Come make a deep tourney run with us and then you’ll be in the league next year.”

This is exactly how I'm looking at it. Two year windows.

Year one: Reload, establish roles and culture. Make the tournament.

Year two: Return the core of the team and try to do something special.

Rinse and repeat.

You can't rely on guys sticking around multiple years you just can't. You have to put the team that you think can win this upcoming year together. Who is to say next year all these guys don't jump in the portal again looking for more.

I’ve seen NBA draft write-ups saying TSJ has regressed as a defender at Illinois actually.

He’s still really good, I didn’t watch him enough at Tech to opine conclusively. He is being asked to expend a lot more energy offensively, that always has an impact.

And he had an 11.2 assist rate and 3.3% steal rate, both much better than Justin. And Sencire was a much much much better defender overall. So the only thing not in Sencire's favor was his free throw percentage of 20% on low volume (20 free throws).

So when you compare season to season, Sencire seems like he greatly outperformed supersenior Justin Harmon as a freshman. Gut feel is if Sencire just gets a normal free throw percentage, he would be a major benefit to having him on the team and Justin played 19mpg this year...

What percentage of his two point shots were layups or dunks. Do Ty and Sencie show well enough to be on the floor at the same time.

I can't believe Goode would leave. He's in line for a HUGE role next year.

And lets not forget that we let NBA Rookie of the Year Brandin Podziemski leave because we wanted Luke Goode to start. Now we're Creaning him? What are we doing here?

winning the third most games in program history and making an elite eight. That's not good enough? There is no point worrying about any of this until the roster is set. Brad knows what he's doing.

Seems most think we needed Podz schollie for Skyy. Again lol on that decision.

I don’t really follow the nba other than to check out Ayo’s stats. Is Podz really ROY? Not sure if serious. I’ll have to go search that.

Agree with your post in general that the direction BU seems to be taking is aimed at another big run in Morez’s second year while still being very competitive next year. But your worst case scenario is not close to the worst. Your core group not gelling in year 1 and/or 1 or more of them transferring out are far worse — and I’m not sure any less likely to happen than your worst case scenario.

I’ll be interested to see who we bring in. I’m not a fan of the drastic changes NIL and portal have brought to college basketball, but it is what it is. Just happy we have a HC who has a plan and the NIL money to implement it. But the new landscape has robbed college fans in large part of seeing teams develop over years. Just as bad I think is that it has robbed college fans of the wonderful pastime of projecting what your team will look like in a year, two or three. So while I like the approach BU is taking, I’m not going to waste much time thinking about year 2 until year 2 starts and the core group you mention is actually still intact.

I'm just goofing about Podz ROY, but he's really good and clearly would have run with the opportunity to play more here.

My point is that Goode was a priority in that moment. He also ate more and more minutes from Guerrier and Harmon as this season went along, and the team improved as he did.

He's really good, the proposed rotations look much, much weaker without him.

Sencire Harris .... what exactly is the drawback to having a slot on your roster dedicated to a bona fide defensive stopper at the 1-3 positions??? I'm just skeptical of the benefits and possible drawbacks of having only 3 returnees from this years team.

The value of Goode's minutes were quite inconsistent. He came on towards the end of the year and made some clutch plays, but there were many games where he was a liability on defense and was clanking open 3's.

I know he is solid locker room guy and steadying force from a culture perspective, but from a performance perspective I believe we will see an upgrade.
