IWU has moved up one spot to #5 in the country. Nick Roper, a talented guard, has been named to the Bevo Francis watch list for national player of the year in D3. Most people won't remember Bevo, butt I'm old enough to remember him. A 6-9 center in the '50s, he was pouring in over 50 ppg. The only way to get info back then was occasional newspaper articles. He played for Rio Grande College; based on the name, I thought that would be a school out west, but IIRC, it was in Ohio. It turned out Rio Grande was little more than a glorified JC. I really don't know why they would designate an award in his name. Meanwhile, IWU women's team is still undefeated at 16-0 and still ranked #2. NYU is always #1 and this year is no exception. They have more than 60,000 students which is about 60 times more than most D3 schools. NYU is the largest private school in the nation, based on student enrollment. I guess they get to play D3 because they don't give athletic scholarships.
. I don't know how much D3 interest there is here, but the Illinois Wesleyan women are undefeated and ranked #4 in the country. They've beaten 3 ranked teams already, all on the road. The men's team was undefeated and anked #5 going into Wednesday night's game but they got upset by Carthage. We'll find out soon how much damage that did to their ranking.
