Someone just needs to square the circle that Ben Johnson is soaking up all the knee-biting leaderism!Dan Campbell being the NFL's new coaching archetype is a bad and dangerous mix with Da Bears Brain.
They can never get everyone pulling in the same direction at the same time.Is it even a real Bears coaching search if the owner or president isn’t undercutting his GM by imposing a shotgun marriage with the new coach? It’s a tradition as old as time. Or at least as old as the mid-70s.
Next we’ll need to hamstring the new coach by forcing him to take a legacy coordinator on his staff as a condition of taking the job.
Well laid out. They can never get everyone pulling in the same direction at the same time.
They let a lame duck GM trade draft capital to draft fields for a lame duck head coach. The new coach and GM then aren’t invested in Fields’ success.
In the interim their president retires and they hire a new president who isn’t invested in the new coach or GM’s success.
They ship out Fields and draft Williams but keep a lame duck head coach.
And now the new president who isn’t invested in the GM’s success wants to hire a head coach who will likely have differing philosophies on schemes, player fits etc. than the GM. But the new coach has no incentives to cooperate with the GM because the GM’s boss hired the coach, not the GM.
And so it goes…

If you had told me 20 years ago how little pro sports I watch now, I would not have believed you.I stopped watching the Bears a few years ago because of ownership. They’ve abused us for too long. I didn’t switch to another team…I just no longer watch the NFL.

Warren did get Arlington Heights to cave on the property tax issue the other week, in fairness.yup . this has sh!t show written all over it
as if Warren is doing such a great job with the stadium project
my lord
This sounds like a Mike Vrabel type hire, which I'd be fine with, as long as they hire coordinators that can actually do their jobs and not have the HC yank the playbook. This only works if the McCaskey's open up the wallet to get a good head coach and really good assistants.![]()

I genuinely wonder if that's the intention for what Warren did. If that's the case, it's a pretty low maneuver and one that's clearly designed to force Poles' hand to resign. This sounds like a Mike Vrabel type hire, which I'd be fine with, as long as they hire coordinators that can actually do their jobs and not have the HC yank the playbook. If I were Poles, I'd resign immediately. He's been emasculated publicly that he's not allowed the do his job. He's got no ties to Warren, so he's pretty much one season from an axe.
Get out ASAP.
Hasn't ND been objectively worse since he took over for Brian Kelly?ND’s Marcus Freeman also qualifies as this “leader of men” type:

It can’t be financed in Arlington Heights.Warren did get Arlington Heights to cave on the property tax issue the other week, in fairness.
I remain convinced that's where it will end up.
They absolutely cannot go the college direction again.ND’s Marcus Freeman also qualifies as this “leader of men” type:

Don't think that's accurate. His first season started out disastrously at 0-2, but he rallied to win 9 games , then 10 games the following season, and is 11-1 this season (yes their one loss was a real clunker, but early in the season).Hasn't ND been objectively worse since he took over for Brian Kelly?
It can't be financed anywhere, so they're going to have to come up with more money regardless of where they go. Pritzger isn't going to give them a nickel and the only group that thinks Brandon Johnson is worth a salt is the Chicago Teachers Union. Given what occurred November 5th, both of those guys have MUCH more on their plate to deal with than a stadium. It can’t be financed in Arlington Heights.
I never got the impression that Warren is anything but a company admin guy, and really not a football personnel guy --> players , coaches or GMThey absolutely cannot go the college direction again.
This is a locker room that is going to be fractured by year end(if not already) and there are a couple of very strong personalities in the roster, not to mention a second year QB that is going to be in desperate need of structure. How many voices will have been in his ear calling plays after this year? Three?
With all of the brutal pre-snap penalties on offense, guys apparently not knowing the rules and making the same mistake multiple times(Kmet), receivers not completing their routes or coming back for the ball(Moore), jumping offsides on hard counts, etc.....they really require a guy who is respected and can instill structure and discipline.
This is not an indictment on Freeman. There is not one college coach that's going to come in and demand that type of immediate respect. There is no Harbaugh caliber presence available.
Will they spend money and can they find a guy who will be working for a potentially lame duck GM. We've all said this for years now and it hasn't happened, but can they align the President, with the GM, with the HC and with the coordinators, so there isn't turnover.....again.
To me, that requires either a full commitment to Poles or fire him at the end of the year.
Poles is not a Kevin Warren hire. I think that Warren wants his choice of a GM and his GM is going through want to choose his HC and his HC is going to want his choice of coordinators.
Will this happen? Answer..... there isn't a snowball's chance in he!! that they create a solid structure and spend the money needed to do it correctly. It's not the McCaskey way.

Been said in other places here, but who at the start of the season had NIU as the only blemish on an otherwise perfect ND record?Don't think that's accurate. His first season started out disastrously at 0-2, but he rallied to win 9 games , then 10 games the following season, and is 11-1 this season (yes their one loss was a real clunker, but early in the season).
Sagarin has ND as the #1 team in the country. Don't think they are the best team, but they are pretty good. In three years he's delivered solid results. Kelly's last three seasons were great, but he also delivered some clunkers, like 4-8 in 2016.
