not counting chickens yet, but it sure looks like we're not going to take some kids that we would have given our left nut for a few years ago

The upcoming choices is where my mind has been floating towards recently. Going from my post last week that this recruiting class is not only trending with higher quality to start but also earlier locked-in commitments.

Date of 4th Commitment
2026 class - January 15th
2025 - March 11th
2024 - June 11th
2023 - May 30th
2022 - April 18th

They never ran out of time to fill up the class before, so now there's a lot of remaining time to grab another 12-16 prospects. The upcoming choices: who's allowed to commit and prioritizing harder "gets" while risking the (more) sure things is going to be fascinating. I'm wondering if the staff is going to take another 3-4 guys that are ready commit and in their bigger pool to raise the floor considerably on the class compared to previous ones, but then start taking bigger risks.

For example, let's say the staff adds Owen Fors (IOL), Kenyon Alston (WR), Lesroy Tittle (LB), and Gene Riordan (IOL) in the next three weeks. To pause for a second, this is such an example of how far things have improved. Three of those four would be competing for headliners in previous classes and they have picked up a combined 11 P4 offers in the past three weeks, but they are likely to just be the middle-group of this upcoming class. Back to the discussion. That would put them at seven commitments, which means the class is already 35-45% full. The choice becomes to keep gobbling up the guys you like and want to come to press your luck. Do you then throw the entire weight of the staff after bigger fish like Jacob Alexander, Nasir Rankin, Cam Thomas, Zachary Washington, Kai Pritchard, JC Anderson, and Mack Sutter? There's also guys that would be huge adds in positions of need but it's unknown on their interest level with Illinois, like a McHale Blade.

Another question, Is Sitkowski kind of an Offensive Coordinator waiting in the wings in case Lunney moves on to a HC position in the future?

I keep reading the list of recruits visiting on the 26th and I am beginning to wonder if Bret has in mind a full blown scrimmage with just recruits. It looks like a full roster visiting. (is /s needed?)

Bret is working this program into something truly special.

#262 in entire country? We should be ecstatic if we get this kid. Wow!!

teammate of Beerman. establishing a beachhead in Cincy is really, really, very, very, really good

OSU can't take 40 kids per class. plus, they recruit nationwide. lotta VVG players in Ohio. if we can get ourselves into that next tier, we're golden

Amazing!! That would be a huge get “when” we get him. I won’t doubt 0440.

My guesstimate: 25% the season record, 25% the bowl win, 50% the T-bar and reaction. Kids must love a coach like Bret.
Fair assessment. NFL production is the biggest and when Coach did the T bar to the whole SC sideline… that was huge. A lot of these young men just wanna know their coach has their backs and when he did that not caring if he got penalized or charged at. I’m telling you that made some wavesss

two more starting IOL from ND in the transfer portal

both these guys are super seniors or close. my guess is they see this as a chance to make a little money in their final year , and they may not have been penciled in as the starter anymore. I wonder if we have any interest in one of them
