For as one-sided as the announcers were, even Roddy pointed this out. He said SC had "gotten themselves into trouble" with late second waves of subs, because of course we have every right to sub in response.

The subbing thing and the t-bar thing aren't comparable at all. One might be annoying to opposing fans but the other risks player safety. I won't be surprised if this game ends up in a more formal rule change.

Beamer was a maniac on the sideline all game. I truly believe this was because they whined about being left out of the CFP and thought they'd run away with this game as a way to further that case. They got punched in the mouth and never recovered, and he visibly spiraled on the sideline.

I know one thing, for a game that "didn't matter", their fans sure are salty about the loss. Some of the vitriol I've read on social media since we won has been way over the top. What a bunch of sore losers.
I will just say, don't point out how out of control Shane Beamer was on social media unless you're ready for some really awful blowback.

Of course, I'm happy to point out that their fans doing this are clearly learning well from their head football coach. :ROFLMAO:

Living in SC, I have watched a lot of Gamecock games over the years, so here's my take on things....

1. Not having Rocket Sanders made a huge difference for them. Once he got healthy mid-year their offense really took off, and not having him Tuesday allowed us to key on Sellers.
2. Our defensive game plan on Sellers was outstanding. Teams got in trouble when they allowed him to get out of the pocket and we did a great job of minimizing that
3. I like Beamer and think he is a good guy. However, as you can see he also plays to the edge of what is allowable, and I'm glad BB did it right back. He's also an average game coach at best and was clearly outclassed Tuesday
4. Carolina fans are incredibly passionate; given their relative lack of success over the years they are probably the best fans in America
5. The offensive game plan was outstanding as well. Even without Kennard their D-Line is close to elite, but their strength is rushing the passer. With a few exceptions our game plan took that away from them.

THIS!!! People don't understand that SC was initiating the game by subbing so late and they do so because they know most teams feel rushed to sub and either have the wrong personnel or the late subs discombobulated.
In fairness to them, they had a new OC for this game, Mike Shula, given their OC took a HC job, so some of that could have been the lack of smoothness in the operation to get the play call in rather than an intentional strategy - that was my read at least. Obviously on a couple of occasions they had to sub twice to get the right personnel in, which is usually a sign of disfunction rather than a strategy. Bret took advantage of that of course - as he should. This is not a new rule, the announcers being critical of the officials is pointing blame in the wrong place - teams have known you have to get your subs in right away on offense to allow the defense to sub and the officials are going to stop you from snapping the ball until they do have their subs in. How fast the subs are running onto the field is not something the officials dictate, in fact, forcing 320 pound defensive lineman to have to sprint 30 yards onto the field so you can snap the ball, favors the offense. It's clear in the rules, it's the offense's responsibility to sub with ample time for the defense to sub in response.

With all the SEC crying going on, I foresee a substitution time limit rule in the future.

Only if they limit the offense too.
Why not specify offensive subs must begin with at least 25-30 seconds left on the clock? That would have prevented Beamer from shooting himself in the foot.

The position where the ball is spotted can vary so much that it’s tough to specify a time for the defense to finish their response. Far side of the field near the end zone is a long haul for big linemen. Just limit when the offense can trigger the process.

Or leave it as is and expect the offense to live with the outcome of late subs.

I viewed Sanders and Pat Bryant as a wash. Not having Kennard was a big loss for them though.

I mean there's already a rule, but I could see them altering/fine-tuning it. Maybe making it a flat 15 seconds after the offense makes a substitution instead of 3 seconds to recognize the substitution and then 15 seconds to make the change. Coaches wanted this change in the first place because they didn't like the no huddle substitution on the fly offenses that could make changes while not letting tired defensive linemen off the field increasing risk of injury. This change helped level the playing field. Could they shift it back entirely in the offense's favor? I guess it's possible but in my opinion, it's unlikely they get rid if the current rule.

And if you break it down, so long as you as an offense make a substitution in the first 10 seconds of the play clock, you'll still always have 12 seconds to read the defense, audible if necessary, and snap the ball. That really shouldn't be as difficult as Beamer and Shula made it look. I don't know, maybe next time just don't take over 15 seconds to get your play and substitutions in and you'll be able to snap the ball on time no problem?

I had respect for Beamer's father. No so much for Shame. Coach B got in his head and stayed there. The tape says it all. A lot of people were questioning coach B last year. I was not one of them. I believe that we will continue to grow as a program. It does take time. It would be nice to continue to produce these kind of seasons and win a bowl every other year. Maybe even qualify for the playoffs. I believe it sets up nicely for next year and the money situation is getting better. Can't wait for the prospect of a remodel for the South End Zone in the coming years. Memorial is going to be rocking next year. GREAT SEASON! Oh and by the way. We get to play Indiana next year. Enough said!

A head coach who was focused on the game in front of him instead of berating the officials the entire game likely would have been able to make that adjustment.

I went back and captured this. In the two frames before this one Beatty is being pulled down by the defender and lands on top of the defender, in bounds, not touching the ground. This is the first frame where Beatty is actually touching the ground. And the referee can accurately spot the ball from his position?????

This referee had trouble spotting the ball all game.

You don't need a rule to prevent the offense from shooting themselves in the foot. The rule now does that, as Bret showed us throughout the game.

While we don't have another PB on the roster, Franklin and Beaty are pretty darn good and we had guys who could stretch their defense. SC doesn't have anyone close to Sanders skill set on the roster. Without him, SC in essence had no running game outside of Sellers, and our game plan was designed to keep Sellers bottled up. We couldn't have gotten away with that strategy if Sanders had played. I love PB, but for purposes of this game it was far from a wash

Does Franklin have eligibility left?

We should start a Best "Whinners" coach. Beamer would top ....always in an officials ear constantly....Franklin from Penn S, is another bawler. In a news conference early in the season a reporter asked a question, Franklin asked who he wrote for, .....then says.... I dont answer any questions from you .
