I know, I know, I shouldn't blame the refs, but they were brutal in that game. It was very similar to the North Carolina Championship game. Poor Bruce.
Romar had Mike Jensen literally mugging Augustine all through the second half. Illinois didn't enter the ball to him and I'm not sure Jensen ever got called for a foul. At least, that's the way I remember it in my nightmares...

See you there in orange on Sunday afternoon. I expect a big Illini turnout!

College Basketball Huskies GIF by Washington Athletics
I hope that was a compliment/appreciation for the GIF find. I won't lie - I've been waiting for this game to bring that one out. All in good fun, of course.

This game means more to me than it should, but I've had a grudge against Washington since they bounced us in the second round of the tourney back in '06.

It was the beginning of our decade-long basketball despair.

Euthanize the Huskies. :illinois:
I still remember our 2nd half foul trouble giving them a bunch of FT’s to come back and win. Brandon Roy gave us, and Dee Brown, fits.

Lunardi's biggest issue is that he starts doing Bracketology in August before anyone actually knows how good anyone is, and then can't get off those initial impressions for far too long.
The only thing I like about lunardi is that he at least publishes why he moved a team up/down on twitter during the bracketology season. But if you want true brscketology odds, go to bracketmatrix.com once it gets going aggregating the 80-100 different publications. That usually isn’t more than 1 seed line off.

More than a little concerned that Illinois win at Oregon will be interpreted by the rest of the B1G as the only way to beat Illinois is by turning the game into a slow paced, mucked up, foul fest. If Oregon's athletes can't keep pace with Illinois on their own home court, no one's can. Expecting to have to watch a bunch of ugly games until we get to the tournament.

Just remember what happened to this team the last time they played a Huskies, and respond in kind. 30-0 run over the middle 15 minutes of the game should do it.

Initially I thought Washington, along with MINN, would be one of those really, really bad teams... but doesn't look like it. Can't afford a letdown.
I still think UW finishes near bottom of conference. Just hard to win on the road in conference — even against the new teams. Throw in the travel and even harder. Wouldn’t surprise me at all that if we beat Wash, Illini are only team to get a sweep on NW trip. Likewise, if Maryland loses to Oregon, wouldn’t be surprised if not the only team to get swept on that swing.

Pretty certain that is what UW will try. But I think they’ll do that with most teams.

Mike Fratello showed it works even with bad NBA teams and a 24 second shot clock. Should not be a surprise that grabbing, slow play and daring officials to call fouls is about the only recipe some teams have to compete. With the longer shot clock and shorter game time one and ones and a “you can’t foul everyone out” mentality the make em win it at the foul line option is an annoying but legal way to play.

I honestly think the one and one needs to disappear and the shot clock should be reduced to 24 seconds to discourage this type of strategy. No need to reward fouling and slow play.

I get what you’re saying, and I don’t like foul fests either, but I don’t want to see any changes to college game that make it more NBA-like. If I want to watch NBA basketball, I watch the NBA. And I don’t watch much NBA.

I agree with the sentiment. But would still love to keep this from happening. Have thought about this a lot and that was the best I’ve come up with. Any suggestions?

I'd like to see an experiment with:
* Offensive foul: turnover
* Defensive foul (any): 1pt and offense gets the ball out of bounds with a 20s shot clock.
If the defensive foul is in the last 5 seconds of the half, the offensive team gets 1pt, a fresh shot clock, and the game is over after the possession.

The intent is to make it so that you never want to foul. Even allowing 2pts on a breakaway is better on average than giving 1pt and a possession. Once there are no "good fouls", does one need to limit the number of fouls per player?

UW is slow playing and a sloppy team too. Exploit it.

They have Diallo as a spark. Going to need to keep tight guard on him. KB.

Osobor is slow and methodical and a bit lazy. Leave him uncovered in the midrange area because he doesn’t like to shoot except at the rim and he’ll try to force a pass. Don’t make him a star by fouling. He misses bunnies when he isn’t bumped. He thrives on contact.

The center is from Northwestern so we should know about him.

And, remember our guy Jase Butler…

Treat it a bit like the unimpeded to the basket foul. Like it

So, you're worried that winning a top 10 away game by an all-time record amount will teach other teams how to beat us? I'm confused. LOL

No, worried I have to watch low possession count grab fests to 60 pts like the TN and NW games, where the officials give up calling all the fouls. The games being then determined by whichever team muscles up a lead of more than one possession late, resulting in the final few minutes of the game being a free throw contest.
