I think that my issue is thinking that people who are all about the $, often prove to not be EDGs. It feels like Brad has pivoted on this recently...

So Michigan gets Vlad Goldin AND Danny Wolf, Indiana gets Ballo, Ohio State gets Bradshaw, Purdue has a 7'2" star freshman center coming in and now Ugonna is headed to Alabama instead of Champaign. Are we sure we don't have any interest in Omoruyi?

Not being able to stop bigs hurt us last season and it looks like it will be an even BIGGER challenge in the B10 conference this year. Please insiders, tell me there is a plan!
We know he's 7'-2" and a freshman, but star seems like quite the reach at this point.

So far we are counting on our Davis to defeat those Goliaths (especially with those Samson locks)

I think that someone said a few days ago on this thread that G/F Desmond Claude of Xavier would not be transferring to Illinois. Is that true? I think that he would be a nice addition to the Illini roster. Two years of eligibility left. 6'6" tall, athletic, versatile, handles well, a willing passer, and a good defender. Claude was scoring very well down the stretch last season for Xavier, all while playing through an injury to his shooting elbow.

BIG_G2332: Thanks for asking about those two Oklahoma State players, both in the transfer portal. I've been banging that drum for a while. Asking questions. Getting no answers. I think that Brandon Garrison and Javon Small would be perfect additions to the Illinois roster. I'm assuming that neither player would come cheaply.
I haven't seen or heard anything about Garrison for weeks, likely because either the staff or the kid / his camp aren't interested in pursuing it further. Several insiders have said that Small isn't happening. Again don't know which side made that decision. However, hoping and wishing for things that are not on the staff's radar just leads to wasted emotional capital. I know it is hard to not know what is going to happen, especially in a world of instant gratification. I, too, would love to have more information about what the staff is doing, who they are pursuing, etc. People need to relax, and let the process play out. Nothing that you post on this board is going to change anything. If nobody is talking about the guys that you are wondering about, it means that they most likely are not guys that we are going after anymore.

It is surprising to me how many people lack confidence in the recruiting abilities of Underwood, Antigua and Alexander, given their histories.

I am comfortable waiting to see where we on May 30th, the day after the NBA Draft early withdrawal deadline.

It's classic whining Illini behavior. There will always always always be something to complain about or wring hands over.

Don't forget TA.

Yep ... we love to complain, and frankly it's woven into the fabric of our very state ... no thanks to the politicians that run it. Too many Illinoisans - and especially Illini fans - have practically adopted an element of their personalities that IS someone who is "smart enough to call it like it is" or whatever ... and it just comes across as being constantly negative.

Illinois mishandled the pg position two years in a row. We’ll have to see what the final product is but you can argue they are mishandling the wing and center positions this offseason.

Some skepticism is warranted.

Interesting that Michigan was able to get commitments from 2 centers. Wolf and Golden. I can only assumed that May pulled a Digger Phelps/Laphonso and told Golden that he would play 4.

Still we don't need somebody who can score in paint since we are going 5 out. Just somebody who can defend the paint. It is a shame that Ty is not 3 inches taller. Maybe he should bulk up and become like Anthony Mason of Knicks who used to defend NBA 5's even though he was only 6'8'.

That seems less than optimal... We getting outbid or outrecruited is the question? We should still have a very big bag, perhaps even the biggest on the market based on how little we've likely spent compared to the other big spenders. That said we still have multiple holes remaining so we do likely have more stricter limits based on how much we can spend on any single given player. It'll be interesting where this goes, but at this point, whatever recruiting battles we get into, we're probably going to have to win them and there's going to be a lot more narrow a margin now and probably a higher market price.
If Onyensu is going Alabama then I'd like to see Illinois get involved with Cliff. No reason we can't beat out K-State.

Though maybe there are some other targets entering the portal he shortly but I think Cliff would be a major get if he was surrounded by a bunch of scoring.

I thought bringing in a new assistant coach was the ticket for a big signing soon so where is the big and how soon?

Lot of high scoring players still in NBA draft. 128 on list. I did not see Coleman, probably because he is a senior. There may be more like Coleman who still have 5th year of elgibility.

Most will receive feedback that they will not be drafted. Some will withdraw. Those are the names that our insiders are talking about.

I so agree with this Cliff is a proven quality big. Sure is not a “stretch 5”, but he is an all big 10 defender. I have no idea why we are not all over him?
