Is that really surprising? Domask plays like a 40 year old at the Y who has to ice down his knees after a game.

And I mean that in the best way possible. He was also a 5th year senior and a coaches kid.

Also, I love Coleman for last year but the previous years were up and down. There was also the entire birthday party thing.

Fair point on MD being a coach’s kid and hilarious Y reference. I’m 41 so it hits a little close to home.

According to the insiders, Coleman did a lot of work on his leg this year just to stay on the court. Effort on your body doesn’t necessarily correlate with maturity when their health determines their NIL/pro potential.

Ultimately, I’m glad to know that was the dynamic and couldn’t agree more on the ups and downs.

Yes, Louisville has very little affect on us. I’m not sure it’s a great spot for him. I know they’ve made some good movement but I’m not confident they will still be much of a factor this year.

It's been said a lot that the staff is connected to some five stars in the '25 class...even outside of Riley.

Feel like we shouldn't go "all in", so to speak, on any other five star outside AJ.

For example, if a guy like Meleek Thomas is a take it or lose it - to not take it would simply be stupidity and I'd be thrilled with a guy like that - everyone would be. But if taking him means you won't have enough to keep a guy like Kasparas, Boswell, or Tre, or Morez, (maybe even Riley - who knows...) - no need. Those guys will likely be better than him next year as they become SOPH, JRs, and SRs and he'll just be a freshman. Keep the top guys of what you have.

With AJ though...even if you run into a bit of a crunch...feel like it's worth it. Could very well end up being the NPOY IMO...even though its only been done 3 times as a freshman...and might be one of the best players in the world 5-10 years from now.

But...if taking him and paying him some crazy amount means the NIL will be completely torn up and you won't be able to put together a solid roster outside of him... - def. not worth it.

Maybe as much as Podz blowing up at UCSB hurt us.

Kids frequently improve from year to year. Coleman improved a lot from year 3 to year 4 and he could continue in that trend. Podz of course is on a whole different level and in isolation I don't think his experience looks great for BU. But I also think recruits pay attention to so many other things that it doesn't matter.

I'll add that Coleman was (approximately) the 160 ranked player out of H.S. His performance for us far surpassed that recruiting ranking. He improved significantly while at IL. So that looks good for us. But again, it's one of 10,000 things a recruit might look at.

CoHawk reminds me a great deal of my freshman-year roommate. A sophomore, which tells you something. Guy was, coincidentally, a solid 6'-plus hoopster. Athletically and academically gifted. Among a handful of the smartest people I've ever met. And a completely arrogant, immature, pain-in-the-s$$. It's a wonder I didn't bludgeon him at some point that year.

Love him like a brother, though. He grew up and we keep in touch regularly 40 years later. A couple weeks ago I brought up some ridiculous argument we had that year concerning music. (He was mocking something I was playing on my boom box.) Was rofl'ing about it. His response was brilliant: “Sorry. As someone once noted: 'One of my least favorite people in this world is my 18-year-old self.' ”

My ardent wish for TrollHawk is that he'll have the self-awareness to use that line in ~ 25 years.

Apologies if this has been discussed already (I’ve been hanging out at other places lately), but if Coleman goes somewhere and blows up in his one year, becoming a lottery pick, that could hurt us on the recruiting trail down the road, no?

You won’t have to worry about that. He’s not an alpha. He’s a great role player who is multi faceted.

Are we to the point where we feel slighted when someone who is voluntarily transferring away from the Illini doesn’t get rated highly enough?

You won’t have to worry about that. He’s not an alpha. He’s a great role player who is multi faceted.

If he continues to improve as much as he did between years 3 and 4, he will be a heck of a player, alpha or not. He should go somewhere like UConn where he has a chance to win it all. Make a lot of money and win a championship would be good justifications for a 5th year of college.
