1/4 from Gronigen , other 1/4 from Utrecht, 1/2 from FrieslandI which part of The Netherlands does "Tibbs" originate?
That's not strange. Fans have been critical of announcers that are ostensibly neutral essentially forever given they've historically been used to listening to the ones from their local radio or TV station. The advent of conference-centric networks hasn't exactly helped matters.I perused the South Carolina fan board (24/7) yesterday and here are a few random thoughts:
1. The resort to violence. Bret may want to hire a bodyguard for a week or two. There were many posters who out and out wanted to punch BB in the face. And I don’t think they were being metaphorical.
2. Many not only now hate the University of Illinois (some said they previously had either favorable opinions or were neutral but now hate U of I) they also now hate the whole state of Illinois (one called it the commie state, LOL
3. The refs were in Illinois pockets, taking bribes to throw the game of course
4. Strangely enough, they were almost as critical of ESPN announcers as many on here are (including me)
5. And, of course, they had no understanding of what the whole BB/SB kerfluffle was actually about. They just saw it was taunting.
And he got the ball up to the 25 yard line for all that nonsense.Beamer might have broken all blood vessels in his neck if this happened. And honestly, nothing could have happened because that is not an accepted fair catch signal per the NCAA rule book.
It's really a cheap and unethical play. And as others have mentioned, when the Illinois players slow up they become sitting ducks. Shane was perfectly willing to sacrifice player safety in the name of winning a football game.
Beamer said the refs told him as long as he player doesn’t wave his hands he is fine. He said he asked the refs. What is the actual rule on the books.
Don't know what you studied, but you may have missed your calling. Or not.Two more random postgame thoughts:
1. You can nitpick individual actions/decisions, but DAMN do I love how much frickin' confidence Bret has in himself. When he threw those extra subs in and forced South Carolina to burn a timeout, he didn't hesitate to chuckle. Whereas I (a long-tortured Illini fan) kept thinking that it was risky because South Carolina very well might score a TD on one of the next plays, Bret didn't care ... he had confidence in his players, his staff and himself to punch back. One of the luckiest days in Illini football of the last many, many, many years was when we were able to hire him.
2. ESPN is so much more obnoxiously and unprofessionally biased toward the SEC than FOX is to the Big Ten ... and it is not close. Something is so cringey and ironic to me about a bunch of arrogant and boarish New Yorkers simping for Deep South football schools.
3. This is super random, but I was just thinking how Illini fans tend to be "undercounted" in almost every crowd we are in due to the color orange. It is such a bright and vibrant color that I think people naturally identify orange with their eyes in a crowd, and they subconsciously count all orange T-shirts as Illini fans and all non-orange T-shirts as the other teams' fans. I have realized this when I have watched us play Northwestern in Evanston or at Wrigley and my wife will start out by guessing we have about 40% of the crowd only to slowly realize just how many Illini fans are in navy, white or gray. It's only once there is cheering that you realize we have so many more fans than it appears visually. In relation to this bowl, there are some angles where it looks like it was 65%+ South Carolina fans, but when you actually zoom in and/or listen to the crowds, it was probably closer to 55/45 South Carolina. People just assume the end zone seats that were not visibly majority orange were NOT Illini fans, even though we had tons of fans in those sections.
That was a huge play that "literally" had this old guy jump off the couch. I have read this entire thread, if this was mentioned previously, I missed it.I appreciate how Bielema didn't use barge formation until late in game so they couldn't adjust to it at halftime.
also Frank Beamer's special teams at Virginia Tech were always excellent...not just blocking kicks and punts. Nepo Baby Shane was a fail on Tuesday...missed a FG...blew a chance at FG with the Zookian formation...a better thrown ball that is a touchdown...but Ryan Meed saw the guy put his hands up, that is when he put his hands up, not PI even though his back was to the QB. that is 6 points left on field...
Met Ryan after game at team hotel, super nice kid, great representative of the program. Flight home yesterday was 2 hours late didn't care....
Beat Western Illinois.
My take on the whole "kerfuffle".
