man, this team. unreal. we're beating the pants off of teams and arent even consistently shooting that well from 3 (just shooting high volume).

and props to our insiders who called this for Tre even before he came here.
It's our rebounding. We can just keep jacking shots, if we're going to win the rebounding battle by a fairly large margin every game, it just gives you that many more chances to score.

This is a very tall team. We start 6'2", 6'6", 6'7", 6'9", 7'1". Then our next guys off the bench are 6'9" and 6'8". Only Boswell and DGL get minutes and are shorter than 6'6", and Boswell is a pit bull and DGL is a pogo stick.

On Tre, some may forget he was the #35 recruit out of high school. He had 55 starts under his belt and performed well. He's just not a great 3 pt shooter. His stats right now are not majorly out of line with what he's done the first 2 years. Though his scoring around the basket has been quite nice. I guess the short story, is we all should have expected him to be a good player, because he is a good player. He'll probably never lead the team, but he's going to be a valuable piece as long as he's here.

Fun Fact.
Tonight's game marked the third time since 1938-39 that three #Illini scored at least 20 points in the same contest.

Feb. 3, 2016 at Rutgers
Feb. 28, 2024 vs. Minnesota
Jan. 8, 2025 vs. Penn State
My source was a bit off, update.
Tonight's game marked the seventh time in program history. That three Illini scored at least 20 pts in the same contest.

Smith, Gray, Eddie 1980
Liberty, Anderson, Battle 1989
Anderson, Hamilton, Battle 1989
Kaufmann, Thomas, Smith 1990
Hill, JCL, Morgan 2016
TSJ, Domask, Hawkins 2024
Humrichous, White, Morez Tonight

Morez scored more pts and had more rebs today than James Brown has scored all season if anyone was wondering. Brown has 11 and 5 for the entire season.

Did they say this on broadcast? Was at game so don’t know if I missed something

I heard it as Katz’s assumption.

But, you never know. Like he said, KJ will be leaving so there will be at least one open spot at the guard position.

Point guard? Not only will we have Boswell and DGL coming back (I hope) Ty simply doesn't have the toolbox to play the point.

Devils advocate, are we better without KJ? Does he force too many shots?

Just think back of all the times he put the team on his back with his clutch shots in second halves of games while the rest of the team were shooting a combined 10-20% from three. KJ really helps when the team is struggling offensively. And when they're hitting 30%+ from three they can beat anyone due to their defense. So a #54 ranked Penn State should be very beatable even without KJ. He's more of a ceiling raiser for this team. He'll be most needed against the top20 teams.

I think the OP was employing sarcasm (for his sake, anyway)

Ben was, super. He is playing with great confidence, going to basket and 9 boards. Rez is a beast on the boards and showed he can handle the passes and put it in the basket. Tre is Tre-consistent and smooth. Dra and Will fought all night. It was about time the Illini paid the Lions back for those 4 agonizing losses. This team is putting it all together. Now go out and bury SC. and then on the Hoosier land and take them down.

Just keep in mind, Will was supposed to be playing this year in high school

There was plenty of talk in the off-season about how guys who re-class up tend to struggle especially with physicality. Will's first couple games over rode that initially but it's still true. The sign that he's a real one is the fact that he is still contributing even though his shot isn't falling.

It's also GOOD that he is being aggressive even if he isn't scoring. It's like a little brother going up against big brother, eventually they learn how to adapt and score anyway. Then when little brother gets big look out! Case in point Marcus Domask.

BU just mentioned that he wasn’t sure whether we missed any switches tonight. That really stood out to me too. We were 100% locked in and communicating.
I’d love for him to share what the final assessment is for this topic.

I fully agree with what was said earlier about this team looking like it’s a dream to coach. They really seem to address things soon after the game where the issue occurred. That has to be something the coaching staff enjoys when they are driving to the practice facility every day.
