Okay, let me try this: Dain has entered the portal while Jake and Storr can be penciled into next year's roster. Accurate?

I don't do Twitter either. Her posts are all through this forum though, embedded into different threads. That's how I saw them.

She basically went off anytime she thought DGL didn't get the playing time he deserved. She went at it with Purdue fans who were pissed he decommitted from them to come here. She's a mama bear on steroids who wants to defend her son (totally understandable!) but does it in the worst, most public way possible (Twitter). DGL had to come out during the season and tell people that unless it comes from him, we shouldn't believe anything about him and his relationship at Illinois.

She wants good things for her son. I can't blame the woman for that. But she makes headlines when she shouldn't.

can't help but admire her restraint

also, she does have some modicum of self-awareness, including the ability to laugh at one's self

Nickname is Buck because he’s from the Buckeye State. Teammate(s) gave him that nickname.
Thanks to you both. I wish I could see a future for him with us, but his offensive shortcomings are too profound.

Where did I say any of that? I never said anything about not making the second weekend ever. I also didn't say we aren't winning in my preferred way. I said that while the portal can be great we cannot lose our identity. Certain players fit that identity, and have contributed to winning(you need both of those). There are plenty of negative posters on this board and you can feel free to reply to them, but nothing I said is off the wall. If we want to have a consistent program then we need to cultivate and retain personalities/players that fit.
Fair enough, good point made as well that we need to make sure the guys we bring in while having loads of talent are good culture fits.

everyone complaining how we're going about this wrong or how NIL is ruining things, after we've had our most successful season in almost 20 years:

This belongs in the basketball uniform thread ;)

says it's not our most successful season. nsjs. the criticism is founded in legitimate concerns backed by facts.

Most wins, and best tourney performance in 20 years.... so play with whatever metrics you want but its undoubtedly our best season since '05.

Now keep your dooming to yourself while we keep hanging banners.

From a fan perspective, I feel more invested in a player like Coleman who stays for 4 years, vs 1 and dones like Guerrier or Harmon, who may be great people but I never got to know much about them. Part of the fun as a fan is watching guys grow and develop from skinny freshman to dead-eye veteran, and all the ups and downs along the way. At the end of the day I want to win, but changing out all your stalwarts for hired guns every season weakens that fan/player bond.

Which, overall, BU and Co. have done a good job at this so I don't know why you are bringing it up.

Because, as I said, on our roster Ty, Goode, and Harris fit this mold. And there have been many saying 2 of the 3 are leaving. Seems pretty obvious why I brought it up.

On Goode, I hope he wants to return, and that Brad is thrilled about that. I'd like to see him one more year. I think he does a lot of things well, things a team needs to win.
I like Goode as well but he won't ever be more than a 7-8th player (2nd or 3rd off the bench) on a strong team. He's a good culture guy but if he hits 10 points in a game we all cheer. With a much more dynamic Rodgers on the team and a Buck as well, how many low-scoring guys can you play? Plus Goode is a heavy-footed weak defender who punches above his weight at rebounding and diving for balls, but coverage is suspect.

Could you imagine him ever being even an honorable mention all-big ten player?

We like him because he's ours. To say that he won this game or that game doesn't take into account that someone else COULD have been playing in his place and also contributed to the win.

As I said, I like Goode. Classic second-string over-achiever, coach's favorite... Worth a scholarship? Sure! If he wants to leave? Godspeed!

Oh I have seen those in the other threads and during the season, I thought you meant it was something that is currently saying.

having 13 players with no crazy parents sounds awesome in theory, but it's virtually impossible in the year 2024. you just have to be smart with knowing when to walk away and not take someone that could cause issues. I trust that the staff has learned their lesson after Skyy/Epps.

Don't like that attitude either, but based on his post-Illinois body of work he was not far off.
I have a hard time with this talk about him.. Him and Trent were always supporting each other after he left and his dad was on here a bunch before the season 2 years ago and seemed like a great guy.

Totally agree, I was just responding to the other poster's comment. I only saw positive things regarding Podz while here but am certainly no insider.

I offer a toast to Milwaukee and the beer that made Mel Famy walk us! Great area, so clean, and the best hockey announcer of all time, Lloyd Pettit, was a Miwaukee fixture after his Blackhawks days. Great zoo, too. Wait a sec - got to refill glass ... and that great German restaurant downtown.
Haven't heard that pun for almost 50 years - thought it was Milt Famey though.

Hopefully the staff learned from the Matthew Mayer experience. To see him chuckling about playing video games and drinking red bulls into caffeine poisoning was embarrassing. I get the everyday guy mantra. To me though Brad and staff can be like we want you but you are going to have to compete for playing time and rotational minutes. If an everyday culture guy isn't down with that they should leave. Playing time is not guaranteed based on seniority it is based on production.
It was Monster !

The new Illini newcomers this time around from the Transfer Portal is a litmus test for how well the Illini program restoration has taken root in the National Zeitgeist. Just as this will serve for ALL roundball programs from now on as talent decides who is the best fit for them and where is the greatest opportunity to win.

I love The Portal. A chance to reshuffle the deck every single season and avoid any down years. Good for roundball programs and great for young men.
