Jack Sikma says hellothe Illinois Wesleyan men's team was undefeated…….
go Methodists ! (Titans in this case )I don't know if any of you have interest in D3 hoops, but I sure do. Last night the Illinois Wesleyan women's team defeated Trinity (TX) in overtime in the Trinity gym. The girls are now still undefeated and ranked 3/4 in the country. IWU's men's team is also ranked in the top 10. I'm a U of I alum but live in Bloomington so I've developed a passion for IWU basketball, men and women.
Admire the dedication; not sure there's another thread where one poster has 64% of the posts! Go Wesleyan.IWU has moved up one spot to #5 in the country. Nick Roper, a talented guard, has been named to the Bevo Francis watch list for national player of the year in D3. Most people won't remember Bevo, butt I'm old enough to remember him. A 6-9 center in the '50s, he was pouring in over 50 ppg. The only way to get info back then was occasional newspaper articles. He played for Rio Grande College; based on the name, I thought that would be a school out west, but IIRC, it was in Ohio. It turned out Rio Grande was little more than a glorified JC. I really don't know why they would designate an award in his name. Meanwhile, IWU women's team is still undefeated at 16-0 and still ranked #2. NYU is always #1 and this year is no exception. They have more than 60,000 students which is about 60 times more than most D3 schools. NYU is the largest private school in the nation, based on student enrollment. I guess they get to play D3 because they don't give athletic scholarships.
Wow, sorry for dominating the thread. I live in Bloomington and go to a lot of IWU games men and women. Other than that, I don't have anything special to say about D3 teams. I did mention NYU (see above) but just don't know enough about other teams to make an informed post. The CCIW on the women's side seems a bit down this year, but the Titans beat 4 ranked teams, all on the road, in early preconference tourneys.Admire the dedication; not sure there's another thread where one poster has 64% of the posts! Go Wesleyan.

No need for an apology, there was no snark intended in mine.Wow, sorry for dominating the thread. I live in Bloomington and go to a lot of IWU games men and women. go ahead and get one goingI appreciate a new and different subject, especially during the lull between FB season and spring camp. Years ago I was dating a cheerleader from Wesleyan and I'd go watch her cheer. Her frosh year was Sikma's senior year and every game was standing room only in their old gym. In today's world, he would have transferred up to UI, but it was fun to be able to get a third row seat to watch a future NBA player work his magic in a classic old gym. Speaking of classic old gyms, that would be a fun thread sometime.
How about Huff gym back in the day. To me, as a youngster, it seemed HUGE. In reality, it was a cramped dump with rickety wooden bleachers that were even warped with flaking paint in some areas.go ahead and get one going
I'm replying to my own letter, lol. I forgot to say I was talking about the Illinois Wesleyan teams. The D3 hoops thread has mysteriously disappeared, so I don't really know where to post this. Both the men's and women's teams are now ranked #3 in the nation. The women are 18-0 and the men 17-2. The women's team lacks size. They will run into trouble in the NCAA tourney when they run up against a time with a quality big (or two).
