While we wait for Riley, may I ask our insiders whether they have any insight on the situation with getting Ivisic over here and enrolled? It sounds like this was always going to be a process? But any reason for concern?
I don't have any insight but I would think that they now know what the holdup or problems were with Zvonomir and avoid them. In other words, learn from the experience that Z had to go through. I assume he shared it/them with TI.

Maybe Liberty underachieved for his ranking, but he averaged 18 and 7 his second and last year at Illinois (Kendall Gill led the BT in scoring that year). His first year, he averaged over 8 PPG off the bench behind all time greats Nick Anderson and Kenny Battle.

As for Hamilton, he was a key member of the Flying Illini averaging over 13 a game.
Where does J Richmond fall on that list, he has to be 1st or 2nd...

Back in the day, landing top 25 recruits was celebrated but not that infrequent.... Going into the wayback machine:

Doug Mills (Parade AA Top 10 1958), Skip Thoren (Parade AA top 20 in 1961), Rich Jones (Parade AA top 10 1964), Nick Weatherspoon (Parade AA top 20 1969), Bill Morris (Parade AA top 20 1970), Audie Matthews (Parade AA top 10 1974), Derek Holcomb (Parade AA top 20 1976), Eddie Johnson (Parade AA top 20 1977), Derek Harper (Parade AA top 10 1980), Efrem Winters (HS top 10 1982) (McD AA MVP), Bruce Douglas (HS top 20 1982) (McD AA), Lowell Hamilton (Parade AA top 10 1985) (McD AA), NIck Anderson (Hoop Scoop #8, Parade AA top 20 1986) (McD AA), Marcus Liberty (Parade AA top 10 1987) (McD AA), Deon Thomas (Parade AA top 10) (McD AA), Richard Keene (Parade AA top 20 1992, Hoop Scoop 13) (McD AA), Kiwane Garris (Parade AA top 30 1993), Bryant Notre (Parade AA top 10 1994), Ryan Blackwell (Parade AA top 10 1995), Marcus Griffin (Parade AA top 20 1997, McD AA), Frank Williams 1998 (21, McD AA), Brian Cook 1999 (McD AA).
.
Not sure Parade Magazine was a great source for quality recruiting info. Some of those rankings seem awfully high...maybe they took into account scholastics and/or leadership qualities.

He doesn't even pretend that he's a threat to shoot the ball. His eyes never get to the rim.

He's super athletic and is phenomenal on the offensive glass, but to say that he's a plus offensively is a stretch and a long one at that.

When we go down the path of being able to finish point blank shots better and increasing your free throw percentage to an acceptable level.....that brings him to a level where he won't hurt you because there is a skill set there. Not having anything else in his bag limits him to bring serviceable at that end of the floor.

If he was a threat to shoot a perimeter jumper, even a little bit, and hits at 25%... that's not great, but it's another layer to his game and more that a defense has to think about. He can't be THAT bad of a shooter, can he?
If he could develop a floater in the lane that would help. Just something for the opponent to have to account for.

I never understood this. Marcus Liberty was the #1 recruit in the country by numerous publications. Surely he had to be top 10.
Morez Johnson Jr is ranked #29 composite. Ayo was ranked #24 composite, Kofi #43. Ayo and Kofi were AA.
Jereme Richmond was #24 also

Does anyone else think TY is our current version of Damonte ? He might be our MVP of the year due to his behind the scene intensity he exhibits in practice on the defensive side . Lead by example . He won’t need to score a point if he can get the rest of the team to try to match his level of intensity on defense

I think this true and also part of the issue. Ty came in with a higher rank, taller, more athletic than pre ACL DMW, with a more well rounded skill set.

While taking absolutely nothing away from what dmw was for us on the court, Ty is supposed to be more than that. Off the court, anybody can be that culture guy, and every team needs those guys. It’s an extremely important role to play. But the on the court promise of Ty was supposed to be higher. He’s still got time, but with perspective, he’s underperformed. Still love him tho.

I thought so too, but according to 247 he’s actually 7th. The current 1st and 2nd are MJ and Ayo, so Riley would definitely be the highest and first consensus 5 star.

I believe Nick Smith was the Florida Parade magazine player of the year...which may tell you all you need to know about Parade magazine.

He did shoot a floater at times and did ok with it but still doesn't change the fact that beyond 8-10 feet he is simply not a threat to score.

Yep, that 5 might make an awfully good starting five some day.

It brings up a question I have wondered about for some time: the staff's seeming change of emphasis from, over the last few seasons, "getting old" to this year focusing on bringing in a lot of much younger players is interesting. Has this apparent change of philosophy been discussed on Loyalty and I just somehow missed it?

Lmao Tea leaves saying we might land literally our highest ranked recruit in 40 years and all of a sudden the same people who 1 month ago were screaming that we have utterly failed this offseason because we didn't land some 2-guard from the MAC , are now nitpicking Riley's game and fretting about whether he'll be able to play in the B1G.

Never change Loyalty, never change :ROFLMAO:
If Riley isn’t ranked as a ‘24 anywhere (is he?), not sure this statement holds true.
