Humrichous is shooting 35% from 3 despite going 4 for 21 in the last 4 games. It’s a slump and he’ll bounce back. I’m not worried about this shooting. I think his defense will improve too. He’s pretty good at talking on the court but it’s so freaking frustrating seeing how he gets tossed back so easily when he gets a little off balance.
Opponents post him up whenever they have a chance. There seems to be a reputation now.

I'd like to see Will drive to the basketball more. I'd like to think he's "strong" enough to do that. I think he does have the ability to finish or get fouled and shoot more FTs.
I think he tried some but was not super successful due to his build. I don't mind he tries more but I prefer him bulking up and staying for another year.

He needs to lower his center of gravity, and at time he does but he has to think about it way more against good opponents. There’s potential to be decent in this area but the lack of experience playing against skilled and more agile athletes is showing his bad tendencies and below average lateral speed. If he was as strong as Domask, he’d be a second rounder but it is what it is. I’m sure he’s watching plenty of tape since a lot of this can be remedied throughout the season. I’m confident that we’ll see a better version of him but at the same time I think his shooting will improve if his minutes are kept to about 10-15 minutes per game.

Just for a re-over, Loyalty posts about KJ when committing or about to commit:

"Becoming increasingly clear that Illinois spectacularly whiffed by thinking they were budgetary savants passing on Storr, and now is trying to sell a 17-year-old playing in Europe (a question mark twice over)"

"We are paying big fish money for a mid tier fish."

"Sorry...but no matter how you slice it...if Kasparas is gonna be our only add from now on out...that's a disappointment."

"I think a situation like this should be a no-go. Young fella is too young too help now ..."

"A million? I’ll take Storr for an extra 200k all day"

"If we are paying $1M (which is much more than other bidders!)for some 17yr old kid from Europe vs $1.2M for Storr, that's a huge miss."

One even condemning insiders: "Making things worse is the expectations set by insiders just less than 2 months ago. Just read their post history. There was talk that BU said in a staff meeting they’d over-sign by one, and now we’re talking about strategically leaving 2 scholarships open because “nobody plays 10 deep anyways”. "

And btw, all this talk about AJ Storr - yeah...

LOL. Are you trying to support your "every comment" when he committed said it was a "setback "?

Two posters were critical. All others were supportive.

Just a bizarre turn to come on here trying to throw shade at the fanbase and basically disprove your point.
LOL no surprise your so defensive.

"For all the people who are constantly saying that BU is a master at the portal and who try to convince everyone that everything is great, wouldn't you be happier staying away from this thread? Come back in February after about 20 games and we can see how it all turns out."

Well, not defensive at all. I've never been a sky is falling nor an everything is rosy guy when it comes to new players.

But of course you appear to continue to ignore all the positive comments. Two negative posters. Probably a few like me in wait and see mode.

What's the point of this? I can easily go into your posting history and find some duds.

For example on October 27, 2024, in the pregame thread for the game against Minnesota, you predicted "1-3 the next four." Instead, we went 3-1 to get to 9 wins.

On the same day you posted in a basketball thread "kasparas is not enough ready to play to be a one and done. we overrated him coming in. might develop into the future, but not nearly that immediate impact freshman people were calling for."

The very next day you posted "Right now this team is not a tournament team. Not saying they won't be by the end, but right now they're not. We've got long ways to go. We damn-sure ain't winning any of those 3 non con games tenn, ark, bama. think that's pretty safe to circle in." (emphasis added)

The day after that you posted:

"Saying that we're a tournament team rn is an absolute lie. and we likely won't be for the entire first half of the year. highly likely we start out with 5+ losses in our first 12 (games before 2025).

going to need a strong finish to get into tourney conversation." (emphasis added)

Everyone on here gets it wrong sometimes. In late October you were on a heater for bad takes. Maybe lets let the past be the past?

I was wrong once in 1993 but in retrospect I'm pretty sure I was just joking

Just finished watching the game and that’s a gutsy win. KJ is a beast but Boswelll was the leader today.

Other thing I’ll say is the BH hate on here is getting stupid. They targeted him early and he did exactly what you’re supposed to: wall up and force a tough midrange shot. They made tough shots but not b/c of bad D. His 2nd half D was VERY good…not perfect but he played well. I get it that his shot’s not falling and that’s gotta change. But he wasn’t nearly as bad as some of you are acting like. Where are the same takes on WR?
Will Riley sucked too! But, he is very young and clearly sped up currently. Ben supposedly has experience and shouldn't look like an absolute waste of space. He isn't shooting worth a damn (which is what he is supposed to be great at), his man consistently scores over top of him, he doesn't box out, he doesn't rebound! I would love for him to be a serviceable player, but currently he isn't! I am not the guy who is getting paid millions of dollars to make these decisions, but I don't understand why he is playing as much as he is.

Ty chose to redshirt because he was at best the 4th (non-shooting) PG & 3rd (undersized) C.

I would rather minutes go to players who chose to play for the Illini this season.
I think that this team is missing what Ty Rogers has in spades. That is a glue-guy, who will do whatever is asked of him, and who has been part of the system for 3 years. This team needs his leadership, grit, athleticism, and rebounding. As far as I am concerned, he can have 90% of Ben's minutes!

IMO I think people are so salty because we are unfortunately missing exactly what Ben was supposed to be: an older hybrid post/wing that knocks down 40% of open 3s.

Ty fills 1/2 of that but has us playing 4v5 on offense and as the 8th man probably doesn't change any of our losses.

Fair enough, but this isn't a post or two here and there. Not one pea in a bowl of corn. I'm talking a full thread crushing the kasparas addition.... and now he is our jolly. Just a little amusing, js.

Just posted recently. Thought you all might enjoy if though we are post braggin rights game.

Two things struck me about this video:

1. The crowd sounds so much louder and more energetic here compared to this past year. Is this just a weird sound filter on the modern ESPN broadcast (I did feel the crowd noise sounded odd this year), or are fans really that much more subdued these days?

2. It was SO much less common then to wear your team’s colors. If not for looking at the benches, you wouldn’t be able to tell which side is which … the crowd was a sea of white and gray, lol. Compared to this (from 2012-13 year), the contrast is wild:

I like the claim that Self would be the Mizzou coach if Quinn Snyder had not accepted.

^ Another random/bored thought on a sleepy Saturday for me ... it's kind of striking how much less yellow/gold/pukey mustard apparel Miznoz fans wear now than in past years. The Illini side is still pretty orange (though that has also decreased), but the Missouri side is always like 60% black, 30% gold and 10% other. It made for a much cooler visual when each side provided a bit more of a color contrast, and it speaks to an interesting trend I have noticed that crowds are starting to be less monochromatic and are starting to resemble crowds from before the mid-2000s or so. It seems like there was this peak trend of teams emphasizing their crowds being in one bright color from like 2004 to 2019 or so, and now you don't see it as much.

Some examples below of some contrasting years:

I guess it is true what they say that all trends come back around, haha.
