We played well enough to have a 23 point lead with 5 minutes left to go in the game.
And if that is the same lead you had at halftime (plus or minus a point) then by definition you played your opponent even for most of the second half. Not great.

Lots of people are using the 35/5 thing so maybe I’m nuts. But I saw near perfection on both ends in the first half, followed by a slight drop off in O and a big drop off in D in the second half. There’s a reason Brad was yelling at Hamer.

And then as we’ve both said the last 5 minutes were almost unfathomable.

No worries I didn't think you were, I just realized my point was probably not too clear in my original post.
Missing the Dawgs at times this season. Morez and DGL show it consistently, and I saw more dawg in KJ right from the tip today.

KB has the dawg, but it seems to get the zoomies sometimes? Squirrel!

He’s just yelling about something that went wrong on the court. Essentially coaching about a messed up switch, our scouting error or missed screen or what could’ve/should’ve been done etc.
My B-i-L played up to collegiate level. He told me once he and his teammates would jockey for poistion far down the bench from their coach.

We average about 30 a game so that’s where the 9+ came from.
Plus I would assume statistics would show the percentage of Offensive Rebounds is greater with 3pt shots than 2 pt shots. In addition to 50% efficiency increase, the team gets more opportunities. Yes/No?

My wife usually asks from the other room "Are you talking to me?"

He's right, we are great fans and I'm sure they are great students, but they are not doing their job and Coach is too busy to notice arms crossed and phones out during live play.

Being on phones should be banned in the student section. It automatically takes away engagement with the game (and life for that matter). Hard to tell college students today I'm sure, but I'm also sure you can find students happy to do it for those seats!

Byte for byte, this might be the zaniest post-game thread I’ve seen after a dominant win — without one of your key players — against a team that owns wins over Maryland, Indiana and Illinois and took Michigan to overtime in Ann Arbor.
The outcome was never in doubt after halftime. Yes, the Illini played the final few minutes like the game was over. It was.

See, you must have missed the part where we actually lost despite scoring more points than Northwestern. You see, there is a recent rule change that says only the last 5 minutes matter.

Somebody please explain this time narrative to me. NU got 52 points or whatever in the second half. While I certainly agree that the last five minutes were the worst of it, saying we played well for 35 is a big exaggeration.
Never change loyalty message board!! We win a game or lose a game. You’re never satisfied lol. I love this team and love this program. I’ve lived through a lot of bad years and cheered through some of the best years. But I will say some of your opinions are laughable. I’ll leave it at that. And if you’re offended or upset about my post. Maybe you’re the problem. 😁

I agree. I’ve never seen a group of fans more disgruntled with a top 10 KenPom team in a rebuilding year that replaced 96.5% of it’s minutes from the year before.

From 2007-2020, you know how many top 10 KenPom teams we had in those 14 seasons? 0.

Now, we’re currently on our 3rd in 5 seasons. These are the good old days. Enjoy em.

This here. Championship teams don’t let up and don’t ever relax. Bad habits have a way of showing up at the wrong time. Coach K was one of the best with this. He had all the talent in the world but he taught them to never let your opponent think they had a chance….ever!
Northwestern never had a chance

So, I re-watched the final four minutes again with a critical eye. We didn’t really do anything wrong until the 1:51 mark when Boswell took an early three in the shot clock. But we got the loose ball rebound out of bounds, and KJ left the game at 1:46 with a 14 point lead. We then ran a little clock, Davis missed a three and Morez got the rebound and foul at 1:31. He made one of two free throws for a 15 point lead.

Essentially, KJ was done for the day with a 15 point lead and a minute and a half left. Nothing embarrassing at this point since the TV timeout.

Northwestern came down and hit a three at 1:20 (I think it was Davis who lost his man) then Illinois came down, ran 21 seconds off the clock before Boswell shot and missed a three at :57. But Davis got a hand on the rebound and Boswell corralled it at :51. At this point we had a 12 point lead and the ball with less than a minute to go. It should have been dagger time.

Buuuut… Boswell threw a long pass that lead to an easy transition basket for Berry at :47 then Riley just gifted NW a basket at :46 and suddenly it’s an eight point game. KJ was then brought back in. DGL was then fouled and missed two free throws at :44, but again we got the loose ball rebound. From there we were able to seal it, although not without some apprehension.

So really, our only absolutely horrible stretch of basketball was from :51 to :44. Seven seconds that made the remainder of a game seem like an eternity. I would’ve like to have seen us work the ball inside after draining the clock each time instead of taking threes, but we got the rebound each time so, theoretically it shouldn’t have mattered.

One thing… perhaps this will silence the crowd that been complaining about Underwood playing his starters so late in a blowout.

Paraphrasing Jordan Taylor: “If Kendall Gill played under this coach he might have been a top 5 pick too”…as he defended his statement that this team is better than the Flying Illini
