I was thinking along the same lines. When shooting threes from out front following your shot may not be the best idea, but when putting them up from the corners we should definitely be following them in looking to rebound.Well I will just add one thought that I have come to expect with Brads teams.. They don't have an understanding of the old saying follow your shot. If you are going to shot 3s which is fine then you know when you release the ball if your shot is on target and should know to follow you shot as a miss will make the ball come back in your direction. Way to many time our guys shoot and then pose instead of trying to get their missed shot. Yes I understand the need for some one to get back on defense but that should not be the shooters responsibility.
The Matador Indexas was already mentioned, Brad said Ben was the highest defensive rated player in the NW game. exactly what metrics are they using for this?
No, because at least Neville tried to defend the way to their goal. But they both got a case of petrificus totalus and froze up.Does that mean Ben = Neville?
What’s crazy is right now with the current NET rankings we have 18 more Q1 opportunities on our scheduleThis game is big. I get that it's early and only one game but if we lose tomorrow night it's not hard to begin seeing a bubbilicous rest of the year such as...
Tennessee - L
Missouri - L
Chicago St - W
@Oregon - L
We'll be 7-6 starting the year and the path to the end of the year starts looking like 18 wins.
Maybe, but it’s not like Martinelli was making open looks. He was hitting contested 2’s, but those are still good shots for him. Like they were for Domask last year.Sounds like he was trying to deflect heat off of Ben.
For years we have clamored for a tough non-conference schedule. Outside of a few cupcakes, we are certainly getting that, and the B1G (while not having a super top-tier team) has a lot of teams that are still highly competitive. This team can be very dangerous come March, but the key will be surviving well enough to get in position to make the tournament. I am all for these difficult schedules, as it makes the games more fun to watch (and the losses more acceptable when the competition is so much better). What’s crazy is right now with the current NET rankings we have 18 more Q1 opportunities on our schedule.
For reference, last year our Q1 record was 8-6
I'm glad you backed up my sentiment above with actual stats! Again, this just FEELS like a game we win. Fingers crossed.from sleepers / pregame video. since 2020, following a loss with next game at home - Illinois is 26-2
Yay, I haven't cancelled my subscription since the last game. Anybody know off-hand if this is the last Peacock game?Another freaking Peacock game![]()
I was just sharing the anecdotal data they shared. Glad their information was accurate. For those interested the majority of the games were 10+ point wins for Illinois.I'm glad you backed up my sentiment above with actual stats! Again, this just FEELS like a game we win. Fingers crossed.
I decided to look back at the post-rebuild Underwood Era, and the following home "rebound" wins immediately after painful losses were particularly memorable! I'm also skipping 2020-21 (A) to save space and (B) since fans weren't in the arena and thus the "coming back home" effect was not quite the same.
2019-20
L 79-81 vs. Miami (FL) in Big Ten/ACC Challenge
L 58-59 at #3 Maryland (epic collapse)
-----> W 71-62 vs. #5 Michigan (Kofi accidentally punching the ref game, lol)
L 56-76 at #14 Michigan State
-----> W 63-37 vs. Purdue (remember when we used to beat Purdue?!)
L 63-71 at #19 Ohio State
-----> W 78-76 vs. #18 Iowa (Kofi blocks Garza at the buzzer for the double bye in the BTT that never was)
2021-22
L 65-81 at Maryland (without Kofi)
-----> W 56-55 vs. #10 Michigan State (ALSO without Kofi!)
2022-23
L 60-73 at Northwestern (the low point for this team after Skyy left and we were 9-5 [0-3])
-----> W 79-69 vs. #14 Wisconsin (I was so depressed I actually forgot we played this day, lol...)
2023-24
L 78-83 at #1 Purdue (first road test without TSJ and fought VERY hard in this loss)
-----> W 71-68 vs. Michigan State (desperately needed win to restore confidence vs. a preseason top 5 team)
L 80-88 at Michigan State (absolute fold down the stretch for our Illini)
-----> W 97-68 vs. Michigan (even though Michigan was bad, it felt good to just demolish them)
L 89-90 at Penn State (one of the worst collapses we have ever had...)
-----> W 95-85 vs. Iowa (rivalry win after returning home felt great!)
Let's continue the pattern and throttle Wisconsin!
Sadly, there are 3 this year all spaced out (slightly) more than a month apart forcing you to pay for 3 months of Peacock.Yay, I haven't cancelled my subscription since the last game. Anybody know off-hand if this is the last Peacock game?

I don't know what it is monthly, but bought Peacock streaming on black Friday and gave it to my father. $19.99 plus tax for the year. Looks like if you want to catch all of the FB and BB games you are stuck with streaming.Sadly, there are 3 this year all spaced out (slightly) more than a month apart forcing you to pay for 3 months of Peacock.
I’m more than happy to pay to watch the Illini. And I always do. But I’m not happy about giving money to these dumb streaming services that can’t stand alone on their own.
This practice is total BS. They are banking the business case on a small percent of people forgetting about their subscription and paying for months they aren’t using it.
Rant over.

I also got it for $19.99 for Black Friday. It’s for the year AND..pro tip: you can go to settings and cancel subscription now, and it cancels it when your paid subscription is finished IE: next year before you get charged again.Sadly, there are 3 this year all spaced out (slightly) more than a month apart forcing you to pay for 3 months of Peacock.

B1G+ is the one thing I'm jealous of the ESPN conferences for, because their non-televised content goes to ESPN+, which itself has value outside college sports and it's one less service for them to worry about.Sadly, there are 3 this year all spaced out (slightly) more than a month apart forcing you to pay for 3 months of Peacock.

Not really, Neville got 10 points and Ben only 3.Does that mean Ben = Neville?
I went to the same basketball school of thought and you are exactly right. I watch every 3 pt shooter in the modern game retreat as soon as they release the shot, esp if they are not in the corner. If you watch, you will notice the 3 pt shooter is usually the closest player to the center court and therefore in the best position to guard against a fast break. I think that’s the strategy, get back as fast as you can to be in a position to disrupt an uncontested fast break if the rebound is long.View attachment 37919
We were taught that back in the mid to late 60's...........I too have wondered why we don't do this simple basketball fundamental task................................I really really have.................
