“My job as a coach is to find someone better than you. Your job as a player is to make sure I can’t”

If thats part of his goal in coming back then hopefully its an offseason focus.Domask was the PG for 3/4s of the season. Domask and a transfer would assume that role again next year. If he gets a waiver
Since I'm not an attorney that makes sense. Once again, do you believe he hired the attorneys to negotiate with the NCAA or to sue them?I’m glad you and Gritty aren’t his lawyers
We are going to get a PG. But they feel comfortable with Domask in that spot too and booty ballIf thats part of his goal in coming back then hopefully its an offseason focus.
His handle was good enough to fill in but pretty loose in a lot of games.
With his vertical leap 10 to 15 feet is not a great distance. Is the shooting something that can be improved, at least from 15 feet and in?
Did you read something in my post that suggest I don't want to upgrade the roster?Refusing to upgrade the roster has a similar effect as guaranteeing playing time to certain players. Both can also erode culture. The culture we have established involves competing and not expecting anything to be handed to you. Earn your roster spot and earn your minutes. Every new player that comes in (whether as a freshman or a transfer) will be expected to do the same.
His handle improved as the season went on and his usage went up.If thats part of his goal in coming back then hopefully its an offseason focus.

Agreed. Domask did a nice job and Underwood made the best of a not-ideal situation, but I'd much prefer Domask be the "secondary PG." (that is if we're lucky to get him back, which I'm skeptical of).If thats part of his goal in coming back then hopefully its an offseason focus.

What makes you think this is happening?Well, filling roster spots without regard to culture
How do you establish and maintain continuity?and without continuity within your system
I don't think anyone was happy with last season's results, but which factors contributed to that result are up for debate.is how you get the results from last season.
Prove themselves how?I'll give every incoming player a chance to prove themselves.
What makes you think this is happening? Plenty of people are discussing concerns about culture and fit (e.g., the back and forth about Storr). But I'm mystified that so many people aren't seeing much beyond ratings and stat lines.
It is, but his rebounding won is some games last year. Seemed to me that Brad started having in games late after the Psu let down.Love Ty but his inability to shoot is a big problem in him seeing the floor in the future
But he’d have to be an instate recruit……If we brought in a 5 star prep recruit and he took a current players spot no one would bat an eye…..
The continued discussion of Domask as a part of the 2024/2025 squad from insiders is exciting. We are going to get a PG. But they feel comfortable with Domask in that spot too and booty ball
That sounds like they feel the Domask decision has a good chance to be favorable. We are going to get a PG. But they feel comfortable with Domask in that spot too and booty ball
This would be the case whether he stays at IL or goes elsewhere (and I certainly hope he stays). That shooting is important in basketball is obvious.Love Ty but his inability to shoot is a big problem in him seeing the floor in the future
Have you read the posts here before? Of course people would bat an eye. There would be at least half a dozen posters arguing that a 5 star player here for 1 or 2 years isn't worth delaying the development of Joe 4-star who will be here for 3+. It happens every time except maybe with Fears. If we brought in a 5 star prep recruit and he took a current players spot no one would bat an eye…..
That’s almost hard to do these days. If they are THAT good, they’ve left and play in Arizona or over at LaLu. Kinda like buying an “American” car. So tough to define, ya know? But he’d have to be an instate recruit……
, just like I think Sencire could've been a very capable starter this year had we given him the opportunity instead of signing Justin Harmon. But that's entirely up for debate and I'm certainly happy to agree to disagree.
Well, if the coaches believed that Clark was an EDG, they badly misjudged. As to how players prove themselves it's by effort on the court, buying into the system, etc. I have my doubts about Storr. But my judgement about him will wait until I see what he brings to the Illini if he comes here.Fine, we'll break it down one piece at a time then:

Last year was an outlier as far as team culture goes. Years prior, the everyday guys were in full effect.Did you read something in my post that suggest I don't want to upgrade the roster?
I'm on record as saying that the concept of "recruiting over" is ridiculous. Every player all the time should expect to be recruited over. That's the coach's job.
And I agree that needing to earn your minutes is crucial. But there's plenty of chatter in here about players who are looking for guarantees for time that it sounds like we're willing to give.
And last season we had Clark who was apparently guaranteed a starting spot.
I love the culture we established this year compared to the culture that was present the previous season. I'd like to keep it going.
He transferred to Wake Forest and then came back.Casey Washington, right here at illinois. Transferred to Georgia Tech and came back.
Or his two fouls in a minute against NW. I like Harris but him and Ty cannot be on the floor at the same timeSure could have used Sencire's defense on numerous occasions this past year.
Love his energy and EDG demeanorWhich absolutely pains me …
Never have to question Ty’s effort or level of care … But not being a threat to shoot is an absolute killer …
