so did Chester Frazier. Unfortunately for these great players, the coaches couldn't recruit very well and forced these Illinois recruits to be offensive players despite that part of there game still needing development.
For 3 years, Frazier basically allowed teams to play 5 on 4 when we were on offense because he was such a non-factor. So I had pretty ambivalent feelings about him at that point because his defense was just incredible to watch. But then in his final year he was able to score more consistently and I don't think most of the fan base ever fully gave him credit for that.

I still think the blueprint is a Trent Frazier.

Find the kids with above average scoring and shooting skills, then tell them to learn defense or else.

Those uniforms were awful. Not Gray Ghost awful, but still awful.
College basketball jerseys in general were pretty awful in that era.

I remember a bunch of schools that basically just had printed under armour compression shirts as their Jersey(Ohio State was a prime offender).

This whole situation is irritating. We're a few days before a pretty high profile scrimmage and a couple of weeks before the lights are on for real and there's absolutely nothing in either direction on him. The staff is shrugging their shoulders when it comes to his status. With OA being on the bench with his brother and seeing how far into the season that ran into.....we should have known that this was a very real outcome with Tomi.

I have to believe that this was a known issue from the jump and that we were prepared for it. Leaning on a true Freshman, with no depth behind him, doesn't seem like we were prepared for it. Freshmen have a habit of doing freshmen things with #1 on that list being cheap and and often lazy(slapping) fouls. That just comes with the territory of being able to stuff everyone in HS to playing against grown men in college.

Our paint production/protection is going to be a sore spot early on. I hope this gets resolved sooner rather than later.

Totally different situation than Ivisic.

But it raises the question of an equivalent situation: has KJ been cleared to play?

I didn't see why there would be any issues with him or Demin but looks like there was some process in Demin's case?

Some guys can be coached toward this goal. A surprising number struggle with that assertion of : "learn defense or else."

Figuring out which of the guys you are recruiting will respond to that direction is one of the real tricky parts of being a successful coach.
