Guenther was responsible for losing Self and hiring bad football coaches. He was small-minded and failed the University’s sports programs consistently.
88-126-2 for the Football Guy. He's in the Illini Hall of Fame which is an insult.

Hope the Illini will be rollin' down the Carefree Highway.

All I gotta say is leave my name off the Lovie Smith thank you card. Guy sucked as a CFB coach and the product on the field was a massive embarrassment. Let's just celebrate Bret and his actual success rather than trying to retrofit silly narratives
Ditto! Minus the 2006 and 2010 season, he sucked as the Bears HC. 2006 could've ended differently if he kept Orton as the QB. He never should've rested the starters in the final regular season game in 2010. It's pretty bad when your stated #1 goal is to beat GB, but you rest your starters and lose...allowing them into the playoffs. Then we proceed to get taken out by them just shy of the Superbowl, which we would have smoked Pittsburgh.

It doesn't matter if a given active player or coach was a part of these games or not; this should piss everyone off enough to want to absolutely destroy Purdue on Saturday, especially given the whole Walters situation on top of it:

ILLINI LAST 10 GAMES VS. PURDUE ... 2-8
2023: Purdue 44, Illinois 19 in West Lafayette, IN (Walters embarrasses us in first matchup)
2022: Purdue 31, #21 Illinois 24 in Champaign, IL (cost us the Big Ten West title and a trip to Indy)
2021: Purdue 13, Illinois 9 in West Lafayette, IN (blowing this lead ended up being one of the games that cost us bowl eligibility in Bret's first season)
2020: Purdue 31, Illinois 24 in Champaign, IL
2019: Illinois 24, Purdue 6 in West Lafayette, IN
2018: Purdue 46, Illinois 7 in Champaign, IL (we actually started a decent 3-2 this season and had just won at Rutgers the week before in a blowout ... and Purdue embarrassed us in Champaign, setting the tone for the year, as we would win ONE game after this)
2017: Purdue 29, Illinois 10 in West Lafayette, IN
2016: Purdue 34, Illinois 31 in OT in Champaign, IL
2015: Illinois 48, Purdue 14 in West Lafayette, IN
2014: Purdue 38, Illinois 27 in Champaign, IL (we'd end up bowling this year, but losing to Purdue at home while we were sitting at 3-2 really sent us on a skid)

If you think that looks bad, we have not beat Purdue in Champaign since 2010. That is 14 years without beating the Boilermakers on our own home field, going 0-6 in that timeframe. Payback is DEARLY needed on Saturday.

This entire post is ridiculous, IMO. Why everyone has such a love for the backup QB is beyond me. Grossman was a better option than Orton, and they won two games in the playoffs with Grossman up to the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl just sucked because of how bad the weather was. This is revisionist history to assume the Bears win the Super Bowl with Orton, when there is a chance they lose earlier in the postseason with Orton (and if that happened people would complain that they played the backup instead of the healthy starter).

Regarding 2010, wow. If one of the major starters gets hurt in the last game, which had no bearing on Bears standings, all would have been up in arms. Sure the Bears lost to the Packers in 2010 Champ Game, but Cutler got hurt early in the 2nd half (the Bears were not beating anyone with the backup QBs they put in). I believe the Bears win that game if his knee stayed healthy.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to criticize Lovie as a coach, but all of the above are bad reasons, IMO.

Those are the keywords, right there. I have a hard time believing Orton would've turned it over 6 TIMES! The announcers joked throughout the season if it'd be "good Rex" or "bad Rex". We got "terrible Rex" in the SB. Yet again, his STATED #1 goal was to beat GB. Why have a goal if you don't follow through? Either way, he's a horrible coach and I'm glad he's gone.

Insanity. There is no reason this should be such a one-sided rivalry. Especially when they have been god-awful in many of these wins against us. Hopefully that ends, and we never look back.

I am sorry, but this is again ridiculous. Orton was not a great QB; to say the team would have played better with him in the postseason is uncertain. The Bears offense was more of a threat with Grossman. It is Monday morning QB'ing to just assume the Bears win with a caretaker QB of Orton. A lot of the Super Bowl turnovers were due to the very wet conditions. Grossman did not perform well, but to suggest that Orton would have won is also a stretch.

Lovie's first goal when hired was to beat GB, he accomplished that. After that, the goal is to win the Super Bowl! To put one relatively meaningless regular season game ahead of the big goal of winning the Super Bowl is sacrilege. You are twisting what Lovie said in his opening press conference to fit your pre-conceived agenda.

Darrell Hazell went 3-24 in the Big Ten, with two of the three wins coming in Champaign.

Hazell won more Illinois-Purdue games at Memorial Stadium than Zook, Beckman, Cubit, Lovie and Bielema combined.

That's funny, I don't recall him saying "beat them once". His goal was to beat them EVERYTIME. We will obviously never agree on this...so I'm done. Good day sir.

I'll take Purdue and the 22.5 points this week. I'll also take over the 49 total pts. I watched the entire Penn State game and I saw a distinct talent difference on the field that night. We have a nice ball club, but I don't think we're New Year's Day good quite yet.

30 ILL
21 PUR

(4-1 against the spread; 5-0 in picking the correct winner).
If it's that close, Michigan will beat us the following week