Did Bret have a valid point re: the t bar signal? Yes, he did. His gesture was a bit over the top but he made his point. He also called it out for all future SC opponents that will take note & coach their teams to always run thru the whistle on kickoffs against SC cause they don't follow the spirit of the t bar signal to call off the dogs.
Was Beamer an unhinged Temu Hurley from the start of the game? Without question he was & the whole kerfuffle sent him on tilt. Both guys should have been flagged for unsportsmanlike penalties but so be it.
Was Bret playing games with subs? Maybe a little but SC shoulda been able to adjust at some point during the game. They caused the issue by subbing late or trying to make multiple subs in between plays.
Is Bret a petty jackass at times? Absolutely but he's our petty jackass & I love the guy. I'd much rather have a guy on our sideline that will use every tactical advantage he can find (even if some think its gamesmanship) as opposed to some of the milktoast empty headseats we've had on the sidelines over the last 35 years (Zook, Tepper, Beckman). For the most part, all of our coaches (save Beckman) since Tepper have been seen as nice guys by the outside world. It's fine to be nice, but if our guy is a bit of a prick but wins, thats just fine with me. On balance, Bret seems like a respected guy in the profession by other coaches & he appears to have great buy in from his team. That's good enough for me.
General Grant is more appropriateTell them President Lincoln and his General Sherman sent their regards![]()

Started my chemo treatments last week. So far, it's really kicking my butt. Looking forward to the destination, but the journey looks like it could be a rough one. Get well soon! What a masterful performance! It was in my backyard (59 miles away but I couldn't go because of chemo treatments and a weakened immune system.) But the defense contained them, not breaking down and making them travel the entire field to score. The offense did just enough to control the tempo and refused to get rattled. And Bielema and company outcoached their coaches in almost every phase. I think I'll stay up all night and watch the game over and over...
GO ILLINI!!!! never been more proud!
Loyalty is an outstanding fan forum. There are other Illini fan blogs that are not, just like the ones you have visited. I visit my pro teams forums sometimes, and I can't believe the number of jerks. We seem to weed them out here. It's quite interesting, reading other teams' forums sometimes. I've run across some real trash ... juvenile, profane, violent. It makes me feel quite fortunate to be an Illini fan and have Dan's site here representing us.

Let's hope not!We havent seen the end of " the Barge " from Bret.
OK, off subject, but this memory still cracks me up: A buddy and I were coaching a youth soccer team our sons were on (8-9 yo boys). At the end of the season we took them out for lunch and wer discussing different things with them. One kid had already lived in Europe, Middle East, etc. because of his dad's job. We were talking to them about sports played around the world. Somehow, The Netherlands came up. I asked what people from the The Netherlands were called? He said, "Cheese heads". The 2 of us were stunned, then started laughing. I looked into. He was right. I guess Illinois is the same as Belgium.I which part of The Netherlands does "Tibbs" originate?
Great advice, the part I put in bold I found to be particularly important. Stay in this moment and take it one moment at a time.Trust those specialists. Trust science. Stay positive. Do everything you're told to do. I speak from experience.
Apparently it wasn’t math, because I said I had two points to make and plowed right ahead for three.Don't know what you studied, but you may have missed your calling. Or not.
Still waiting on this reply also. Calling aaeismacgychel!So...anything tidbits from being next to Declan Duley's gf? Any insight on why he entered the portal? We really need a punter.
I remember a friend from a different part of the country coming to NYC for school in the '90s and becoming a Knick fan. He was home for the playoffs and his father got into the team too. During one nationally broadcast Knick playoff game, his father got really upset at how he felt the play-by-play guy was biased against the Knicks. My friend had to gently inform his father that the main job of the NBC play-by-play guy, Marv Albert, was calling Knick games. That's not strange. Kinda like my 21 year old brother is dating a 88 year old woman and intends to marry.........legal....but ethical?
That was my favorite part! "A,2, and D"Apparently it wasn’t math, because I said I had two points to make and plowed right ahead for three.![]()
