Doesn't seem like he will change the philosophy of jacking 3's. The 3's just didn't go in. Tre is sick!

It’s just so crazy, was playing like our best player for nearly a month and then poof, either detrimental or might as well not be on the team. Hard to stomach after was really warming up to what he was advertised as early in the year.
Whatever happened must be bad. Potential transfers will see a player who started 22 games and then rode the bench for weeks. Who wants to come play in that system?

agree, and this “he saved us from obscurity” talk, while true, doesn’t mean much if after 8 years we have one good, actual run. (also nursing a buzz so don’t want to get too tangential, but when we made 0 adjustments against Loyola, I was worried. when he insisted on going at clingan, I knew we’d gone as far as we ever would with him.)

A lot of what is going on now in the program is about next year, already. That stinks. But it was one of the likely outcomes of complete roster overhaul. I am very interested in how a course is steered toward preserving as strong a returning roster as possible for next year. And then not striking out in the portal as happened this year.

Go watch the John groce era and tell me this season sucks. We are going to win 20 games AGAIN. Did we lose in a bad way tonight? Absolutely. Should we fire the guy that has brought us back to relevancy hell no.
Like others have said…I’ll always be grateful for what Brad has done for this program.

I get why you are defensive of him. I have very often been as well. He is likable and a very good coach in many ways. He has been superb at building this thing back up. But many of his strengths are also his weaknesses…determination/stubborness.
(that classic cliche)

But…Why do so many people who apparently like to think they are being positive…think along the lines of (what IMO) is negative?…and assume we definitely get another Groce or Late-Era Weber? Why assume that sh*tty past would be the future? Is that just Illini Inferiority Complex talking? Remember: we also had Henson, Krueger, and Self and Hungry Brad in the past. Isn’t that just as likely we might get that too? Whitman is not
Guenther…nor is he Mike Thomas…he $upports his coaches…but also ain’t gonna let us fail either….see Lovie Smith.

What if Brad leaves voluntarily. His agent is a maniac. He puts out feelers all the time…what then? It could happen at anytime…do we just reconcile ourselves that we’re gonna be bad again?? Seems rather reductive and defeatist to me.

looking at the schedule, would love to know where win #19 comes from. btt? So could be 18-14 or 19-13!

At this point, I think Brad is simply an above average coach who was good enough to lift our program out of the dumpster and then had his profile raised when NIL became a thing and our boosters could more directly and legitimately get involved. But I am also convinced that he has essentially hit his ceiling unless he has a come to Jesus moment over his coaching staff and decision-making.
I think he’s an outstanding recruiter.

I thought he had an outstanding eye for talent. He still has some gems but clearly some misses this year.

I still think he’s overall good at developing an individual to meet his potential.

But I’ve always thought he was a poor in game coach and I’ve never loved his offensive scheme. Too much hero ball. . And his defense when he first got here was brutal. Over aggressive going for steals etc.

But now the defense isn’t on him I guess bc he has an inexperienced coaches defensive coordinator

This year’s roster construction was so bad. Absolutely no depth inside. And Tre White was one of the first recruits you took. He looked very good. And now he’s a healthy scratch.

So many issues.

Great kid, just not a lottery pick. IMO

This team has no floor leader. It shouldn't take Brad to huddle everyone up and tell them to take it to the rim? KJ should have been living at the line in the second half. He should be smart and aware enough to know that.

If there are problems and Brad doesn’t agree with it than that’s where you let him leave for another school…you don’t offer him more money to stay…just let him go…😉

I'd prefer Josh Whitman had a conversation with Brad about making the same mistake, over and over and over. Mistakes per Brad. This is the same exact thing he said about Dra LAST year. Time's about up ...

We should have found a way to keep Coleman and Dainja instead of the two we replaced them with. And Morez is not one of the two I’m talking about. He’s a warrior.

I get what you're saying but at this point, what AD is thinking: "I want what I saw tonight at my university."??????????

This team is what it is -- a team that relies heavily on three freshmen and one sophomore who, for all intents and purposes, is a freshman. Anyone who's watched college basketball for any serious length of time knows that experienced teams win at a higher clip than inexperienced ones -- even the ultra talented teams. Even Dee and Deron had an up-and-down freshman season and ended up getting punked by Notre Dame in the tournament.

Of course, it's a different era where these ultra talented freshmen most likely aren't going to stick around, and that's what makes this promising season turning sour so disappointing. But those who are calling for Brad to be fired are being ridiculous. He and Painter are the winningest coaches in the B1G over the last six seasons. Be careful what you wish for.
