I think we found the solution to ty's shooting.... Morez just gets it off it misses and dunks it. Boom done!

That's if ty doesn't get it himself

Is .9 rebounds per minute a good stat? 🤷

Morez has been clearly the most productive player on the team with the minutes he's been given. He has an efficiency rating of 18. Jacobson is second at 16, and then we're down to 14's for a couple guys. Just reinforces the idea that consistent effort may be the #1 trait for success. Can't wait for him at Illinois!

OTOH Fears showed consistent effort and ended up with a negative efficiency rating for today's game.

I think he was hurt by the rough threes he jacked up in garbage time. He was on the floor so little any efficiency stat need to be taken with a boulder sized grain of salt.

My comparable for Morez is Julian Reese, similiar size and game. Morez reminds me of the traditional PF that played in the NBA 25 years ago. Often found on the rosters of Pacers and Pistons.

It's true, but he shouldn't have been jacking up those threes. He was still good on defense and really helped them on D when USA was struggling to defend in the first quarter. Morez, OTOH, made it so Lloyd was unable to take him off the floor for more than a few minutes.

This is an "eye test" report. I have not seen a box score.

Teams:

Puerto Rico was the first team I've seen this tournament that actually played as a team. They ran offense. They tried team defense. They got a lot of wide open 3 looks. If they could hit them, it would have been a game. They went away from the 3s when they stopped making them. The run that broke open the game was due to a series of careless guard passes out front. The biggest reason for their loss was size. The US team was just too tall for them. A lot of shots were altered and blocked, all the way out to the 3pt line. US players got rebounds above the PR players head even when they had better position.

The US team continues to play like an all star team to the point of two US players fighting each other for a rebound so hard that they both went out of bounds. AAU teams are far better organized and coached than this. Whoever is the "coach" should go.

Refs:
The game was called very tight again. The calls in the first half seemed pretty even. The calls in the second half seemed to heavily favor PR in terms of what they could get away with. I think, despite having fewer fouls called against them, PR fouled out several players, including their primary center. It felt like Morez came in earlier this game after some calls on Jacobson.

Players:

Jacobson was a stud. He altered everything around him. Morez has a better motor. Jacobson's extra 6" do wonders. He shut down the PR inside player (also #15) cold.

Acuff had a better game than the previous two. I'm still not impressed.

McKenney did well on offense. I didn't notice their defense one way or another. I think they did get a few of the lazy guard passes out front for "unearned" steals.

Henderson did well in their time.

Morez:
- A rebounding machine. The numbers will be a bit inflated as several other players (on both sides) had trouble holding on to rebounds. Morez collected a number of the hot potatos despite being out of position initially.
- Defended all the way out to the three point line. His side to side motion looks good for his size.
- Had trouble defending players who had their back to them. It is as if he can't read them.
- Needs to go up harder most of the time. He missed most of the shots he went up soft. The trip down the floor after he got blocked was impressive. There was good footwork, timing, balance, and a statement jam. That should be every trip.

Fears:
- This wasn't his day. The defense wasn't great. Puerto Rico shot over him a few times. He thew up some terrible 3s in frustration. 1/2 of his time was the garbage time at the end. I wonder about the claim of 6'3" (by several inches).

Mine is Chris Webber. Though CWebb had a bit more range from 3 and slightly more nastiness with his athleticism down low, I think their games are very similar. To me, they just play so much alike.

MJ won't be anywhere NEAR the go-to player at Illinois as CWebb was right away at Michigan. But he'll fill up the boxscore simply from his energy play and great athleticism. We are so lucky to have a player coming in with his kind of talent and high motor.

Give a year of college ball and a body by Fletch, then come sophomore time MJ will be a MONSTER!

It's 37-16 USA with 7min to go in the 2nd Quarter. Seems like Canada's players are waiting until college to learn how to shoot a basketball

Also, Jacobsen is going to be a real problem once he puts on some weight. He's got a lot of skill. Do not look forward to sophomore him onwards
From my eye test His defense needs a lot of work, out of position a bit might be due to slow foot work then he’s over reliant on shot blocking to make up for that which is a recipe for cheap fouls.
