Personally, I think to get the nation to buy into us as a top 10 team and legit CFP contender, we will need to win by at least a touchdown, if not more. Anything else, on like a last second FG or something, then I think most of the nation would think that it was nothing more than a fluke win.

Huh?

Fluke win or not, if we beat Oregon this weekend, we’re probably ranked in the top 10… and wouldn’t even put top 5 out of the question.

7–1 with FOUR top 25 wins, including the #1 team on the road, and the only loss being to the current #3 (who would move up to #2 or #1) would be insane to even question CFP contender at that point.

EDIT: saw your second post. Okay, yeah, that makes more sense. Still think we’d be way more in the conversation though.

As 21 point underdogs, any win would be considered a massive upset, immediately launching us into the midst of all CFP discussions.

Now, now. Coach Zupp is feeling appropriately fine this week since he predicted in August we'd be 6-1 and got savagely dogpiled for it. He's allowed artistic license advocating for the all-whites. ;)

Speaking of which, the initial response to IowaHawk's tweet below is: "The preferred beer for Oregonians is meth" (apologies to our Illini brethren residing in The Beaver State.) The state beverage, it turns out, is actually milk.

(The most common reply to the post below so far is something along the lines of "Wait until they find out about Wisconsin.")

Are you being sarcastic? This has the be a joke.

If you beat the #1 team in the country, on the road, it would probably qualify as the best win of any team in college football. The final score or how we arrived at it is moot.

Two of my favorite Illini! Rocky's game against michigan was a classic... him jumping sideways into the endzone at the end. problem was he kept scoring too soon and giving the ball back!
On his last touchdown, if he would’ve just dropped before reaching the end zone, Illinois could’ve just run out the clock. Instead, his score gave us an 8 point lead, keeping the door open for Michigan and, following a safety on an interception, Michigan actually had a chance to win.

Here's my thoughts on uniforms. 2007 shoes, socks, pants, jersey, and helmets. Matter of fact sneak JJ Leman in uniform to help our linebackers. Worked against #1 Ohio St. on the road.
It's throwback history year, let's roll.

I do have to admit that this is really funny, primarily because any meme involving John Daly in his wild pants puffing on a cigarette has a great chance of being funny.

And yes, our friends on the West Coast have no idea about Wisconsin fans. Those people are Olympians when it comes to tailgating (speaking from two years of living near Madison, WI).

Wisconsin and the arrowhead of Minnesota, I expected. lol Iowa. The best part is that the Univ. of Wisconsin produced this map, I assume as a public health initiative.

how about them Utes. No fun allowed there.

I’ll take traditional Midwest beer drinkers over the high brow Oregonian beer drinkers. No competition.

Yeah, if this OregonHomer person is indicative of the fanbase as a whole…I’d have to say they’re just not very good at this are they? (Talking smack/trolling I mean…not football) Anyways, not remotely accurate and Lame!

Wisconsin to Illinois residents is like Oregon is to Californians. The place up North you go to be in nature and drink to excess.
Then Oregon begins not far north of San Francisco based on my extensive travel through coastal northern CA in the '90s.

What’s wrong with drinking microbrews? I’d like to think that in my advancing age, I’m becoming more discerning with my beer choices.

Among my many heroes on that 2001 team (the first year I was old enough to truly pay attention and follow the team) Rocky Harvey might be tops. Great football name, undersized, tough as nails. Everyone rightly remembers the Michigan game in '99 but he also ripped off the winning score in the 2001 Penn State game.

The opposite happened with me. I spent a lot of my 20s mostly drinking craft beer, but anymore I can't stand anything besides beer-flavored beer. If I'm feeling fancy I'll get Montucky Cold Snacks (y)
