I'm more interested in who goes a-portalin' or reopens their recruitment as a result of this shake-up.

UK was going to lose their entire team anyways ...

The recruiting class I have been told some will open and others will follow Cal ...

If Drew got the job at UK ... The team would nearly all follow him there ... He would be hiring at least 1 new assistant though ... AB3 and Jared would go with him ...

As I reported to @illini0440 at like 9 PM last night before all the national guys got the story ...

The contract is 5 years @ 8.5 per year ... Up to 10 with incentives ...

I have been told 6 million per year NIL with ability to go higher if necessary for a game changing talent ...
Where do we (and other schools) rank against that # in terms of that NIL?

Say what you will about Cal. Arkansas is about to be relevant in the college hoops scene.

That's a hell of an NIL budget.

OA return is on the table ... That's really all I can say right now ...

I don't want to get into details of how just yet ... Some things would have to play out ...
Not just because we could get OA back, but would be so happy for Chester to get a shot at leading a program if that's who would be moving on for a promotion. I really think he has *IT* to be a successful high major coach at some point (and this would be the first step).

I think at some point Hurley could make the jump to the NBA ...

He is not a fan of the portal ... He does it ... Well I should say Luke and Kimani do it ...

But he's not a fan ...
If Hurley wants a humbling experience, the Bulls job sounds like it is about to open. To be clear, I would not wish that job to my worst enemy.

Honestly, I think people just assume that since he played at Purdue, took over for Keady and has been there so long, he's a lifer and it's about more than money/a higher ceiling. However, this opens up a very interesting question I often have. Why are some schools in general considered above poaching by the media and casual fans? For example, are people going to be constantly worrying that Dusty May will leave Michigan for a Blue Blood if he kills it there? I am sure some will, but a lot of people will just assume Michigan will pay to keep him ... even though Michigan's basketball prestige isn't any better (especially currently!) than an Illinois or Arkansas, which seem to get thrown around as potential "Blue Blood stepping stones" a lot more. Why wasn't there constant chatter that Thad Matta would leave for North Carolina or something if Roy had worse health problems? Why is no one wondering if Arizona will have Tommy Lloyd poached? Why couldn't Kentucky have taken Jay Wright from Villanvoa whenever they wanted to back in the day? (Remember, 'Nova's history was INCREDIBLY similar to ours until the recent titles.) Just food for thought.
I would think it would take a ton to get Painter to consider leaving Purdue, and his post-season resume isn't enough for anyone who might have the resources to persuade him to really consider targeting him. With the type of offer that would likely be required, you could probably get the attention of sexier options.

I think UNC doesn't get much chatter because they don't ever seem to go outside the UNC family for coaches. If you coach wasn't a Tar Heel player, he probably won't be the Tar Heel coach.

Lloyd at Arizona is interesting, since that conference is about to take a major hit. He has won either the Conference title, the conference tournament, or both in all 3 seasons there. He has yet to get past the sweet 16, which is probably holding him back from being a primary target for blue bloods. Arizona is on the next tier down from being a true-blue blood, but it's certainly a great job.

Would Wright have been a good fit at Kentucky? You really need someone who will embrace the pressure that comes with those expectations. Wright got weary of the grind at Villanova, where he was a made man... Plus, when he was coaching, Cal's shine was still pretty bright. It has worn off rapidly the past few years.

I think there's a situation where TA, C Fraz and OA could all be on the same staff ... And no I am not saying Geoff would be fired ...

And this likely won't happen but I can confirm it has been discussed ...

Are people really still doing this Brad to KSU stuff? If he ever wanted to go home there were better times. It’s 2024. Brad is established at a school with more money, more power, and more prestige in this current system. KSU can’t match us. If Brad leaves, which seems unlikely at this point, he’s not taking a lesser job, with fewer resources, for less pay.

The Office Thank You GIF

That's incredible. I would never have guessed Arkansas collectives would have that much available towards basketball in donations, especially when I see most of that school's fanbase being far far far more interested in football and would prefer squeezing every last dollar of NIL into that. Truly remarkable. Sounds like a place made for Calipari- endless money to get anyone he wants, more reasonable expectations, gets to stick it to UK on an annual basis. Seems like a great match for him.

Yeah I assume the only way that would work would be to send Hamer packing and put GA back in the non-recruiting AC position.

Highly doubt GA would go for that as it would seem like a demotion.....but one can dream though lol

Indiana St is in need of a head coach.

The new NCAA rule allows for 5 Assistant Coaches ... Only 3 of these coaches can recruit off campus ...

However - any of the 5 are allowed to recruit off campus if that makes sense ? Just not all 5 at a time ... Only 3 ... Which is why we have seen Tyler out at AAU events and he was super involved during the portal recruiting ...

So would it really be a demotion ? If Geoff's goal is to become a HC (which it is) ... Maybe more time on campus shadowing Brad would help than going overseas to recruit ... 🤷‍♂️ While still being able to go out and recruit sometimes ...

Understandable that Illinois doesn't have the NIL firepower compared to Kentucky basketball, but getting beat by Arkansas basketball for NIL is a discussion for another day.
Arkansas is arguably equal to or better than Illinois historically. Same all-time win%, more national championships, more national championship appearances, more final fours, more tournament appearances. And also similar to Illinois, they're under respected nationally.

How the heck is that monitored? Looks like a lot of grey areas that are exploited.
