On the previous thread, someone alluded to Bielema’s experience at Arkansas. Was he dealing with insane boosters there constantly pressuring him? It sounds like some of you have more details around what happened there, could you share?

Btw, couldn’t be more thrilled to have Bret, just curious as to what happened there. I remember being shocked when he left Wisconsin where he had a Top 5-10 program and never understood the appeal of Arkansas outside of money and coaching in the SEC West.

I would be apoplectic right now if I were a Purdue fan
I'm sure Purdue fans turned off the football and turned on basketball the second the basketball season started.

Sounds like Walters is also a jerk, so I'd imagine the only thing that keeps him around is the fact that his buyout is $9.5+ M. Does Purdue have the donors willing to pony up that kind of dough on the football side?

He had 3 winning seasons in 5 years at Arkansas. That’s something they would kill for now. Their fan base acts like he was their version of Ryan Walters

The buy out plus revenue sharing are all factors. Then after you buy out his staff you have to pay the new staff. I say we let him run their program even further into the ground.

I still think they are actively working on a negotiated settlement with him, if the stories of him having an affair with a secretary are true .

IF they fire him today or tomorrow , and IF they hire the right guy this time , it will take them at least 3 years to recover from this

Cignettis luck and skill at this one year miracle turn around is not a new norm . and IU won’t repeat it next year either
Illinois and Indiana ascendant makes the Purdue rebuild a bit tougher.

I'm not sure the B1G has been tougher top to bottom than it is now. Leave out Purdue and there's not an easy game on the schedule.

He gone … This was decided weeks ago … Results on the field are what they are but this has as much if not more to do with how he conducted himself off the field …
So it seems the question is about how much is the buyout. People were talking for cause but this delay suggests there may be a compromise. Reduced buyout instead of a public airing of dirt.

It was discussed at the time, but now with the benefit of hindsight, Walters wasn't really qualified to be a Big 10 head coach in the first place.

He gets credit for our 2022 defense that was unforgettable, magical, and I still think underappreciated nationally, but objectively it was the outlier on a very limited resume.
