Maybe not but Marcus Domask was also at a mid-level MVC program(SIU is a long ways from their glory days).

I'm not expecting Hun to be Domask but Domask also had a bit of a slow start and didn't really get going to until January(outside of the FAU game).
Breathing the words "Marcus Domask" anywhere close to the same sentence as "Ben Humrichous" shows a complete misunderstanding of the backgrounds of both players. Marcus Domask was all conference MVC multiple seasons. Ben never achieved anything close to that.

Humrichous should never see the floor again. Awful at both ends of the floor.

We are at a point where we do not need transfers from mid-level MVC programs.

Get down from the ledge.

1)Marcus Domask says hello. Dalton Knect says hello, etc. Hitting the mid majors in the portal are a requirement in today's game. They've taken the place of a high school seniors.

2)Ben had a TERRIBLE game shooting the ball, but he's going to have nights where he's 6-10. Can't throw a guy under the bus for a poor shooting night. I think that Riley was 0-6 from three and they doesn't have taken into account the circus layups that he missed terribly.

3)Defensively, I agree. He got ISO'd all night. That said, so did KJ. Neither guy provided much resisted when getting backed in. That's an area that needs to be addressed because both Ben, KJ and Riley are going to be targets.

That’s a bad loss to a team who may not win 5 B1G games this year.

We are talented…but we are young.

Suspect this won’t be our last ‘bad’ loss this year.
That's not a "bad" loss. We were only 3 points favorites going in. A tight game was not unexpected outside of those living outside of reality. This is going to end up, at worst, a quad 2 loss. It stings because it was winnable and we were up 10 with ten minutes to go, but this won't be a red mark at year's end.

Of MUCH bigger concern is the reason we lost. There are most definitely areas of concern and for me, it's on the defensive end.

I mean, they are both white, have great hair, and played at Illinois. Basically the same guy.

Come March they’ll be scary!

Lose at home to Iowa scary, or beat Duke in NY scary?

Whatever, I’m still wearing my Fighting Illini Christmas pajamas to bed.

My response was solely based on people complaining that we shouldn't be recruiting guys out of the MVC.

Obviously the MVC has lost a lot of talented programs but it's still a decent mid major conference.

I'm well aware the Domask had 4 very good years in the MVC and was an impact player as a freshman at SIU while I believe Hum was a d2 guy or something until last year. Though Riley Minix was also a d2 guy and is playing in the NBA so you can pretty much find talent at every level.

The loss tonight doesn't bother me nearly as much as the absence of a serious offensive scheme. (Though this loss DOES bother me, a lot). Threes 'R Us isn't going to work, all by itself. We need to get some easier shots on some possessions.
Post of the night and what should be the takeaway. 34 threes is too many. If we're going to be a team that's going to ride or die with three points shooting....it's going to be a rough year.

We are a good team right now. Not elite. Doesn't mean our program isn't elite. This year has shades of 02-03.

We 100% have the ability to win our next two games.

I think it was under 30 seconds, but there was about a 9-10 second difference in game vs shot clock. So it seemed like we were gonna play it out, but then fouled an 87% FT shooter to go to the line.
I was at the game and this made me insane. Can someone explain this? Being down 1 with about a 15 seconds between shot clock and game clock, why foul an 87% shooter?? Any explanations?

It created a snowball effect because it was our 9th foul, so when we NEEDED to foul, NW was in the double bonus, which is a far less stressful situation to the shooter.

Did I miss that in the post game?

1. Ben more than deserves criticism for being too slow on close-outs. A time or two in the first half he didn’t even get his hand up/attempt to contest the shot…as it was being hoisted. On the flip side he often plays solid on-ball defense down low.

2. I agree that Ben should have played less minutes in favor of Morez. But can we agree there’s a lot of blame to go around? Kylan, Will…(still hoping Tre steps up)…Brad….even KJ’s performance was a mixed bag. Tomi was the only one I’d say definitely had a good game.

3. If you wanna be pissed at Ben for his laziness on D…okay…I’m with ya. But you can’t just give up on a good shooter…(and he obviously is a good shooter)…because he has one horrendous shooting night. I don’t remember this much vitriol directed toward Matthew Mayer; when he shot us out of A NUMBER of games…I also seem to remember he generally played crappy defense…unless you wanna count the blocks he got…(usually after he got beat off the dribble)

4.) Our team communication on defense leaves a lot to be desired.

5.) I don’t get why we melted down so much over this game? I mean it royally sucks. But this meltdown level, nearly trumps the Loyola loss…I believe it’s hovering around 3rd loss to Penn State in that ridiculous Rec. Gym levels. AND that really WAS bad…awful.

6.) Indy, I appreciate all of the info you provide. But I’m starting to think you might be an agent who represents Sean Miller and Stephen Gentry.

As I said in previous post. He'll be hitting portal clearing 500k to 800k and 18 and 10 next year. I can see if Coach is concerned about foul trouble and having Tomi in game Morez on bench. Each game is different. Neither were in trouble, our best stretch was when both Morez and Tomi in the game. Humdinger on bench, Kj, Will, and Boswell. Or Dgl for either Will or Boswell.

I jokingly told my brother in law before the game (NW grad) I could truly see Brad wanting to lose this game to have an excuse to humble them after Arkansas.

I was either right or he had a stroke tonight. Morez should only come off the floor when he says he needs breather.

Morez had 6 points 5 boards in 11 minutes and his hair is on fire on defense. Ben had 3 points and 5 rebounds in 39 minutes and is a revolving door. Someone please make it make sense.

For all of Underwood’s positive qualities, his biggest red flag is he’s incredibly stubborn. We saw this in the UConn game last season when he kept his team going right at Clingan when he was allowed to foul with impunity.

I get a coach can’t listen to external parties and wants to hold to an identity, but sometimes you have to look at reality. In this case, reality is easy to see.

NIL investments will only make this worse, as few coaches understand the sunk cost fallacy. That’s why I was so shocked when the Giants actually benched Daniel Jones so soon after his contract extension.

1. The Mild Cats had more fight than the hapless Illini. Martinelli owned KJ in 2nd half.
2. Boswell 3 blown layups. last one would have won game in regulation. Missed 2 free throws late that would have won game in reg.
3. Why oh Why are we taking 7 days off this early in the year? It will happen again before Mizzou game. Shooting eye was full of rust.
4. What does Humrichous contribute? I thought he was a great shooter? very soft on defense.
5. Hi/Lo seemed to work with Ivisic and Johnson, why did they stop? Ivisic too much dribbling at top of key.
6. Northwestern is better than most people think. Illini not as good as most people think!

I learned two things from this game.
1. NU is a good team
2. The BIG is going to be a meatgrinder any time you play a road game.

Being completely serious … One of my biggest issues with Brad throughout his entire tenure is our looks out of timeouts … What’s our % on scoring out of those ??? I’d love to know it …

Been absolute 🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑 since Gentry left on X&O …
Can you tell your people to tell Brad to delegate those to Tyler? 😁
