:). I don't know how much D3 interest there is here, but the Illinois Wesleyan women are undefeated and ranked #4 in the country. They've beaten 3 ranked teams already, all on the road. The men's team was undefeated and anked #5 going into Wednesday night's game but they got upset by Carthage. We'll find out soon how much damage that did to their ranking.

I don't know if any of you have interest in D3 hoops, but I sure do. Last night the Illinois Wesleyan women's team defeated Trinity (TX) in overtime in the Trinity gym. The girls are now still undefeated and ranked 3/4 in the country. IWU's men's team is also ranked in the top 10. I'm a U of I alum but live in Bloomington so I've developed a passion for IWU basketball, men and women.

Don't know how much interest there is in this, but the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team is 13-0 and ranked #3 in the country. Meanwhile, the men's team is 11-2 and ranked #9. I have to wonder if this has happened before--both in the nation's top 10 simultaneously. It probably has.

The women's team is now #2 in the D3 hoops rankings. NYU is #1, but then they always are. With a student body of some 60,000, they probably don't even bother to recruit players; they can just have tryouts.

From the world of D3 for any who might be interested. Illinois Wesleyan's women's team is in a shooting slump. Proven three point shooters are consistently missing open looks. But still undefeated and still ranked #2. The men's team is also having a sensational season--after beating Carthage the other night, they are up to #7. Both in the top 10. Wow.

I don't know exactly where to put this, but from the world of D3 hoops, Illinois Wesleyan's women's team is 16-0 and ranked #2 in the nation. It's remarkable because they lack size. They start 5 guards. One of them, at 5-8, jumps center for the opening tipoff. LOL. The men's team is 14-2 and ranked #6. I feel confident no college in the country can match that combination.

IWU has moved up one spot to #5 in the country. Nick Roper, a talented guard, has been named to the Bevo Francis watch list for national player of the year in D3. Most people won't remember Bevo, butt I'm old enough to remember him. A 6-9 center in the '50s, he was pouring in over 50 ppg. The only way to get info back then was occasional newspaper articles. He played for Rio Grande College; based on the name, I thought that would be a school out west, but IIRC, it was in Ohio. It turned out Rio Grande was little more than a glorified JC. I really don't know why they would designate an award in his name. Meanwhile, IWU women's team is still undefeated at 16-0 and still ranked #2. NYU is always #1 and this year is no exception. They have more than 60,000 students which is about 60 times more than most D3 schools. NYU is the largest private school in the nation, based on student enrollment. I guess they get to play D3 because they don't give athletic scholarships.

Admire the dedication; not sure there's another thread where one poster has 64% of the posts! Go Wesleyan.

Wow, sorry for dominating the thread. I live in Bloomington and go to a lot of IWU games men and women. Other than that, I don't have anything special to say about D3 teams. I did mention NYU (see above) but just don't know enough about other teams to make an informed post. The CCIW on the women's side seems a bit down this year, but the Titans beat 4 ranked teams, all on the road, in early preconference tourneys.

No need for an apology, there was no snark intended in mine.

I appreciate a new and different subject, especially during the lull between FB season and spring camp. Years ago I was dating a cheerleader from Wesleyan and I'd go watch her cheer. Her frosh year was Sikma's senior year and every game was standing room only in their old gym. In today's world, he would have transferred up to UI, but it was fun to be able to get a third row seat to watch a future NBA player work his magic in a classic old gym. Speaking of classic old gyms, that would be a fun thread sometime.

How about Huff gym back in the day. To me, as a youngster, it seemed HUGE. In reality, it was a cramped dump with rickety wooden bleachers that were even warped with flaking paint in some areas.

I'd sign up for a "classic gyms" thread. I'll add these if and when we do this based on my experiences since I know my Quad City bretheren will add the most obvious choice for the QCs.

1) The Pit, North Scott (Eldridge IA) - Less than 1,500 capacity. You come into the gym at the top of the seating and walk down (hence the name). North Scott has objectively outgrown this gym, but it's a loud gym with great acoustics and a very intimate feel.

Kingman Gym, Ottawa - Had the privilege of broadcasting a Rock Island game at Ottawa a number of years ago. When I told a friend of mine who lived in the area I was going to call a game at Kingman, he said, "You'll love it." Boy, did I ever. The place just oozed history.

The D3 hoops thread has mysteriously disappeared, so I don't really know where to post this. Both the men's and women's teams are now ranked #3 in the nation. The women are 18-0 and the men 17-2. The women's team lacks size. They will run into trouble in the NCAA tourney when they run up against a time with a quality big (or two).

I'm replying to my own letter, lol. I forgot to say I was talking about the Illinois Wesleyan teams.

Once again, I'm not sure where to put this, but for anybody out there who cares about D3 hoops, both the men's and women's teams at Illinois Wesleyan are ranked #2 in the nation. It's truly remarkable. The women are 19-0 and the men are 18-2.

IWU women's team beat a very good Carroll team Wed. nite 81-75. They had to stage a major second half comeback to pull out the win. This game was touch and go. It gives the Titans a 20-0 record, 11-0 in the CCIW. The Titans have a superb junior guard named Ava Bardic who can (and does) score from all three levels while playing superb defense and rebounding well for a gal who only stands 5-6. She passed the 1,000 points scored (in only two seasons) in the Carroll gsme. She's definitely a keeper who will probably finish the season on the all-conference team with some All-American mention.
