces they don’t see that this IS actually a multi-year team development process.

I’ve seen NBA draft write-ups saying TSJ has regressed as a defender at Illinois actually.TSJ was a very good defender before he got here.
It is interesting the comparison of Harmon to Sencire as it seems more likely Sencire wouldn't have redshirted if we didn't bring Justin in. While Justin's early season ability to shoot the cover off the ball from 3, finish at the rim, and make free throws were very favorable and made up for the giant defensive drop-off, taking the whole season and careers into perspective, this is what we see:
Harmon shot 31% from 3 and 47% from 2, both of which are right on his career averages. His free throw percentage was 92% this year on low volume (only 47 attempts), which is much higher than his 78% career average. He was a 1.15ppp player on 15% contributions rate this season, but that isn't anything close to his pre Illinois 0.94ppp average. He did have a 9.6 assomist rate and 1.3 steal rate.
Sencire in his freshman season shot 32% from 3 and 49% from 2, both better than Justin. He was only a 0.96ppp player on 16% contributions but teammate quality does have something to do with that as seen by Justin's huge jump this year as well. And he had an 11.2 assist rate and 3.3% steal rate, both much better than Justin. And Sencire was a much much much better defender overall. So the only thing not in Sencire's favor was his free throw percentage of 20% on low volume (20 free throws).
So when you compare season to season, Sencire seems like he greatly outperformed supersenior Justin Harmon as a freshman. Gut feel is if Sencire just gets a normal free throw percentage, he would be a major benefit to having him on the team and Justin played 19mpg this year...
There is no way you can count on Davis next season the same way you can count on Goode to provide valuable minutes.Isn’t Jake Davis a Luke clone? Same height, same skills, same role- that might tell us something
Well, at least there is a plan for 20 ppg then.Think Mark Alstork
I can't believe Goode would leave. He's in line for a HUGE role next year. There is no way you can count on Davis next season the same way you can count on Goode to provide valuable minutes.
winning the third most games in program history and making an elite eight. That's not good enough? There is no point worrying about any of this until the roster is set. Brad knows what he's doing.I can't believe Goode would leave. He's in line for a HUGE role next year.
And lets not forget that we let NBA Rookie of the Year Brandin Podziemski leave because we wanted Luke Goode to start. Now we're Creaning him? What are we doing here?

What in the world? Wemby is running away with first, and Chet is running away with second.NBA Rookie of the Year Brandin Podziemski
Agree with your post in general that the direction BU seems to be taking is aimed at another big run in Morez’s second year while still being very competitive next year. But your worst case scenario is not close to the worst. Your core group not gelling in year 1 and/or 1 or more of them transferring out are far worse — and I’m not sure any less likely to happen than your worst case scenario.I think our doom and gloomers are so blinded by the amount of new faces they don’t see that this IS actually a multi-year team development process.

Seems most think we needed Podz schollie for Skyy. Again lol on that decision.
I don’t really follow the nba other than to check out Ayo’s stats. Is Podz really ROY? Not sure if serious. I’ll have to go search that.
I'm just goofing about Podz ROY, but he's really good and clearly would have run with the opportunity to play more here. What in the world? Wemby is running away with first, and Chet is running away with second.
I believe Indy or one of the other insiders said the plan is to optimize year 2 with Morez while still being very competitive next year.Well, in fairness to the doom and gloomers I think you're the first to call it a two year project. I think your take is pretty good.
As @illini0440 stated, "It’s not like we’re kicking kicking anyone out and you can’t force a kid to stay."I get it, I just don't feel like this being a yearly thing is optimal. I would certainly hope Goode stays, to work on his Masters as well as mentoring Davis for a year. Sencire Harris .... what exactly is the drawback to having a slot on your roster dedicated to a bona fide defensive stopper at the 1-3 positions??? I'm just skeptical of the benefits and possible drawbacks of having only 3 returnees from this years team.
Huh. He's a freshman who is coming next year. He signed his letter of intent last fall.Do you think we get that Morez Johnson guy? Not seeing his name much here.
The value of Goode's minutes were quite inconsistent. He came on towards the end of the year and made some clutch plays, but there were many games where he was a liability on defense and was clanking open 3's.There is no way you can count on Davis next season the same way you can count on Goode to provide valuable minutes.

Agreed here. I'd be bummed if Luke left.I'm just goofing about Podz ROY, but he's really good and clearly would have run with the opportunity to play more here.
My point is that Goode was a priority in that moment. He also ate more and more minutes from Guerrier and Harmon as this season went along, and the team improved as he did.
He's really good, the proposed rotations look much, much weaker without him.
