This loss is incredibly frustrating but the emotional swing of this board is just borderline bipolar. If we had beaten MSU tonight, people would’ve been over the moon and we would’ve celebrated the team beating 2 good teams in a row, including a top 15 ranked team, 3 wins in a row, and the fact that the team would get ranked again and appears to be on track to a good seeding come March.

If that were true, then losing to MSU should not spell the end of the world and trigger the meltdown we are witnessing right now. It’s undoubtedly disappointing but a lot of the reactions here are disproportional and simply unwarranted.

Brad needs to change a lot of things, including in this offseason. But it’s insane to be calling his hot seat right now and the take that Brad got lucky with Elite 8 last year cuz TSJ carried him is just pure revisionism. Did you all forget that Brad has been the winningest coach in BIG these past 5 seasons next to Painter? 5 whole seasons.

This is what ticks me off the most !!!!!!!!

I want Brad to own this 💩

Admit Tyler and Hamer aren’t getting it done …

Admit he screwed up in recruiting Ben, Tre, Booth …

Admit he didn’t make adjustments !!!!!

Just own it !!!!!!!!
This is the insidious thing with nepotism. You already can't publicly drag an assistant through the mud if you want other assistants to ever work for you, but if it's your kid, you have a really hard time demoting him or firing him, to boot, because you don't want to damage his career prospects.

He never should have hired Tyler for anything more than a graduate assistant. He should have used his connections to get Tyler a job in a different program.

the offense was just a mess in the 2nd half. There were MULTIPLE possessions where the BALL wasn't even dribbled inside the arc not once - all the action on the outside. Not even a freaking attempt to look inside. So frustrating to watch.

I know BU hates zone but at least show it when the guards are killing ys and the guards can't shoot the 3. Woodson did that and MSU shot 38% and got beat at home by Indiana. We could not get a stop and yet BU didn't even try the zone one time! Indiana and Woodson did and I bet other coaches will too. At least if the D is struggling like ours was stopping them getting in the lane
Brad has this idea of forcing teams into taking 'tough twos'

The thing is someone should tell him that a wide open midrange jumper is not a "tough two"
Even I was knocking down those shots in high school.

Apparently the new standard for excellence of being an Illinois coach is being better than John Groce though.

Isn't that what you want a team to shoot?
Izzo was running plays to get those shots. It isn't a bad shot in the flow of the offensive on a MSU team that is a poor 3 point shooting team. This is a old crafty coach maximizing his players vs analytics backed boy geniuses scheming for a some sort of fantasy team, not the players they put on the court tonight....

I’m a decently positive fan on this site, and I very freely admit I have a buzz and I’m letting the emotions of this game get to me … but as someone who’s never even KIND OF lost faith in Brad, I no longer support him. Sorry. This was an inexcusable loss due to nothing more than hubris and stubbornness, and I have zero faith that Brad (A) understands that or (B) would have the humility to change.

Thanks for everything, and I mean that fully. Throw the warche$t at someone else if we’re going to be shackled to fixed lineups and game plans that we settled on in August due to NIL commitments.
I'm like you Fighter. I've tried to stay positive on Brad even when the clues were there because there are a number of things he's done well, but like I said after a loss a week or two ago, this loss was by choice, not because we were outplayed by a better team.

Brad will leave on his own or retire. Whitman is not going to think about firing Brad right now. I'd pay attention to the Texas job.
A game like this would certainly move Brad down on Texas (or UNC’s) list. Maybe Brad could replace the guy that leaves his position to go to one of those schools?

Absolutely infuriating!!!

#1 - Complete jerk response on initial question about playing bench…compared MSU playing 11 vs 6. Said it wasn’t a factor and “no” when asked if he’d explain why he didn’t play other guys more.

#2 - He can’t understand why guys keep chucking 3s. Hmmmm…let me see. Maybe because you’ve said ALL SEASON LONG that you’re gonna have them keep chucking 3s.

That was a terrible press conference and a terrible look.

He stands by his coaches until he can’t … There are things he can’t stand behind anymore … Maybe not Brad specifically but there are other things that will need to change
Exactly. Otherwise the deep pocket donors will stop ponying out the big dollars to the basketball program for NIL, etc. It is still mind boggling to me that Tyler and Hamer have such key roles on this staff. I expect donors will demand that both are gone (or at least relegated from their assistant coach positions). Too much money spent on the program to have them both in such key coaching roles.

I think this too. I like Brad. I think he has done a fantastic job of lifting a badly damaged program up towards where it could be.

But there is reason to believe, going back several years, that he might not be the one to lift the program to the highest level it could reach. Time to see if the program can move on, if there is a way.

My God! I forgot about CB! Jesus, what a total fail by BU last off season. What a disaster for Ty. BU is relying on an NAIA dude for ANY experience and/or leadership on this team. Really feel sorry in the end for Ben, because as I've said all year, he should be a 10-20 minute a night guy depending on his shot making and matchups. But here he is, the guy getting the most minutes because we have 1 post player, who happens to be a freshman. What a frustrating season. Another year wasted waiting on a team to win it all. Time's running out for us all.

It's not Brad. He just sometimes recruits kids who already have character.
