Looking more and more like it’s Fran’s last go around at Iowa… DeVries seems to be at the top of the wish list. Could they lure him from WVU? Ben McCollum also mentioned as a possibility amongst the fan base…

At least to me, it seems like Iowa and West Virginia would have a lot of similarities and it would be a lateral to slightly upward move for DeVries to move to Iowa.

That said, I know he really liked his time at Drake and in the state. His kid was part of one of the best high school basketball teams the state of Iowa has ever seen. He obviously has a lot of connections in the state that remain from his time at Drake, and he's very well-liked and respected in this area. I think it would really come down to money to some degree (as in "if they can really give me a big raise, I'm gone") and "fit" that would revolve around a lot of factors besides money.

Put another way, I genuinely have no idea what his decision would be if Iowa came to him and said, "You're our choice and we can offer you as much or a little more money than West Virginia."

I would think Iowa and WVU would be parallel jobs. Might be easier to recruit to WVU, closer proximity to major population centers, maybe that's overblown as a factor. I would think DeVries would have better options than Iowa if he puts a couple of solid seasons together at WVU.

I normally don't like quoting myself, but I do want to add more that would probably add fuel to Darien DeVries being interested in Iowa no matter what.

He's from Aplington, Iowa and the brother of Jared DeVries (one of the NFL players who played at either Parkersburg or Aplington-Parkersburg under the late, legendary Ed Thomas). Side note - how I didn't put two and two together on this I'll never know, as I'm married to a Parkersburg native.

He played his collegiate basketball at Northern Iowa.

Jared DeVries played college football at Iowa, so there are clearly some familial ties there.

So I'll modify my thoughts some and say that if Iowa is interested in Darien DeVries, it seems pretty likely that he'll be really interested.

I think the Big Ten factor makes Iowa a better job. Just a lot more money to play with given the disparities between the media deals. Obviously not every Big Ten job is better than every ACC job, but in the Iowa v. WVU scenario I think the conference factor pushes Iowa over. Of course, you make a good point that DeVries may be aiming higher than that.

If it all does happen I would be shocked if Chester followed. Feel like he stays out east and there could be an opportunity at a mid major as HC
It is out of the question to think Chester would get considered for the HC job at West Virginia?

DeVries would not take Iowa ... Steve Forbes would crawl through glass for that job though ...

Cal might get the one and done experience himself at Arkansas ...

Sean Miller, Will Wade and Penny Hardaway ... For Miami ... If Penny leaves, then it'll be Sean or Wade in Memphis ...

Coaches on the HOT Seat: Mike Woodson, Mike Young, Red Autry, Ben Johnson, Hubert Davis, Matt McMahon, Porter Moser, Rodney Terry

Retirement Watch: Leonard Hamilton, Tom Izzo, Rick Barnes, Fran McCaffery, Thad Matta, and Mark Few

As for our Assistant Coach opening ... Once the carousel starts spinning, everything is subject to change ...

I have been told we likely may have more than one opening ... But assuming we only have one opening for now ...

I have been told there is 5 names to know ... Rod Clark, Mike Boynton, Preston Murphy, Stephen Gentry and Luke Yaklich ...

I thought Gentry went to Gonzaga for life. It would be great to get him back.
