The Illini shoot 19% from 3 and get outscored 30-15 from the arc. We are minus-3 in turnovers, including that gift on the inbounds (I think Brad needs to clarify which open guy should get the pass — one wearing our jersey).
And yet they win. On the road. A looong way from home. Against a team that just beat a good Maryland team. Color me impressed that the Illini can win a game like this.
Completely agree. They would’ve lost this game in November. Any road win in the B10 is great.

Yes! Fletch needs to get hand strength exercises going or something.
To be completely fair, this is a lot more mental than it is physical. Two hands firmly on the ball, focus on being aware of your surroundings, elbows locked out to make yourself bigger (not swinging them, just having your arms nice and wide to take up space).

On the trip west, KJ basically played only one half against Oregon, and Boswell one half against Washington. And the Illini win both. That’s how valuable DGL is. He adds a different dimension with his explosiveness… and he finishes at the rim.
I have such great respect for how he plays his role, no matter what that role might be game to game. And I think that role is becoming very defined.
We should let DGL play more iso when the opponent does not have a great shot blocker.

So glad for Tre, he has transferred twice and Louisville last year was "wet garbage" no offense to dumpster fires. He is being a solid developing key player on a NET top 5 team.

Agree that Will would be served by another year in college. Physically, mentally, and skillfully not ready for the premiere men's league. Return next year and likely be a top 3 scoring option.

He's really hitting his stride. After KJ, he looks like the best NBA prospect on the team (at this point).
Idk, his position is SG/SF in NBA. He needs to shoot much better from the 3pt line to live in the league.

I can't like this post enough. Love DGL. He makes me look forward to next year, along with Tre...even when we are an awesome team this year!

Some thoughts...

- Their length affected us, but it's going to be useful for us to learn from. Kasparas was having trouble getting where he wanted to when they blitzed, but he adjusted. If Kasparas had 1 extra gear, he would be the number 1 pick in the draft. There are times when I wish he could get just a hair more separation on drives. He more then makes up for it with his IQ...enjoy every game he's here.

- I love Will, and I think his ceiling is sky high, but it looks like the game is super fast for him right now. It feels like he just can't find a rhythm in the offense and he's pressing a lot. His body needs a lot of work. I pray he comes back a second year, if he leaves early it's going to be a huge mistake in my opinion. Along with that, thank God for Tre White...

- Ben was...OK, but I need a mean streak if he's gonna try to bang in the paint. Too many soft takes and bunnies missed.

- DGL is... maybe my favorite watch and maybe on the cusp of being a "real" guy. There is probably a conversation to be had if he is you're starting guard at 30 min a game next year. He is becoming a must play guard. His first step and athleticism is NBA ready right now. He is a blur, and its everything...lateral quickness, leaping ability, first step, defense...he's a terrific athlete. If he keeps working, I think he could be REAL good as a Junior...and he's only getting better right now.

- The late game mistakes have got to be cleaned up...it's becoming a habit and it has to stop. We have, and will continue to lose games if we can't execute in late game situations.

- When we hit 3's, I think we are one of the best teams in the nation. I need to see improvement in the half court offense, pick and roll game...what is our plan when the game gets snail paced? I want to see them carve out an identity.

- I'm overall pleased...they didn't play all that well and beat a long, solid team at home who had a guard go apesh*t from 3. Take the win, learn and get better.
Ivisic, too, needs a mean streak. Once or twice today he should've just dunked it, but tried to lay it in instead.

This has probably already been said *dont have time to scroll* but Brad needs to devote more practice time to inbounding the ball.

I will admit I was probably on the noway team...I was thinking we seem to be going 6'4" or bigger that can create and why did Purdue let him out...we don't want no team issues but...I'm of a mind to think he has a different speed when he plays...and we benefit from this...

I tried to take some action shots of those threes from the stands - and we missed like 6 in a row. The second I stopped snapping pictures we started making shots again. Needless to say I stopped what I was doing.

UW is talented and fought hard. We withstood that and the late game turnover by playing smart when it counted. Not many, if any, threes jacked up and nice strong takes inside on several occasions to respond to the Huskies momentum.

Wow, what a game. I was an emotionally torn not participating in the “Go! Huskies!” chant yet bellowing “I-N-I” to the “I-L-L” that resonated throughout the arena.

I’m happy the Huskies fought. Respect.

I’m happy Illinois responded. They didn’t “survive”, they took that win home!

Coach was very active with the refs during game breaks and you saw his hard work payoff on the calls or non-calls in a ruckus environment.

Ran into several high school and U of I school mates. What a wonderful victory for the Illini and me personally!

How can I sleep tonight?

Where is the foul? Minimal contact and DGL goes straight up.
I dont see straight up here, I see him jumping towards the offensive player. I can see an argument for the offensive player jumping towards DGL, but Dra is not in a legal guarding position. That is, both feet towards the offensive player.

If Dra had got the ball first, then it could be let go. He didn't. Body first, ball second. Foul.

But like I said, good foul.

Is Osobor really making $2 mill? If so, man alive is that a colossal waste of $-I wasn't impressed at all by him. 9 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals is not worthy of a $2 million dude. We paid Tomi significantly less and he went for 9 points, 9 rebounds, and I thought it was one of his worst games.
Why should we be comparing this...is there a benefit...?

I expressed a lack of enthusiasm last April when Tre White transferred to the Illini. Too many schools, and from losing programs.

I was wrong.

Tre White is the kind of guy the Illini need. (Yeah, whatever, check the movie scripts, I may have plagiarized something. But I mean it. Kid's a warrior, and ya gotta love that.)

Go! Tre!
