I think Brad is stubborn and refuses to shake up the staff …

No secret I’ve been calling for changes for a couple years …

Hamer stinks … Tyler should’ve got his coaching start elsewhere … You don’t get to start your coaching career at Illinois … Not how it works … Gotta prove it …

Brad sticking with Tyler and giving him and Hamer responsibility has been part of the reason we’ve lost good assistants to other jobs …
Our very own Brian Ferentz

FighterofNightman had a good comment on the game thread about these guys not caring if they lose. And I think he’s right.

These guys are pros. Most of them make 100,000+ a year just in cash to play. And the college regular season is like the NBA regular season. Some days you show up. Other days you don’t.

We don’t have any competitive killers on this team. It’s just mercenaries being well paid on a one year contract.

And I also think that has played a role in Underwood coddling these guys and finessing them in the media. He’s like an NBA coach. Can’t be a hard !!! anymore with the players bc they are paid big money and can leave at any time.

I miss college basketball the way it used to be. I can’t get into what is basically minor league basketball at this point

Do we need to revisit how this team almost lost to Washington at full strength? That gift is the only thing keeping us from being funnier than Indiana right now.

We could get a lot healthier and better, but it will be practically impossible for Rez to play his game and also keep us competitive in the B18 with no backup.

It's nice that Tomi didn't break his ankle in November, because we had a few fun weeks in there with him. But this won't work.. can't work without a mathematical coup by our shooting.
This is too true.

The thing is I think this team IS playing hard. They wouldn't be crushing teams on the glass otherwise and they generally give effort defensively. The problem is mental mistake and execution. Turnovers, quick forced shots, breakdowns on defense. I don't know what the answer is but I think part of it is just being too sped up at times.
I’m not trying to say they never hustle or anything, but some of these turnovers are just due to casual and lazy passes, as well as TOTAL mental lapses. I think that speaks to poor effort.

If Brad would just own it … I wouldn’t be as upset honestly …

Screwed up in recruiting … Should’ve fired Hamer a while ago … Gave Tyler too much responsibility …

Just own it …
Exactly my thoughts.

The guy that put the roster together and signed off on, if not set up, the basic philosophy on offense and defense is the issue here: Brad Underwood. The continuing farce with Hamer and Tyler has got to be ended by April.

The problem with blowing the games we've blown is that we still have to play at OSU, MSU at home, the Badgers at the Kohl Center, at Michigan, Purdue at home as well as Duke. That's A LOT of really difficult games. Realistically, we can maybe win half of these games, which doesn't leave our overall resume looking great. Best case scenario, we win 4 out of 6 which maybe puts us as a 5 seed. Realistically we are looking at a 6-8 seed at this point. Unless we coach and play more second tier teams like we did tonight which would put us into scary territory. Bottom line is that you cannot eff around against the Nebraskas and Northwesterns of the world and expect to be anywhere near a top 4 seed in the tournament. There are too many other difficult games in our league.

It’s UNREAL … And also why donors are gonna get sick and tired of the NIL era …

If I was donating that kind of money … Me and Brad would be having a 1 on 1 sit down …

I pick the players … You coach … Because his evaluation on Ben … Straight 💩

Were there a lot of high profile schools who wanted him?

I agree with whoever said time to reset my expectations. I don't think the season is lost but I don't think we will surpass last year's if the current trajectory continues. However I do feel underwood always has had an atrocious loss where it gets him energized and we see a nice run arise from it. Am I being too hopeful
We are bad right now.

Last two things from me:

1. I'll start with a positive. There is one player who I trust to bring it every single second he's on the court. One player who I'm certain cares about winning. One player who leads. DGL. Keep this dude on our team next year at all costs!

2. The last time we went 2-4 over a 6 game stretch was in March of 2023. That team, we were told, was built for March.

I can't imagine Ben was paid that much. It's not like he was a top 10 or top 75 portal guy. I'm fairly confident that Riley got more money

I'd be shocked if DGL isn't thinking "transfer" on the way home if his coach didn't have the faith for him to be in at the end of regulation. I would not blame him if he left. This was egregiously bad coaching. Brad makes $4 million a year and has to answer for this obvious mistake.

You genuinely wouldn’t believe how much.
Probably why we have been seeing what we are seeing lately. Just because the guy makes a lot, doesn't mean he has to be on the floor more than 12 minutes. Totally ridiculous. All a product of the great NIL.
