Am starting a year-end Christmas/Hanukkah/Eid/Diwali thread in which we may express our thanks to:

(1) our splendid overlord and host Dan for creating and sustaining this wonderful virtual community of Illini faithful and fanatical;
(2) all assembled here who enable us to have channeled untold, and wildly entertaining, hours over the years that we might otherwise have, for example, deployed in writing entirely mediocre novels that the world can do without and no one would ever read;
(3) Josh, Bret, Brad and Shauna for their leadership in taking our three marquee programs to/toward what seem plausibly to be sustainable heights;
(4) the University of Illinois for being what it is, and what it means to all of us.

Where else can I argue publicly and passionately on Christmas Eve about whether or not a Zapruder-like film clip shows that a 300-lb opponent (Peyton Marshall) threw a comparatively waif-like 6'9" 225-lb Morez Johnson to the floor with malice aforethought, and then sauntered away as though he were seeking a fistful of corndogs in the first several rows of the arena further to slake his in-game appetite for mayhem and protein?

Either here on the Board, or in the grocery store parking lot. If here, spirited repartee ensues. If the latter, the state would probably grant me shelter and boarding in an unfurnished, enclosed space for a few days.

IllinoisLoyalty is fabulous, as are all of you. We have a NYE Bowl Game, football portal recruiting, and four months of basketball thrills ahead. It is indeed good to be us. :illinois:

Disport yourselves below as you see fit. Gratitude is contagious. And we all have much for which to be grateful, whether or not it has anything to do with the Illini.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

@altgeld88 Thank you for your perfect post. I am also grateful to and for Dan and everyone and everything you noted; plus, I’ll add I’m grateful to all of the other sports’ coaches for their hard work on behalf of Illini student athletes, and I’m grateful for my family and good health. Merry, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and Peace to all in Illini Nation!

Happy holidays to all Illini faithful (or unholidays for those who don't recognize or celebrate holidays). Grateful for this board and the Illini diehards who inhabit it. Grateful for a board that gives me insider news about my Illini teams. I'm also thankful for this board's work as a place to celebrate my Illini teams' accomplishments and express my critical thoughts as well. And all this for free? Thank you so much Dan. It isn't possible for me to express my gratitude enough.

Thanks to each and every one of you, even those with whom I may disagree with at times, for providing good honest debate and conversation around all things Illini-related. (And sometimes other topics as well.) I really appreciate the polite and often thought-provoking discussion.

And a special thanks to @Dan for his near-perfect moderation of this board. May your name hang from the virtual internet rafters.

This is a very nice thread on my birthday. Great sentiment, shared by many, well-stated by one.

I lost my best friend 2 weeks ago. It just seems like I've lost so many over the years (that's life when you're as old as I am.). I still find myself reaching for the phone every time something I deem important about the beloved occurs. Including remarks found on this forum. So on this Christmas day I'm still grrieving. I pray each day he's watching from the other side.

I am an old isolated guy living out on a farm in rural Champaign County with just a little Canine. Loyalty is my Community - we value Dan and all of you.

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays - Go Illini

What's your canine's name? I'm a hopeless dog lover.
