I’ll take a stab…because this doesn’t exactly bode well for actual tough teams still on the schedule…and we’ve seen these mid to late season tailspins and nosedives before? (I really wanted 8…maybe 9 wins at least…but I dunno…we sure have been exposed.)

But I certainly feel your pain and understand the sentiment. I feel sick too.

I think the shock is starting to wear off. I've heard of people saying they were literally shaking, but that's the first time I've been that amped up at the end of a game that I didn't attend.

I thought it made sense. With no more than 2 possessions left, that thirteenth point of a lead rarely matters (only when the other team coverts two two-point conversions and leaves you enough time for a last second field goal try). A fourteenth point is almost always big. Does the chance of making an eighteen yard 2-point conversion exceed the chance of a thirteenth point lead being more useful than a 12 point lead? Yeh, maybe.

Altmyer having a great year. For the first time in a long while qb play has been one of the biggest strengths. WRs are legit. Running backs did ok today. I think their issues stem from o line, which is looking like it’s a talent issue.

What happened to the defense? Everyone says Henry, and that might be a part (tough know WHY coaches make the calls they do), but they just don’t have the talent of the 2022 team on that side of the ball. Toughness, coaching, and discipline all have to be present to make up for that, and something in that formula was lacking in the second half.

I’ll end with glass half full….. 5-1 and Altmyer having a great season. Probably best since kittner

I walked my dogs right after the game to let this simmer. My prediction, we won't be thinking about this once reality sets in that we are going to have amazing uniforms on next week against Michigan with a real shot to win.

What I just can't get over is our student section. That was embarrassing. They should be embarrassed. Some of these kids have had 2 great years of the past 3 and last year wasn't a compete disaster. I've been a fan for my 42 years here on this earth. This is an absolute gift to be able to root for a winning team on the football field. Don't squander these memories.

4th and Goal from the 18 is an EXTREMELY low percentage play. 5% max. That changes the two point math a ton, you're giving up serious expected value which you should never do unless you're forced to by an end game scenario (which this was not, there were 5 mins left)

The thing about two point math generally, going for it at the 2 yard line is above 50% (for most teams in most contexts, generally speaking). It's a positive expected value play. That's why the nerds believe the optimum strategy is to just go for it every time.

Just got into the car in lot 31 after the game. Haven’t read anything in the game thread or this thread. Just want to say that I’ll happily take this ‘W.’ Some in the pregame thread called this a trap game; they were correct. I can only imagine how negative the game thread is. I’ve got to say the crowd who stayed after half was fantastic. Over half the students and part of the crowd left with that big lead, thinking the game was in the bag. As disappointing and nerve wracking as the game was, I’m still proud of our Illini. Luke to Pat in overtime and Rosiek with the sack on the extra points try were outstanding. Winners proof. Again, I’ll take the ‘W!’ We’re 5-1. VICTORY, Illinois, Varsity.

Did anyone else notice that Xavier Scott didn’t play at all in the second half and Seth Coleman didn’t come back after he was sent off for injury. I think that had a pretty big effect on the defense. We only had 1 captain come out for the overtime coin toss. I am assuming he was the only one healthy enough. That’s a lot of on field leadership to lose.
