I'm not on Twitter anymore...I assume this (the "whining") is in reference to some tweets from BB?
You can listen to the whining here. It’s really quite amusing. This is the same guy who was dumbfounded before the Citrus Bowl that Illinois was even allowed on the same field as South Carolina.

Rhule saying that Nebraska will likely cancel their spring game going forward due to concerns with players being poached in transfer portal.
interesting .

I kinda see his point knowing that some teams are playing “dirty” and contacting players first before they even enter the portal .

What's the connection between poaching and the spring game?
portal window re-opens in late April - early May to allow players to move based primarily on knowledge then of where they fit in their current teams depth chart .

the “trouble” lies with a few programs being proactive about finding those players before they officially even enter the portal .

i get that but still feels like shaky logic. meaning, there are limited # of players for each position. even without a spring game, they're going to have a sense if where theyre falling. other teams are still going to reach out, regardless of whether a doring game is played or not

if anything, i could see this backfiring within the first year if someone coming out of spring ball does or does not have a chance to get PT they think theyre entitled too and they think it was impacted by not having a spring game. which will probably be more true for younger players?

in any event, i immediately thought of this scene which made me laugh

Beamer was totally outclassed in this game. His father had his moments but nothing like Shane. Frankly he acts like a small child. Kind of reminds me of the coach of the UCONN Huskies a little. Sickening.

i’m a normal fan - not an insider

I’ve always maintained that our program should be the highest ( or tied for it ) ceiling of the tier 2 schools in our league . there is no built in reason for Wiscy or Iowa (or even Nebraska now ) to be ahead of us . In fact , there are built in reasons for us to be so .

@Indy Illini Fan @illini0440 @LvilleILL1

It’s a different game today with NIL and the portal, but how would you compare our current ceiling as a program vs BB’s tenure at Wisconsin?
That’s always been kind of the unspoken goal I think. And I’d say we’re there with a chance to maybe take it a small step farther. 8-11 wins a year is the goal for the foreseeable future.

Rhule saying that Nebraska will likely cancel their spring game going forward due to concerns with players being poached in transfer portal.

The quiet part is athletes are supposed to have free access to practice tape when they enter the portal so they can show interested coaches. The spring game shouldn't show anything that isn't already happening in practice, unless Rhule and his staff aren't providing athletes to that tape or purposely being slow to provide access.......

The answer is, and will always be, and is willfully ignored: Just make the athletes an employee. You can collectively bargain for a set term of employment and end poaching. Coaches don't want to do it because it erodes their positional bargaining power and could put their salaries on a regressed trajectory. So what you see is choices like this that make no business sense. Organizations are choosing to reduce their reach and fan engagement, a lifeblood to sport, because of corrupt labor choices they created.

this we know : the current rules and practices are not sustainable. and not for long

I don't get it. Is he saying that coaches will tamper with his players based on... spring game film? Or is he saying he won't be able to field a freaking team? Cuz... ohhh boy
he’s concerned about poaching from guys watching the game live & film

he has plenty of players - they did okay in the portal
