He was a walk on
Oh man I love Tyler Underwood (truly don't think he deserves the crap he gets on this board), but let's not act like it's a big deal he was a walk on when the University is paying his daddy top 10 money. I assume he wasn't slinging burgers at McDonald's to cover tuition 😂

That’s what I was getting at. Person asked if he was on scholarship and no he wasn’t cause he can afford not to be lol. People complaining him about thought he was an offensive genius just 12 months ago. Haha

I mostly don't like this because I think May will do a good job at IU, but for Michigan to have found a good replacement for Juwan, only to have him bounce to coach another team in the conference after just one season is objectively hilarious.
Is anyone else having a “hail to the victors” ear worm when reading this?

I think he probably will end up being a good coach someday, does seem like a very nice kid albeit my interactions with him have been public and short. I don't even have a problem with him being on staff and getting his start here, but I do not believe he should be the main offensive coach.. He needs to be working under someone like Gentry or Boynton. Maybe Geoff gets the EIU job and he can take Tyler and Hammer with him

Shaka does better when it’s just basketball … At Texas or Illinois for example … You have to be more than just a ball coach … Most of these coaches don’t enjoy that … Some tolerate it … Some love it … But the majority hate it …
In your opinion (or anyone else’s) how well suited is Brad to the bright lights and is he comfortable becoming the next Henson here or will he want to go get the next Blue (not IU) job that comes open, if they wanted him?

I can answer the easy part of this question - there will never be another Coach Henson here, look no further than the name on the court.

He has never even coached high school or junior high ball. It's crazy that he has the position he has. There are multiple Loyalty contributors that have so much more experience than Tyler or Zach. What's most wild is who Underwood is listening to in game. Can we please stop the group think?

He’s a former HC … He’s a better X&O coach than Tyler or Hamer or Kwa …

Orlando … Mike … And Geoff can handle the recruiting and limited X&O …

Those other 2 assistant spots … Those are your X&O assistants …

See Chris Beard staff at Ole Miss … McCasland at Texas Tech …

They’ve figured out how to utilize the 5 man staff …

When the ruling came down I said this is the time to capitalize and hire someone with elite connections recruiting wise or elite X&O skills … And we promoted Tyler and Hamer … Unacceptable …
Boynton would have been the home run Assistant hire IMO- he’s coached some really good defenses , was an assistant under Brad obviously and was a top notch recruiter at OSU getting top 10 classes there. But as I recall we didn’t have an opening when he was available.

I don’t know if Brad would make a run at him in the offseason and/or of Whitman would pay up the dollars given it would take an OA like deal I’m sure, but to replace Hamer with Boynton would be such a huge upgrade in every facet.

Zach’s been with vandy, the Lakers and the fever. But come on let’s not act like those 2 have the final say in everything. It’s a group effort with OA, Geoff and Brad

In my opinion, that’s the issue. Need a veteran seasoned X&O coach to whisper in Brad’s (OA and GA if warranted) ear and say “don’t listen to those young pups, how about this <logical option> , <adjustment> or <why it won’t work>.”

So is this post in support of Hamer & TU to continue to be in charge of O & D moving forward? As long as GA, OA, and BU are in agreement, you are cool with it? I fell like this is NOT what you've been championing for quite some time now....

We are the bright lights, man. 😎 Are we Duke or Kentucky?? No, of course not … but neither is Indiana, and they’re no different from us these days. They’d pay up to keep a coach they want to keep, and they’d EXPECT that the allure of their program plus equal money and the avoided headache of moving jobs would be enough to keep anyone there if Duke came calling. And we should think that way, too.

Regardless there are better options out there that would have more knowledge and experience for the X and o’s for offense and defense. If you don’t believe that then you’re kidding yourself.
