I wonder if the Sledge/Brooks experience is going to push Bielema further away from former blue chip preps / P4 players looking for playing time (outside of QB).
You might add Luke Ford to that. I'm certain he'll be more careful in his evaluation. But it's not wise to make blanket assessments based on a couple of experiences.

Fans, especially on our basketball board, love to imagine the five star HS from two years ago is just a new environment away from all-American status. Not unheard of, but the best evaluation you can make is the last season.

(1) I do wonder if adding two prep RBs means the staff won't add someone next year? Expectation of a defection?

(2) This should completely shut the door on adding a portal RB.

(3) What's the impetus for moving Feagin again? His athleticism isn't popping off the charts? He's been solid at RB. Linebacker suddenly looks a lot better than a couple weeks ago with Kreutz, Hood, Beerman, and a likely portal add. Would love to come back next season with Feagin, McCray, Laughery, and Valentine as dependable RB options.
Feagin would be a olb unlike the one's you mentioned

When he played he wasn’t good.
Yeahhhhhh, there's still no way there isn't more to the Brooks situation than that. Looks like he suited up for only 7 games and played very spot snaps. He was pretty good is the 1st game for the like 2 series he was in. After that though, yeah, he had a couple blown coverages I can remember but that was already several games in so difficult to judge fully with so few snaps.

The biggest indicator for me is how Bret talked about him. He could've said something like Brooks is getting used to our system or schemes, working on getting him up to speed after a short summer etc etc. But Bret seemed to target his consistency and effort, something that Bret rarely rarely ever does, so much so it was noticeable. It very much sounded like someone who wasn't putting in the time or seriousness to learn the playbook and study the film. He was pretty much last on the depth chart, and that seems like doghouse level more than a kid playing his butt off and just not performing. I guess we'll find out a little more once he officially transfers.

TE from Maroa is a sleeper. Tall and super athletic. I had a chance to watch Carson Boyd at the beginning of this hs season. He has an arm that not many humans can think possible. The velocity and angles he throws on the field are phenomenal. I'll take a Drew Brees from Cardinal Ritter High. Brayden Trimble will come in and work his backside off to succeed.

Luke ford was solid but didn’t live up to his rankings. We’ve had a lot more success with guys who excelled at the g4 level. Most guys that are busts at big time program will be a bust at their next stop.

He isn’t suited to play man coverage. They took a gamble on the talent but it wasn’t a good fit.

I agree. HS rank means nothing once you are in school for a year or two and coaches can see whether you can play or not. There’s a reason Tip Reiman played over Luke Ford. One guy was a 3rd rd NFL pick and the other was done after his collegiate career ended

Has the kid from Guilford in Rockford committed to anyone yet?

nope. this is one we need to win. Tilson is straight out of central casting for CBs. Michigan plucked Hill out of Kankakee 3-4 years ago. can't let that happen again (not singling out Michigan here). huge statement recruit, IMO. really hope we can keep Coach Parker for another season

I remember joking with my players that a starter from “almighty texas” couldn’t crack the rotation at little old Illinois.

They were like that dude was always getting burned!

They were right

he has excellent top end speed, especially for a huge guy. but it takes him too long to get through the hole. and he doesn't have a lot of wiggle. for him to be the difference maker he was thought to be, he needs to hit the hole faster
I have wondered if it's him or if it is a result of our offense. To me it takes all of our RB to much time to get to the LOS.

Run blocking was a problem for the line all year. Just not getting much push up front and allowing too much penetration. Kaden is the type of back that would do really well with a bruising punishing line that we just didn't have this year, where he has time to build up a head of steam and plow LBs instead of most downs being forced to take on DLs before even reaching the line of scrimmage. Valentine looked better because he has better acceleration and great cut back vision to find a hole, which is what needed to happen with the blocking issues.

Feagin just wasn't well suited for dealing with the inadequacies our line had in run blocking this year, but with improved run blocking, I think he could be instrumental in wearing down the opponent at the second level where they start becoming very susceptible to Laughery's speed and Valentine's shifting and cut backs. Feagin's just not the guy you want operating out of a phone booth a yard in the backfield

Seeing Illinois/Bryant beat Rutgers @Rutgers probably gave him something to think about. Followed by Laughery running through Northwestern.
Forster didn't like that Rutgers was recruiting another RB in the same class. With Monangai gone and Sam Brown dealing with his second significant injury in 3 years, Rutgers sought additional help. When it became clear Rutgers would flip Wake Forest commit Terrell Mitchell, it was the final straw for Forster. He thought he would be the only RB in the class, and that was true until Rutgers realized Brown may call it quits. Forster de-committed was expected more than a week ago, but he didn't officially announce it until Mitchell announced publicly he would sign with Rutgers.
