@Indy Illini Fan Still sounding like ship has sailed with Morez?
Not sure why people are thinking this. I didn't get the impression at all that that was what was implied. Just that TA bowing out for the season meant there would be SOME concern on the part of Morez and his advisors. NOT that a move was imminent. Morez is playing really well for a Freshman and the arrow is definitely pointing up. He'd be foolish to leave in my opinion. If TA ends up elsewhere next year, 100% he'll be talking to Morez about joining him wherever he goes, but I think it's highly unlikely. TA won't be in line for a HC job next season after sitting out this year. And Morez going from a solid Illinois team where he's getting some great playing time and is a key player at a top tier school, vs going to a DePaul or other similar school, would not be in his best interest. I think we just need to let this discussion be dormant until after the Season and/or when TA signs with another program.

The “abrasions and cuts” on his right hand have been there for at least a month as I saw them in a picture that was from the Wisconsin game.

However, his left hand does look NOTICEABLY swollen……. so who knows what’s up with that.
Maybe he was at Pizza Hut?

I hope this is just Loyalty paranoia running its normal course.

Morez is only a freshman and is getting better and getting more attention every game. He will continue to benefit from OA's big man development program and become a featured player going forward. If he stays, I've no doubt he'll become an all-time fan favorite.

Aug. 46. I have been an avid Illini fan going back to the days of Chesty potato chips and the great Tom Schoendienst announcing Dave Downey [ 53 points against Indiana-1963 still stands], Bill Small, Bill Burwell and company. I remember when a kid 6-4 or 6-5 was starting at center. No 3 point line. Things have changed.

I sure hope KJ is ok. This team is starting to roll and we need him to lead this team. Illini 91- SC 70

Agree, don't think anything settled. BU going to have to recruit the whole squad again. But a happy and successful team points the arrow up for players staying.

BU playing Morez 20+ minutes and giving a framework of playing along a true NBA center type will also help. The AD and NIL donors will want to keep him as well.

Just to clear this up…one of the main “insiders” (Indy) mentioned something along the lines of Morez already considering his next move…

I will follow that up with - it’s clear that every single player has to be recruited constantly, and we all know recruiting is fluid.

It is about playing time plus ta leaving. Comment made by insiders - Johnson came to Illinois to start

Prediction - this one's a little closer than what I was originally thinking earlier this week, but still a reasonably comfortable win (and I'm assuming KJ sits today).

Illinois 91
USC 77 (because why not??)

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the info being posted about Morez possibly leaving the Illini program after this year.............If I had to give my opinion about who would be entering the portal for next season , Rez would be the LAST one I would be concerned about.....This is a young man who committed early in HS to the beloved and stayed committed to for 2 + years against , I'm sure , numerous approaches by other programs for his services.......

I guess I missed more than I thought in my 19 day absence from this board.........color me blindsided by the posts regarding him possibly leaving the Illini.......I really really am...............

No the statement was that damage had been done to the relationship because Morez came in with the expectation that he would be starting. Damage to a relationship can go a lot of different ways including being repaired over time.

My hope is Rez is realizing his foul trouble limits him even if he was starting. Subbing in keeps the attention off him while he works on minimizing fouls, and shooting from more than two feet from the basket. He is a fabulous contributor as a Frosh.
