Singleton would be a home run obviously- while Ohio State is the heavy favorite because they usually get every Ohio kid they want- they are also favorites for the #1 CB in the ‘26 class

If I’m Singleton, do I really want to go to a school to play second fiddle to another CB?
and sit a year or two minimum. or maybe figure that out his freshman season and go thru the
portaL.

Really impressed with what Schiano is doing at Rutgers. Had the 34th best class last year with a lot of 400-700th ranked prospects, now has two 2026 commits ranked in the top-225. He's also pumping out wins the last two years while being ravaged with injuries and under the spell of Kaliakmanis.

Most of the P4 coaches are spending more money on retaining transfers instead of recruiting them. It's possible that Schiano is zagging and spending more on preps last year and this year to raise his program's floor.

Multiple CB can be on the field at one time.

I’m aware- but maybe you are not aware of the Ohio State roster? Two of their backup CB’s who couldn’t even get on the field last year were
2024 5 star #1 CB in the country - Aaron Scott redshirted then barely played this year
2025 5 star #1 CB in the country #5 overall - Devin Sanchez
Plus they have one of their staring CB’s coming back

So if you are Singleton and you are not even the top CB in your class going there and you are behind all the other top CB’s in the previous classes- when are you going to play?

It also points out how absolutely ridiculous Ohio State’s recruiting is

What they've built in the cornerback market is astonishing. Doing this in the pre-NIL era would have been bonkers, doing it now seems impossible.

Also.......they've had an underwhelming cornerback development based on NFL production. They have three active NFL cornerbacks and two of them are first round busts (Eli Apple + Jeff Okudah), the third is just a rotational guy. I'm not dismissing them having three guys, but the NFL production does not match up with the talent they're afforded.

This is why it's so important to actually win the bowl games. BB admits it, winning the bowl game gave Illinois credibility. It's not just some exhibition game, it is important. The floodgates are open now.
Agree, let’s not forget how valuable the press (good and bad) from the shenanigans between the coaches was. It certainly extended the buzz and rewatching of the game. The amount of hot takes in print and tv has to be rewarding to the program.
