I'll go with 26.

Ole Miss, UCLA, Michigan leap us. Did Clemson do enough to leap us after suffering a Quad 3 loss? Creighton could leap us with their win against Marquette but they still have 3 quad 2 losses. This is a big week though. A lot of the teams in the 10-25 are incredibly close to each other and there could be a ton of shifting. We're in the position where we are probably unranked but still have a better resume than several of the teams that will be ranked this week.

Probably what we deserve. Needless to say, win two this week and we will have a hefty jump. Interesting silver lining I have noticed? Fingers crossed, but traditionally we have responded very well under Underwood when a result pushes us out of the top 25...

2024-25
L 87-100 vs. Alabama in Birmingham (ILL #25)
----> W 90-77 vs. #19 Arkansas in Kansas City (ILL NR)

L 66-70 in OT at Northwestern (ILL #19)
----> W 86-80 vs. #20 Wisconsin (ILL NR)

2023-24
L 64-71 vs. #4 Marquette (ILL #23)
----> W 76-58 at Rutgers (ILL NR then #24 for RU game)

2022-23
L 71-93 vs. Missouri in St. Louis (ILL #16)
----> L 60-73 at Northwestern (ILL NR)
----> W 79-69 vs. #14 Wisconsin (ILL NR)

2021-22
L 51-71 vs. Cincinnati in Kansas City (ILL #14)
----> W 82-72 vs. Notre Dame (ILL NR)
----> W 86-51 vs. Rutgers (ILL NR)

2019-20
L 57-72 at Rutgers (ILL #22)
----> W 62-56 at #9 Penn State (ILL NR)

Let's hope this team has PLENTY of motivation to prove it's back on track and it is still "for real" with two massive home wins this week.

EDIT: I hadn't even looked at the poll yet ... how in the literal **** is UCLA not ranked?! They're 18-6, and they've won 7 straight games by an average margin of 13 points, including 3 wins vs. top 20 teams! I was literally shocked to see them left out, lol.

deserved. hopefully this gives the team something to fight for, too comfortable earlier this season

Deserved to drop out.

Have 6 potential Quad 1A match ups in the next 7 games, so there is a huge opportunity to improve (or weaken) ranking and tournament seeding over the next month.

Which Illini team will show up? 🤷‍♂️

We got work to do…2 wins this week would be a good start!

Missed by 1…not asking you for weekly lottery numbers this week.
I would not have predicted in December that they'd turn out to be one of our more impressive wins, haha. For those interested in this every week, here is our record vs. the top 25 reframed based on today's rankings:

RESULTS
L 87-100 vs. #2 Alabama (Birmingham, AL)
L 64-66 vs. #5 Tennessee
L 78-80 at #11 Michigan State

W 86-80 vs. #16 Wisconsin
W 80-77 vs. #21 Missouri
(St. Louis, MO)
L 71-90 v. #25 Maryland

YET TO PLAY
Saturday 2/15 - vs. #11 Michigan State
Tuesday 2/18 - at #16 Wisconsin
Saturday 2/22 - vs. #3 Duke (New York, NY)
Sunday 3/2 - at #20 Michigan
Friday 3/7 - vs. #7 Purdue

So for what seems like the billionth time this season, I'll say that we STILL have so many opportunities in front of us. 5 of our remaining 7 games are against the current top 25, and another one (UCLA) is vs. the top team receiving votes, or unofficial #26.

Respect and all, but I never understood this, lol. Like, I obviously care more about winning, the NET Rankings, the conference standings (though to a lesser extent this year), BTT seeding, etc .... but I have plenty of "caring energy" in the arsenal, and I can use at least a little on recognizing the benefits of being ranked in the AP Poll. :ROFLMAO:

With that said, this is about as close of an occurrence I can get to "not wanting to be ranked." I'm not sure how much an AP ranking even registers with our team, but these guys need a chip on their shoulders and a killer mentality this week!
