And big ten regular season. There’s a segment of people in this country that only believe March Madness matters. If you don’t have a national championship, everything else is irrelevant. Obviously we know that isn’t the case.
Exactly. The whole season matters, not just March Madness.

It's not that only March matters. But March matters more. If you don't want to take my word for it, look at the rafters in the SFC. Our Final Four banners are bigger and more distinct than the B1G banners and they're hung in their own special location. One day we'll have a Natty to put there and you better believe it'll be our greatest source of pride.

I worked with a guy from Seattle, grew up here, who didn’t cheer for the UW Huskies, he cheered for North Carolina. 2005 was not fun being around that guy. He swore he wasn’t a bandwagoner, that he’d chosen them off TV as a kid despite never setting foot in the state or having any connection to UNC other than watching games. And that this was legitimate fandom.

I remain skeptical

We do? There are MANY (here) that had Brad on the hot seat if he didn't get to the second weekend last year.

While I'm in agreement with you regarding the NCAA Tournament not bring the be all end all, it can make or break a coaches careers.

That tournament is the focal point of the season. We have guys like Lunardi and Palm who are putting brackets together in June. Before the season starts, we have people here projecting our seed and if someone's projection isn't better than 8....they're ridiculed. So yes, it happens here too....a lot.

Let’s be 80% Fab Five. He could have 4 out of 5. Riley. Ivisic. Jakucionis. Morez Johnson and then Boswell as a junior

Don’t give up your day job for slogan writing. We’re 80% Fab Five doesn’t have much of a ring to it.

I've been in Central Illinois my entire 39 years. I hate Chicago everything.

Therefore:

Illini
Cardinals
...
.....
Cowboys sort of. (I don't really care about the NFL.)
If you're motivated by distaste for Chicago, how are you not a Packers fan (at least casually)?

#86
Chicago area Packers fan here. How? I jumped on the bandwagon in the Bart Starr Superbowls I and II era. Never jumped off, so I feel OK with it now. 🙂
That's what my dad did, then I simply inherited his Packers fandom as a kid since there was no NFL franchise in St. Louis when I was growing up.

Illini basketball
Illini football
Cardinals baseball
Blues hockey
Packers football

Moved away before St. Louis had a soccer team and I never really followed NBA.

Yeah, my 4 years in Champaign were fun. Ha.

I'm not sure if anyone else has this concern, but I don't see anyone on our roster that's overly athletic or explosive. Maybe Morez?

The SEC teams coming up are going to be wildly athletic. Last year, guys like CH, Ty and TJ were all unique and explosive athletes. This year, it's early but I haven't seen anyone jump off the page.
No one on this team was overly or explosive, but they did OK. And yes, I'm dating myself . . .

This is the worst. Picking a team off tv. WTAF. After growing up in CU and moving to Nebraska, I knew lots of Husker football fans that were Duke/UNC/KU basketball fans. I gave those people a ton of crap, because that's weak sauce. You are a fan or you're not. Take the good with the bad.

no matter the outcome, this is a great game for a new and pretty young team. that Bama will be pissed is all the better. needless to say, we'd better be ready. great test, really looking forward to it

No offense to your friend, but this is grounds for revoking one's Man Card, haha. As my dad once said, "being a sports fan builds character ... especially when you cheer for teams from our state." The bandwagoners not only look cringe and unprincipled ... they miss out on SO much of the meaningfulness of sports. The highs mean a lot more when you feel like you have been a part of the journey through all of the lows, and cheering for a team is a lot more fun if you feel like you have an actual REASON to support that team (e.g., being an alum, cheering for your state flagship team, cheering for a school your parent went to, etc.).
I’d say being a cowboys fan for the last 30 probably built a little character. They’ve won 4 playoff games since 1996. None past the Divisional round.

Same exact thing but in Chicago. Worked with a guy for years and never heard him mention UNC. Come 2005 and it’s all powder blue and go Tar Heels. Said he’d followed them for years. Gave him holy hell in the lunchroom one day about it.

They were all good to great defensive players. Our current guys haven't proven that against good competition. From what I see so far defense is an issue for at least a couple of our key guys. I hope that Humrichous in particular develops this aspect of his game.

I'm not sure who is/was more messed up - my high school best friend or me.

My lineup
Illini
Baseball Cardinals
Packers
Bulls
Maple Leafs
Sporting KC (But after some things I've learned about SKC's academy through my son's teammate who used to be in that academy, I'm likely switching MLS allegiance either to Minnesota or St. Louis).

My buddy's lineup
Illini
Dodgers
Cowboys
Lakers
Atlanta United (he lives pretty close to ATL now)

I can't really give him crap about being a bandwagon fan. We've know each other since we were 10 years old, and he's always been a fan of those teams.

Yeah, and Ainge and McHale never committed a foul. Amazing defense.
