Just wondering- does a terrible performance at home while we are hosting recruits turn them off from our program or at least have a noticeable impact on their decision of whether to join the Illini?

High school recruiting just feels so pointless to follow now. Even if we get a commitment, there’s a good chance the kid never makes it onto campus and if he makes it onto campus, there’s a good chance he doesn’t play more than one season. Transfers are likely to have a bigger impact on the program each year.

On top of that, our staff does such a good job of replacing misses with quality guys that I don’t feel the need to get overly invested into any one player.

Cliff Alexander, for example, felt like he would make or break the recruiting class. I don’t feel that way about anyone now.

Besides Wagler, do we have any other h.s. recruits? His highlights seem to suggest a slightly shorter version of Riley.

Sadly, with the current state of college Basketball, no guarantee he'll be playing for the Illini after 1 season, much less multiple

Saw Douglas a couple times in h.s. A superb player for the Illini. His sr. year in h.s., he was rated one of the top five players in the country by Street and Smith. Back in those days that magazine was the best source we had for ranking preps.

I’d be curious if this trend ends up affecting home game advantages across the board. Are one year players, which is becoming the norm for many teams, going to have the same appreciation for their homecourt and use that advantage to feed off the fans. Vice versa as well, is the average fan going to cheer with as much enthusiasm with players they barely recognize?
